The Centennial Trail is the headline attraction. The paved corridor runs roughly 30 miles from Snohomish north to the Skagit County line, with the Machias Trailhead serving as a popular access point for cyclists and families with strollers. Fishing, paddling, and swimming are easy at nearby Lake Stevens, Flowing Lake, and Lake Roesiger. Day trips reach in every direction. Recreational fire burn bans in Snohomish County Parks occur during the dry season, usually late summer or early fall, so check current restrictions before lighting a campfire. Winter camping is possible but limited. Many private RV parks stay open year-round with reduced occupancy, while Evergreen State Fair Park and Whitehorse campsites are closed, with limited operations at Flowing Lake and Wenberg in winter from November through February. Snow is uncommon at valley elevations but possible, and Cascade passes can require chains.

Private parks around Machias generally offer paved or gravel pads, full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, Wi-Fi, laundry, and dump stations. Sites tend to be closer together than at state or county campgrounds, with mature trees and landscaped buffers between rigs. Pets are usually welcome on leash. County and state campgrounds run more rustic. Quiet hours at Snohomish County Parks are 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and running generators during quiet hours is not allowed. Snohomish County Parks does not offer long-term camping, and with the exception of the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, the maximum stay in any park is 14 days in a 30-day period.
