Campgrounds and RV parks near Elma, WA

Elma sits in Grays Harbor County at the junction of US-12 and SR-8, roughly midway between Olympia and the Washington coast. That location makes it a practical base for RV travelers heading to the Olympic Peninsula, the Chehalis and Satsop river valleys, or the beaches at Ocean Shores and Westport. Highway access is direct and the terrain is low-elevation temperate rainforest, so sites are workable for most rigs much of the year. Campground options within a short drive cover the full range. Elma RV Park offers hookups close to town services on US-12. Schafer State Park sits along the East Fork Satsop River with utility sites and a dump station, and Lake Sylvia State Park is a quiet 233-acre camping park with 15,000 feet of freshwater shoreline in a wooded area halfway between Olympia and the Pacific shore. Porter Creek Campground in Capitol State Forest is a 16-site campground near Porter Creek surrounded by large Douglas-fir trees, and Friends Landing RV Park sits on the Chehalis River near Montesano. Expect mossy Douglas-fir and cedar forest, river-adjacent sites, and cool nights even in summer. Cell service is spotty at the forested parks, so download maps and reservations before leaving town.

Washington State Parks sites, including Schafer State Park and Lake Sylvia State Park, are booked through the state's reservation system at washington.goingtocamp.com. Reservations can be booked up to 9 months in advance, and prime summer weekends at both parks book out early. A Discover Pass is required for vehicle parking at Washington state parks. Porter Creek Campground in Capitol State Forest is first-come, first-served, campers must register upon arrival, and stays are capped at 7 days within any 365-day period. A Discover Pass covers parking at DNR sites. Friends Landing RV Park and Elma RV Park are booked directly with the operators. For holiday weekends and July through August, reserve state park sites as soon as the nine-month window opens, and have a backup private park in mind.
