Campgrounds near Hoquiam, Washington
Hoquiam sits at the head of Grays Harbor on Washington's outer coast, at the junction of US-101 and State Route 109. The town works well as an RV base for the southwest Olympic Peninsula and the Pacific beaches at Ocean Shores and Westport, with grocery, fuel, and propane in town.
Camping options range from in-town riverside RV parks to state-park beach campgrounds within a short drive. Hoquiam River RV Park is open year-round with 75 full-hookup sites along the Hoquiam River, offering 30 and 50 amp service, on-site propane, and a dump station about a mile north of downtown. American Sunset RV & Tent Resort and American Sunset RV Resort are located in Westport, closer to the beach and the marina.
For state-park camping, Twin Harbors State Park has 115 standard campsites, 42 full-hookup sites, four hiker/biker sites, one group camp, and a dump station, though hookup sites are small and close together and bigger rigs may have trouble with site size. Friends Landing RV Park, operated by the Port of Grays Harbor outside Montesano, adds a quieter riverside option about 25 minutes east.
Things to do around Hoquiam
The Pacific beaches are the main draw. Twin Harbors is a reliable base for beach walking, surf and pier fishing, boating charters, and whale watching out of nearby Westport. Razor clam digging is a seasonal tradition on the open coast when the state opens digs; check current Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife openings before you go.
Wildlife viewing is strong right at the edge of town. Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge, on the Hoquiam waterfront, is a major stop on the Pacific Flyway and peaks with shorebird migration in late April and early May.
Friends Landing sits along the Chehalis River and Lake Quigg, with a 1.7-mile paved trail circling the lake for biking, walking, or accessible use. The Quinault Rainforest and the southern edge of Olympic National Park are roughly an hour north for old-growth day trips.

Summer is the practical camping season. It delivers the calmest windows and longest days, with highs in the mid to upper 60s Fahrenheit, nights in the 40s and low 50s, and frequent coastal breezes. July and August are the driest and busiest months, and reservable state-park sites for summer weekends and holidays are typically claimed months ahead.
Shoulder seasons trade crowds for weather risk. Spring brings shorebird migration and clamming windows, but rain is still frequent. Fall stays mild into October before storms arrive, and salmon runs draw anglers to the Chehalis and Humptulips systems.
Fall and winter bring Pacific storms and heavy fog, and the coast stays cool year-round. Winter camping is possible: Hoquiam River RV Park is open all year, and at Twin Harbors State Park, camping runs on a first-come, first-served basis from September 15 through April 1, though expect wet weather and short daylight.
How to book campgrounds near Hoquiam
Private parks in and around Hoquiam take direct reservations by phone or through their websites. Hoquiam River RV Park, American Sunset RV & Tent Resort, and American Sunset RV Resort all book direct and are the closest options if state-park availability is gone.
Twin Harbors State Park is reserved through the Washington State Parks system at washington.goingtocamp.com. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance of the first date of your trip, and campsite reservations can be made online until 2 p.m. on your arrival date. Many desirable waterfront, full-hookup, and premium sites are booked almost immediately for summer weekends and holidays, so set a calendar reminder for the day your window opens.
During the off season, which ends May 14, all camping at state parks is first come, first served. Friends Landing is a Port of Grays Harbor facility with its own booking process; contact the park directly.
What to expect on the ground
Hoquiam is a working coastal town, not a resort. Expect a mix of highway noise near US-101, easy access to full-service grocery and hardware, and cool damp air even in summer. Pack layers, rain shells, and something warm for evenings.
Site quality varies. In-town RV parks are level with full hookups; state-park loops on the coast are more wooded but tightly spaced. Visitors consistently praise easy access to a wide sandy Pacific beach, dunes and short forest trails, clean restrooms and showers, and helpful staff, while common complaints are tightly spaced RV hookups, variable privacy and noise, and occasional heavy bugs.
Cell coverage in town is solid; it drops off quickly on backroads toward the Olympic foothills. Fill propane and top up groceries in Hoquiam or Aberdeen before heading up the coast to smaller communities.
