Campgrounds and RV parks near Hobart, WA

Hiking dominates the area. Cougar, Squak, and Tiger Mountains, known collectively as the Issaquah Alps, together provide thousands of acres of connected public forest with a dense network of trails. Poo Poo Point on the west side of Tiger Mountain is a popular launching point for paragliding and hang gliding, and the climb up makes a classic day hike from any Hobart-area basecamp. On the water, the Green River runs past Kanaskat-Palmer with whitewater, fishing, and quiet shoreline access. Boat and raft launching is by hand only, river rafting and kayaking down the Green River Gorge is for expert-level enthusiasts only, and shoreline activities include nature appreciation, trout fishing and picnicking. Families also use the location as a staging point for Snoqualmie Falls, Lake Sammamish State Park, and day trips toward Mount Rainier.

The Puget Sound foothills have a mild maritime climate with a clear wet season and a dry summer. It has cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers, and the climate is sometimes characterized as a modified Mediterranean climate because it is cooler and wetter than a true Mediterranean climate, but shares the characteristic dry summer and the associated reliance upon cooler-season precipitation. Late June through early September is the prime RV window: trails are dry, rivers are safer for paddling, and most campground loops are fully open. Tiger Mountain's lower elevation supports hiking year-round, though June through September offer the best conditions. Reservation pressure peaks on summer weekends, so book early for July and August. Fall and winter remain usable for RVs with hookups, but expect persistent rain. The cool-season storm track delivers the great majority of Seattle's annual precipitation between October and March, with the wettest months, November, December, and January, accounting for roughly half of the city's annual rainfall by volume. Heavy rain can also close state-park loops temporarily due to flooding.

Expect forested, often shaded sites with cool nights even in summer. At Kanaskat-Palmer, the campground has 50 campsites located on the Green River in King County, with 19 sites with electric hookups for trailers and RVs up to 50 feet, 25 tent-only campsites, 6 yurts, and one group campsite that can accommodate up to 80 people. Campground amenities include a dump station, 2 restrooms with flush toilets, and 6 showers, and the campground is open year round, weather permitting, with reservations available during the summer. Noise can be a factor at the state park. The local fire station uses a siren to summon volunteer firefighters for duty, the siren may be activated at any hour of the day or night, and BNSF railway tracks near the park mean campers may hear train noise. Cell coverage in the foothills is patchy and grocery and fuel stops are limited near Kanaskat-Palmer, while the private parks closer to Issaquah and Maple Valley offer easier access to stores and restaurants.
