Campgrounds and RV parks near Maple Heights-Lake Desire, WA

Lake Desire itself has a public boat launch and fishing dock on its north side, with access managed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Lake Sawyer, a short drive south, is one of the region's larger natural lakes and is known for bass fishing, boating, and swimming. Lake Sammamish State Park, near Issaquah Village RV Park and Vasa Park Resort, offers sandy beaches, paddle sports, and picnic areas. Hikers can reach the Issaquah Alps, including Tiger, Squak, and Cougar Mountains, within a short drive, and Snoqualmie Falls and Snoqualmie Pass are an easy drive east on I-90. Family travelers often pair campground days with Seattle attractions: Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, the Museum of Flight, Woodland Park Zoo, and the Seattle Aquarium are all within roughly thirty to forty-five minutes.

The greater Seattle area has a temperate, Mediterranean-style climate with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. July and August are the driest and warmest months, with average highs in the mid-70s Fahrenheit, while November typically averages more rainfall than any other US city of its size, and winter is the wettest season at the official Sea-Tac climate station. Summer is peak RV season. Sites at lake-adjacent parks like Lake Sawyer RV Resort and Vasa Park Resort fill quickly for weekends from late June through Labor Day, especially around the Seafair festival in July and early August. Reservations several weeks ahead are strongly recommended at developed campgrounds in the area. Spring and fall offer cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and easier weekday availability, with a tradeoff of more rain and shorter daylight. Winter camping is possible because most parks in the area, including Cran Mar RV Park, Lake Sawyer RV Resort, Issaquah Village RV Park, and Trailer Inns RV Park, stay open year-round, though some amenities may be reduced and snow is occasionally possible at low elevation, although heavy snow is rare.

Most nearby parks offer full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer. Cran Mar RV Park, near Lake Sawyer just east of Covington, is a small, quiet park on ten acres in a residential neighborhood, with 50/30/20 amp service and city water, garbage, and septic included. Lake Sawyer RV Resort accommodates larger rigs with lakeside sites, though reviewers note that pull-through spaces can be tight. Issaquah Village RV Park sits within walking distance of downtown Issaquah and a bike path, with easy I-90 access. Trailer Inns RV Park in Bellevue is an urban park east of Seattle off I-90, with indoor pool, sauna, laundry, and a mix of back-in and pull-through sites that suit travelers who want a city base rather than a wooded retreat. Vasa Park Resort offers a lakefront setting on Lake Sammamish with beach access.
