Campgrounds and RV parks near Cosmopolis, WA

Water activities dominate the area. The Chehalis River runs through Cosmopolis and Montesano, with boat launches at Friends Landing RV Park and a 1.7-mile paved trail circling Lake Quigg. Lake Sylvia State Park supports non-motorized boating, kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming, fishing, picnicking and wildlife viewing, with seasonal kayak and paddleboard rentals. Grays Harbor and Willapa Bay add saltwater options: clam digging, surf fishing, and birdwatching in the Grays Harbor and Willapa national wildlife refuges. Bayshore RV Park & Guest Suites sits on Willapa Bay with private beach access and is centrally located to Westport, Grayland, Raymond, and South Bend. In town, visitors can use the Highlands Golf Course, the river boat launch, and short trails along Mill Creek. Aberdeen, Hoquiam, and Westport supply museums, marinas, and supply stops within a short drive.

The Cosmopolis area has a wet coastal climate with a short, mild summer. July and August are the driest and warmest months, with average daytime highs in the low 70s Fahrenheit and very little rain. This is peak season for the Washington coast, and reservable sites at popular parks fill well in advance. Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with cool, damp days and rivers that run high. The forested grounds at Lake Sylvia State Park hold moisture year-round, so muddy trails are common outside of summer. Salmon and steelhead runs draw anglers to the Chehalis and Willapa systems through the fall, and sturgeon fishing on the Chehalis River near Friends Landing is open year-round. Winter is wet, with November and January the wettest months and short daylight hours. Lake Sylvia's campground stays open year-round, with reservations available April 1 through September 30 and first-come, first-served sites from November 1 to March 31. Friends Landing closes for the camping season from mid-November to mid-March, while most private RV parks in the area operate year-round with reduced amenities.

Sites range from forested state-park loops to open gravel pads at private parks. Lake Sylvia State Park has 31 standard campsites, 4 walk-in sites, 2 hiker/biker sites, 3 partial-hookup sites, and one group camp, with a sewer dump station, restrooms, and showers. Maximum site length is 30 feet with limited availability, so larger rigs should aim for private parks instead. Friends Landing has 18 RV sites with water and electrical hookups, 10 tent sites with water available, a 1.7-mile paved trail around Lake Quigg, and boat launches on both the Chehalis River and Lake Quigg. Restrooms, showers, a dump station, and free Wi-Fi are on site. Bayshore RV Park & Guest Suites offers 37 full-hookup sites on Willapa Bay, 11 of them premier bay-view sites with fire pits, plus 400 feet of private beach. Cell coverage is generally fair near towns and spottier in the forest. Rain gear and quick-dry layers are essential year-round.
