Campgrounds near Fern Prairie
Fern Prairie is a small census-designated place in southern Clark County, Washington, roughly 16 miles east of downtown Vancouver and about 4 miles north of Camas. Its location on the north side of the Columbia River puts RV travelers within easy reach of both the Portland metro area across the river in Oregon and the forested foothills of the southern Cascades.
The surrounding area offers a mix of full-hookup RV parks and forested public campgrounds. Sandy Riverfront RV Resort and Portland Fairview RV Park sit on the Oregon side near the Sandy and Columbia rivers, while Vancouver Mall RV Park provides an urban base in Vancouver itself. For a more rustic stay, Battle Ground Lake State Park lies in the Cascade foothills northeast of Fern Prairie, and Rock Creek Horse Camp is a Department of Natural Resources site inside the Yacolt Burn State Forest.
The combination of paved-site RV parks near the interstates and forest campgrounds within a short drive makes the area workable for families, first-time renters, and travelers touring the Columbia River Gorge.
Things to do near Fern Prairie
The nearest major recreation draw is Battle Ground Lake State Park. The park sits in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and offers hiking, biking and equestrian trails, with a spring-fed volcanic crater lake that draws swimmers, paddlers and anglers. The lake has one boat ramp for non-motorized boats only, though electric motors are permitted.
Riders and hikers can base out of Rock Creek Horse Camp inside the Yacolt Burn State Forest. The Tarbell Trail runs from near the campground into the surrounding hills and connects to other multi-use routes in the forest. Yacolt Burn State Forest is open year-round for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
Day trips to the Columbia River Gorge, Mount St. Helens, and downtown Portland are all reachable within roughly an hour by RV or tow vehicle.

Summer is the prime RV season around Fern Prairie. July through September offers the warmest, driest weather in the Vancouver area, with July and August being the driest months of the year. Weekends fill quickly at state parks, so reservations should be secured well ahead.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with cooler temperatures and more rain. March is one of the rainiest months, while May is noticeably drier and often sunny, with temperatures climbing from the mid-50s in March to the mid-60s by May. Fall trips through late September and October can be quiet and scenic, though showers become steadier as November approaches.
Winter camping is possible but wet. Battle Ground Lake State Park campground is open year-round, and Rock Creek Horse Camp and its trails also stay open through the winter, though the trails can be muddy and slick during the rainy months. Some motorized recreation areas inside Yacolt Burn close seasonally, so winter visitors focused on ORV riding should check DNR alerts before arrival.

Had a very good time on this RV! Recommend to anyone!

I am so happy that we chose to rent from Andrey. We went on a 13 day trip with our 3 small kids, when we picked the RV up it was IMMACULATE. So clean, smelled amazing, and fully stocked with everything we could have needed. Even down to camp chairs for our kids. We had zero issues with it on our long trip, communication with the host was amazing, and I could not recommend him enough. Best experience ever!

How to book near Fern Prairie
Washington state park campsites, cabins, and group areas at Battle Ground Lake State Park use the state's central reservation system. Sites and cabins can be reserved online through the Washington State Parks reservation portal, or by phone at 888-226-7688. Reservations can be booked up to nine months in advance. Because there are only six sites with water and electric, reserving well ahead is recommended. A Discover Pass is required for day-use vehicle access at Washington state parks and DNR lands.
Rock Creek Horse Camp works differently. There are no reservations; the campground is first come, first served, and dogs are allowed on leash. A Discover Pass is required.
Private RV parks such as Sandy Riverfront RV Resort, Portland Fairview RV Park, and Vancouver Mall RV Park take direct online or phone reservations and typically fill fastest on summer weekends and around Portland-area events.
What to expect near Fern Prairie
Expect a mix of hookup and primitive experiences within a short drive. Battle Ground Lake State Park has 46 single-family campsites, including 6 sites with water and electric, 25 standard sites, and 15 primitive walk-to tent sites. Sites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs up to 35 feet. Amenities include potable drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection and a dump station.
Rock Creek Horse Camp is more basic. Campsites come with picnic tables and fire rings, a group shelter and vault toilets are on site, and the campground accommodates trailers up to 27 feet in length. There are no electrical hookups, and cell service is spotty in the state forest, so download maps before arrival.
Private RV parks near Vancouver and Portland typically offer paved pads, full hookups, laundry, and easy interstate access, but sites can be tight and closer together than at state parks.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fern%20Prairie%2C%20WashingtonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Fern Prairie, Washington?
Good news: a regular Washington driver's license (or any valid US or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Fern Prairie. Washington does not require a commercial driver's license or special RV endorsement for any motorhome or trailer you'll find on the RVezy platform. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID inside the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit from your local auto association before your trip. Most first-time renters are surprised at how simple the paperwork really is.

Yes, every RV rental in Fern Prairie booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Lewis and Clark Highway with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, so you can match it to your comfort zone. Booking an RV rental in Fern Prairie is lower risk than most people think. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking rather than individual hosts, and the policy is managed directly by RVezy instead of being displayed on each listing, which keeps things consistent. If plans change due to weather, wildfire smoke in the Gorge, a family emergency, or another situation, RVezy support can walk you through your options, and host cancellations are covered with refunds or credits. Pro tip: book early to get the best Camas-area rigs, then review the cancellation policy details in the Help Center before you confirm.

Battle Ground Lake State Park, about 25 minutes north, also allows leashed pets in campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees, and bring a long lead so your pup can relax outside the RV at camp.
clark.wa.gov/public-works/lacamas-regional-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway in Fern Prairie?
Yes, RV delivery in Fern Prairie is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Many Fern Prairie and Camas hosts will tow or drive the rig straight to a local campground (think Battle Ground Lake State Park, Paradise Point State Park, or Beacon Rock State Park), set up the awning, level the unit, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Some will even deliver to your driveway for a backyard staycation. Filter by Delivery when you search, and message the host with your destination so they can quote an exact fee.

Pro tip: if your route includes lots of Columbia River Gorge sightseeing, unlimited mileage usually pays for itself by the third day.
rvezy.com/Where are the best campgrounds near Fern Prairie, WA?
You're spoiled for choice on RV camping in Fern Prairie. Within a 30-minute drive you'll find Battle Ground Lake State Park (forested sites around a spring-fed lake), Paradise Point State Park (right off I-5, great for quick stops), Beacon Rock State Park in the Columbia River Gorge (jaw-dropping cliffs and waterfalls), and Columbia River RV Park in Vancouver (full hookups with river views). For a more rustic vibe, Sand Island Campground near Washougal is boat-in only and gorgeously quiet. Pro tip: book Beacon Rock and Battle Ground Lake at least 8 to 10 weeks ahead in summer, since these are among the most-loved state park sites in southwest Washington.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/beacon-rock-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to take a Fern Prairie RV trip?

Spring (April to early June) is lush, green, and quieter at campgrounds, with highs in the 60s. Fall brings stunning Gorge colors through October with highs in the 60s and crisp 40s overnight. Winter rentals are absolutely doable too: temperatures rarely drop far below freezing here, though it's wet. Pro tip: aim for a weekday departure in late August and you'll get warm rivers, dry trails, and far less competition for waterfront sites.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Fern Prairie?
You'll be just fine, and Fern Prairie is actually one of the friendlier places to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering hookups, slide-outs, the propane system, dumping, and driving tips, and you can text them all trip long. The roads around Fern Prairie are wide, mostly flat, and easy to practice on. For your first time renting an RV, choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet), and plan an easy first night close by at Paradise Point or Columbia River RV Park. Pro tip: ask your host for a quick parking lesson before you leave their property.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/commercial-vehicles/trucker-resources/oversize-overweight-vehiclesWhat happens if something breaks down during my Fern Prairie RV trip?
You're never alone on the road. Every RV rental in Fern Prairie comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also just a text away for quick questions like how to relight the water heater or reset the inverter. RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip, with help in both English and French. If you're deep in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest with limited cell signal, drive back toward Carson or Stevenson, where coverage returns. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate before you leave so any roadside call goes quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Fern Prairie RV rental into Oregon or up to Canada?
Yes, crossing into Oregon is one of the best parts of a Fern Prairie RV trip, since the Glenn Jackson Bridge is about 15 minutes away and opens up the entire Mount Hood and Oregon Coast loop. Cross-state travel within the US is covered by your RVezy protection plan. Trips into Canada (think Vancouver, BC or the Okanagan) are often allowed, but message the host directly to confirm and review insurance details before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a classic Fern Prairie loop runs east through the Columbia River Gorge, south on Mount Hood's Highway 35, and back via Hood River.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for an RV road trip from Fern Prairie is easier than you'd think. Class C motorhomes generally get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class B campervans hit 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg while towing). Regular gas in the Camas and Vancouver area tends to run noticeably cheaper than across the river in Oregon, so always top off on the Washington side before heading to Portland or the Gorge. For a 4-night, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan about $180 to $250 in fuel. Pro tip: GasBuddy and the Costco in east Vancouver are your friends.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Fern Prairie?
Plan ahead and you'll lock in the best spots. Washington State Parks (Battle Ground Lake, Paradise Point, Beacon Rock) open reservations on a 9-month rolling window through the Washington State Parks reservation system, and prime summer weekends fill within minutes of opening. For National Forest sites in the Gifford Pinchot, use Recreation.gov and book 4 to 6 months out. Private parks like Columbia River RV Park can often be snagged 2 to 4 weeks out, even in July. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 9 months before your target Friday at 7 a.m. Pacific to grab Beacon Rock waterfront sites the moment they open.
parks.wa.gov/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Fern Prairie?
Driving an RV around Fern Prairie is refreshingly low-stress. The local roads (NE 232nd Ave, Highway 14, and SR 500) are wide and well-maintained, and you can reach I-205 in about 15 minutes without ever touching downtown Portland. Watch for two things: the Highway 14 stretch through the Columbia River Gorge has a few short tunnels and winding curves with stunning views, and winter brings occasional ice on shaded sections near Lacamas Lake. Summer Gorge winds can push high-profile rigs around, so grip the wheel near Hood River. Pro tip: avoid the I-5 Bridge into Portland during weekday rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.).
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time-travel/travel-alertsWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds around Fern Prairie?
Most campgrounds near Fern Prairie make RV life easy. Full-hookup parks like Columbia River RV Park and 99 RV Park in Vancouver offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi at every site. Washington State Parks (Battle Ground Lake, Paradise Point) provide electric and water with shared dump stations near the exit, plus clean restrooms with hot showers. National Forest sites in the Gifford Pinchot are usually dry camping (no hookups), so fill your fresh water tank before leaving. For dumping between trips, the Camas Meadows area and the Pilot Travel Center in Troutdale both have public RV dump stations. Pro tip: arrive with a 25-foot sewer hose and a 90-degree elbow, since some Washington sites are spaced generously.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/paradise-point-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Fern Prairie?
Fern Prairie RV rentals come surprisingly well-equipped for a comfortable Pacific Northwest trip. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers sleep 4 to 8 people across queen beds, bunks, and convertible dinettes, with a full kitchen (3-burner stove, fridge, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bath with hot shower, roof air conditioning, and a furnace for those cool Gorge evenings. Many include a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV with HDMI inputs, and some offer onboard Wi-Fi or starlink. Seatbelted seats determine how many people can legally travel down the road, so always match passenger count to belts. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and message the host to confirm bedding and kitchen gear are included.
dol.wa.gov/vehicles-and-boats/vehicle-registration/registering-vehicles/registering-motor-home-or-recreational-vehicleWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Fern Prairie rental?
Hosts in the Fern Prairie and Camas area offer a smart menu of add-ons that can transform your trip. Common extras include linen and kitchen packages ($25 to $75), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour over included hours), portable BBQs, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, and even kayak or paddleboard add-ons (handy with Lacamas Lake right down the road). Pickup is usually at the host's home in Fern Prairie, Camas, or Washougal, but most also offer delivery within 25 to 50 miles, including to Battle Ground Lake or Beacon Rock. Mileage policies are listed clearly on every listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a generator package upfront to avoid surprises.
cityofcamas.us/parksrecHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Fern Prairie?
Payment for your RV rental in Fern Prairie is handled securely inside the RVezy platform, never in cash with the host. You'll pay the rental total, taxes, and any add-ons by credit card at checkout. A refundable security deposit is separate from the booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup. Assuming the RV comes back in the same shape it left, that hold is released after the trip ends. To keep things smooth, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff and snap photos of the exterior, interior, and odometer. Pro tip: keep receipts for any fuel or propane fill-ups in case there's ever a question.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great first road trip from Fern Prairie for a family?
A family RV trip from Fern Prairie practically plans itself. A classic 4 to 5 night loop: night one at Battle Ground Lake State Park (swimming, paddleboats, easy hikes, 20 minutes away), nights two and three at Beacon Rock State Park in the Columbia River Gorge (Multnomah Falls and the Bonneville Fish Hatchery are right there, 35 miles east), and a final night at Paradise Point State Park along the East Fork Lewis River. Total driving is under 120 miles, perfect for a first-time family RV trip. Pro tip: add a day-stop at the Pendleton Woolen Mill store in Washougal and ice cream in downtown Camas on the drive home.
