Campgrounds near Longview Heights
Longview Heights sits in Cowlitz County in southwest Washington, roughly midway between Seattle and Portland along the Interstate 5 corridor. The area works as a practical base for RV travelers heading to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, with the highway access, groceries, and fuel of the Longview-Kelso urban area on one side and forested camping on the other.
RV options range from full-service private resorts to a well-run state park. Toutle River RV Resort offers full-hookup RV and tent sites in Castle Rock, with resort-style amenities and access to the Toutle River, making it a common stop for families exploring Mount St. Helens. Brookhollow RV Park, Paradise Cove Resort and RV Park, and the Longview North / Mount St Helens KOA Journey provide additional private-park options closer to town.
Seaquest State Park is a 475-acre, year-round camping park set among fir trees near Mount St. Helens, with forested loops, hiking trails, and a pedestrian tunnel connecting the park to the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center at Silver Lake. Together, these campgrounds cover most RV travel styles, from hookups and pools to quieter forest sites.
Things to do near Longview Heights
The main draw is Mount St. Helens. The Mount St. Helens Visitor Center at Silver Lake features interactive exhibits focused on the May 1980 eruption and the ongoing recovery, and it sits directly across State Route 504 from Seaquest State Park. The Hummocks Trail is a lowland loop through the blast zone with close-up views of young forest, wildflowers, and reshaped terrain.
Closer to camp, Silver Lake is a shallow lake formed when a prior eruption dammed Silver Creek. A short boardwalk over the Silver Lake wetland connects the park entrance to lily pads, cattails, and views of the volcano. Bird watching, kayaking, and fishing are common, and the lake holds bass, bluegill, perch, and stocked trout.
On the east side of the monument, Windy Ridge and Forest Road 99 are typically open in summer for a different angle on the crater.

The Longview Heights area follows a classic Pacific Northwest pattern of wet, mild winters and warm, dry summers. January is the rainiest month, with rain falling on nearly 19 days and totaling around 99 mm, and the area averages roughly 175 rainfall days a year. Summer is the drier window and the peak booking season for both private RV parks and state park sites.
Access to Mount St. Helens is limited by road work. Johnston Ridge Observatory has been unreachable since a May 2023 landslide that blocked both lanes of State Route 504 near milepost 49, with a closure gate just past the Hummocks Trailhead at milepost 45.2. WSDOT reconstruction of the Spirit Lake Outlet Bridge is expected to be complete in fall 2026, and Johnston Ridge itself is not expected to reopen to the public until spring 2027.
Other monument attractions remain open seasonally. The Science and Learning Center at Coldwater is accessible, along with the Silver Lake Visitor Center, Coldwater Lake Recreation Area, and viewpoints such as Elk Rock. The upper stretch of Highway 504 is closed to the public in winter regardless of the landslide.

Had a very good time on this RV! Recommend to anyone!
Kirill V. - Jan 2026
I am so happy that we chose to rent from Andrey. We went on a 13 day trip with our 3 small kids, when we picked the RV up it was IMMACULATE. So clean, smelled amazing, and fully stocked with everything we could have needed. Even down to camp chairs for our kids. We had zero issues with it on our long trip, communication with the host was amazing, and I could not recommend him enough. Best experience ever!

I would rate my experience with Paige as a 10/10. Good communication and everything was as promised. The trailer was clean, well maintained, and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed. We did experience an unexpected problem with the trailer during our trip, but Paige handled it perfectly to ensure our trip continued seamlessly without interruption and without inconveniencing my wife and I. I definitely recommend working with Paige.

Paige was so well prepared and helpful in our renting experience with her. The RV was fantastic for our needs.

How to book a campground
Private parks and state parks use different reservation systems, so plan the trip around whichever site type is the priority. Seaquest State Park is reservable through the Washington State Parks system at washington.goingtocamp.com or by calling 888-226-7688, with campsites bookable up to nine months in advance for arrival dates from May 15 through September 15. Same-day reservations are accepted until 2 p.m. on the arrival date. A Discover Pass is required for vehicle day use.
Private resorts book directly. Toutle River RV Resort can be reached at (360) 274-8373. Brookhollow RV Park, Paradise Cove Resort and RV Park, and the Longview North / Mount St Helens KOA Journey all take reservations through their own websites or phone lines, with KOA also using its national booking platform. For summer weekends and holiday weeks, sites at all four locations tend to fill weeks or months ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of I-5 convenience and forested backcountry within a short drive. Toutle River RV Resort sits at the confluence of the Toutle and Cowlitz Rivers and is one of the largest RV resorts in the Northwest, with 306 full-hookup sites, many over 6,000 square feet and up to 100 feet long. The resort is between I-5 and active train tracks, so some road and train noise is normal.
Seaquest State Park has 52 standard campsites, 18 partial-hookup sites, 15 full-hookup sites, three hiker/biker sites, and one dump station, with a maximum site length of 50 feet and limited availability at that length. The north, south, and mid-camp loops are in forest settings, while full-hookup sites are only in the T-loop.
Bring rain gear outside of midsummer, layers for cool evenings, and expect limited cell coverage inside the monument boundary.
