Campgrounds and RV parks near Clinton, WA

The Mukilteo-Clinton ferry itself is part of the trip: RVs board on a first-come, first-served basis and roll off directly onto State Route 525, the island's main north-south road. From the terminal it is a short drive to Langley, a walkable waterfront town with galleries and cafes, and to beaches along Possession Sound. Whidbey Island's state parks give day-use options within easy reach. South Whidbey State Park has trails through Douglas fir, western red cedar, and big leaf maple, though campers should note the campground has been closed and the park is currently day-use only. Fort Casey State Park, further north, sits on Admiralty Inlet with a historic lighthouse and views of Puget Sound, and Deception Pass at the island's far north end is the region's headline park for hiking, kayaking, and beachcombing.

The prime RV window on Whidbey Island runs from late spring through early fall. Everett, the nearest mainland station, has a distinct dry season centered on July and August, with July averaging the most sunshine at about 10 hours per day. Daytime highs in July and August typically sit in the low seventies Fahrenheit, comfortable for hiking, kayaking, and beach days without the heat found east of the Cascades. Shoulder-season trips in May, June, and September usually deliver mild days and lighter ferry lines, but showers are common. November is the wettest month, with Everett receiving about 149 mm of precipitation over roughly 21 rainy days, and this pattern holds through the winter. Winter camping is possible at year-round private parks around Clinton, but many state park campgrounds and some private resorts run reduced or seasonal operations. Summer Friday afternoons and long weekends bring the longest ferry waits, which can back up well beyond the Mukilteo terminal holding lanes.

Expect a mix of small-town pace and ferry logistics. Clinton itself is compact: a few restaurants, a market, and the ferry dock. Cell service is generally reliable near town but can thin out along wooded park roads farther up the island. Most private RV parks in the area offer full hookups; state park sites tend to be partial hookup or standard, with dump stations on-site or nearby. RV drivers should plan ferry arrivals with time to spare, especially on summer Fridays and Sunday evenings when southbound traffic peaks. The Mukilteo-Clinton ferry can hold between 124 and 144 vehicles depending on which vessel is operating, and larger rigs load out of order for safe placement on deck. Wildlife is common: bald eagles, great blue herons, harbor seals along the shore, and black-tailed deer through campgrounds at dawn and dusk.
