Campgrounds near Mercer Island
Mercer Island sits in the middle of Lake Washington, connected to Seattle and Bellevue by the I-90 floating bridges. The island itself has no commercial campgrounds, so RV travelers base out of parks in the surrounding Eastside and Puget Sound corridor and drive in for day trips. Most options are within 15 to 30 minutes of the island by car.
The closest full-hookup options cluster along I-90 in Bellevue and Issaquah. Trailer Inns RV Park is an urban RV park in Bellevue, just east of Seattle off I-90, within walking distance of groceries. Vasa Park Resort offers RV camping on Lake Sammamish minutes from Bellevue, with short-term online booking and monthly long-term sites available. Issaquah Village RV Park sits close to downtown Issaquah with a walking path to the historic area, offering pull-through full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service and room for slide-outs.
Farther out, Lake Pleasant RV Park sits in Bothell, north of Lake Washington, a position that lets visitors skip bridge traffic when driving to Seattle. For a public-lands, saltwater option, Saltwater State Park lies south on Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma.
Things to do near Mercer Island
Mercer Island itself is ringed by parks and swim beaches, with Luther Burbank Park on the north end offering waterfront picnic areas, a fishing pier, and off-leash dog space. From I-90, downtown Seattle attractions like Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the waterfront are a short drive west, while Bellevue's shopping district and Bellevue Botanical Garden sit just to the east.
On Lake Sammamish, Vasa Park Resort's waterfront features sandy beaches, swimming areas, kayak and paddleboard rentals, picnic shelters, and open green spaces. Guests at Issaquah Village can also enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, and paddling, with Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park and Tiger Mountain trailheads nearby. Snoqualmie Falls and the Cascade foothills are about 30 minutes east on I-90.

Summer is the practical season for RV travel around Mercer Island. July and August bring warm, dry weather and the region's driest stretch, and this is when Lake Washington swim beaches, Lake Sammamish boat launches, and Puget Sound day-use areas are busiest. Sites at private parks fill weeks ahead for July 4 and Seafair weekends, so early booking is important.
Shoulder seasons work well for anyone with flexibility. Spring brings blossoms and greener foothill hikes, though rain is frequent through May. Fall stays mild into October, with quieter campgrounds and salmon returning to local creeks. McSorley Creek at Saltwater State Park sees seasonal salmon spawning.
Winter camping is limited but possible at year-round private RV parks in Bellevue, Issaquah, and Bothell. Many state park campgrounds close or reduce services in the cold months. When operational, Saltwater's campground runs from mid-May through mid-September, but the campground has been closed to camping while the park works through planning tied to flooding and erosion impacts, so verify status before planning a stay.

Booking a site near Mercer Island
Private RV parks in the area use a mix of direct booking and third-party platforms. Vasa Park Resort manages reservations through its own site, and Issaquah Village RV Park requires cancellation by noon two days before check-in, or the first night is charged. Trailer Inns and Lake Pleasant take reservations by phone or through their websites; call ahead for big-rig sites and 50-amp availability.
For state parks, Washington uses a central reservation system at washington.goingtocamp.com, with sites bookable up to nine months in advance. A Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to Washington state parks for day use. Summer weekends across the Seattle metro book out quickly, so aim to reserve two to three months ahead for July and August stays.
What to expect
RV parks near Mercer Island are compact and urban rather than remote. Expect close-spaced sites, freeway noise at the I-90 and I-405 parks, and easy access to grocery stores, laundromats, and restaurants. Issaquah Village RV Park offers full or partial hookup sites that accommodate slide-outs, with WiFi, a dump station, and a pet-friendly policy. Trailer Inns provides full hookup sites for rigs up to about 45 feet with cable TV.
Puget Sound state park campgrounds are more rustic. Saltwater State Park does not offer electric, water, or sewage hookups, but potable water spigots and a sanitary dump station are available when the campground is operating. The park sits in the flight path of Sea-Tac Airport, and during certain hours planes land or take off overhead every 15 minutes, so light sleepers should plan accordingly.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Mercer Island, WA
How much does an RV rental in Mercer Island cost?
RV rental in Mercer Island is more affordable than many Seattle metro travelers expect. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $140 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes range from $250 to $400 per night. Shoulder season (April to early June and mid-September to October) is the smartest way to find a cheap RV rental Mercer Island travelers love, since rates drop noticeably outside the July and August peak. Many Eastside hosts also offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so stretching a 5-night trip to 7 nights can lower your total.

The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort at checkout. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Mercer Island RV trip plans change?
Booking an RV rental in Mercer Island is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy. Guests get a full money-back grace period right after booking. After that window, your refund amount depends on how close you are to your trip start date. If a host cancels, you receive a full refund or travel credit. Full details are in your RVezy account and the Help Center, so you can lock in your dates with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Mercer Island RV trip?
Absolutely, and you'll be in great company on Mercer Island, where Luther Burbank Park has a popular off-leash dog area right on Lake Washington. To find a pet-friendly RV rental Mercer Island hosts list, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search on RVezy. Many hosts welcome dogs with a small cleaning fee, and you can message them before booking to confirm size or breed details. Nearby, dogs are welcome on leash at Tiger Mountain State Forest trails and at most Washington State Parks campgrounds. Pack a tie-out, a towel for muddy paws (this is the PNW, after all), and your pup is ready to roll.
mercerisland.gov/parks/page/luther-burbank-parkCan the RV be delivered to me on Mercer Island?
Yes, RV delivery Mercer Island travelers love is widely available, and it's one of the easiest ways to start a stress-free trip. Many RVezy hosts on the Eastside and around Seattle will drive the motorhome or trailer directly to your home, hotel, or campground, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. This is especially helpful if you're flying into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) about 20 miles south of the island, or if you'd rather skip towing across the I-90 bridge. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts offering it, and check each listing for delivery fees by distance.
portseattle.org/sea-tacHow far can I drive from Mercer Island on a typical RV rental?
You can cover a lot of ground on a Mercer Island RV trip, because the island sits right on Interstate 90, the main east-west artery through Washington. Mount Rainier National Park is about 95 miles south (roughly 2.5 hours), Olympic National Park's Hurricane Ridge is about 130 miles via the Bainbridge ferry, Leavenworth is 120 miles east over Stevens Pass, and the North Cascades reach is around 110 miles north. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with affordable overage rates, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Check the listing's mileage policy and you'll know exactly what your road trip range looks like.
nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Mercer Island for an RV?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Mercer Island visitors can reach in under two hours. Saltwater State Park in Des Moines (about 25 miles south) offers utility sites overlooking Puget Sound. Lake Easton State Park, around 70 miles east on I-90, has full hookups near the Cascades. Kanaskat-Palmer State Park (about 40 miles southeast) sits on the Green River with utility sites and showers. Closer in, Issaquah Village RV Park is just 10 miles east with full hookups, and Lake Pleasant RV Park in Bothell is a 30-amp full-service option about 20 miles north. Book Washington State Parks through the Washington State Parks reservation system up to 9 months ahead for summer weekends.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/saltwater-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Mercer Island?
The sweet spot for RV rental in Mercer Island, WA runs from late June through mid-September, when daytime highs sit in the mid-70s to low 80s and rainfall drops dramatically (July averages just 0.7 inches of rain in the Seattle area). Late May, June, and September are the smart-money shoulder months: temperatures in the 60s to low 70s, smaller crowds at Mount Rainier and the Olympics, and lower nightly rates. Winter rentals (December through February) are great for storm watching on the coast or ski trips to Snoqualmie Pass, just 50 miles east. Local insider tip: book by early February for July and August trips, because the best rigs vanish fast.
weather.gov/sew/I have never rented an RV before. Is it really doable?
Yes, and first time renting an RV in the Seattle area is genuinely easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water tanks, the generator, the awning, and how to dump and refill. You can also message your host any time during the trip with questions. For first-timers, we suggest starting with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (22 to 26 feet), which handle Mercer Island's neighborhoods and the I-90 bridge with ease. Pro tip: pick a host offering delivery to your first campground so your only job on day one is enjoying the trip.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/highways-bridges/i-90-bridgesWhat happens if I break down or have an issue on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so whether you have a flat tire on I-90 near Snoqualmie Pass or a dead battery at a campground in the Cascades, help is one phone call away. Your host is also a direct resource and often the fastest way to troubleshoot a quirky switch or appliance. The RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the roadside assistance number stuck on the dash during your walkthrough, so it's saved on your phone before you even leave Mercer Island.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/mountainpasses/snoqualmieCan I take the RV on a road trip from Mercer Island to other states or Canada?
Absolutely, an RV road trip from Mercer Island opens up some of North America's best scenery. Popular interstate routes head south to Crater Lake (about 415 miles) and the Oregon Coast, or east to Glacier National Park in Montana (around 540 miles). Cross-border trips to British Columbia, including Vancouver (about 145 miles) and Whistler, are often allowed but depend on the host's insurance, so confirm with your host through the RVezy message thread before booking. One important note: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Bring your passport for any Canada run and you're ready for an epic motorhome rental Mercer Island launch.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and fuel won't surprise you. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A motorhomes average 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 MPG combined. Washington gas prices tend to run higher than the national average, recently hovering around $4.20 to $4.60 per gallon in the Seattle area. For a 3-day, 300-mile Mount Rainier loop in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up off-island in Bellevue or Issaquah, where prices are usually a bit lower than near the Mercer Island Town Center.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Mercer Island?
For summer weekends, book your campground as soon as your RV dates are locked in. Washington State Parks open reservations 9 months in advance through their official portal, and waterfront sites at places like Saltwater, Kanaskat-Palmer, and Lake Easton often fill within minutes of opening for July and August weekends. National Park Service campgrounds at Mount Rainier and Olympic open reservations 6 months ahead on Recreation.gov. Private parks like Lake Pleasant RV Park or Issaquah Village can usually be booked 1 to 3 months out. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) almost always have openings, even in peak season, and rates are often lower.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Mercer Island?
Driving an RV around Mercer Island is straightforward once you know a few local quirks. The island connects to the mainland by the I-90 floating bridge (the Lacey V. Murrow and Homer M. Hadley bridges), and there are no low clearances on the standard route across, so any RV fits comfortably. Avoid downtown Seattle streets with a large rig, since some parking garages have 7 to 9 foot clearances, and skip the SR 99 tunnel with anything over 12 feet 6 inches. Rush hour on I-90 westbound in the morning and eastbound late afternoon can crawl, so aim to drive between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Cascade mountain passes can see snow October through April, so check WSDOT pass reports before crossing.
wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpassesWhat amenities do local campgrounds offer for RVs?
Campgrounds near Mercer Island span everything from full hookups to rustic dry camping. Private parks like Issaquah Village RV Park and Lake Pleasant RV Park offer 30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi at every site. Washington State Parks such as Lake Easton and Saltwater typically have utility sites (water and electric) plus a centrally located dump station and potable water fill. National forest campgrounds in the Snoqualmie and Mount Baker areas are usually dry camping with vault toilets, so you'll rely on your RV's onboard tanks. Pro tip: the dump station at Blue Sky RV Park in Preston (25 miles east on I-90) is open to the public for a small fee, handy on your way back to the island.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/lake-easton-state-parkWhat features and amenities come inside the RVs?
Even compact campervan rental Mercer Island options come well equipped. Expect a real bed (most rigs sleep 2 to 8), a kitchen with a propane stove, fridge, microwave, sink, and cookware, and a bathroom with toilet and shower in nearly all Class B, C, and A motorhomes plus most travel trailers. Larger rigs often add a TV, outdoor speakers, awning, and a generator for off-grid power. Seatbelts are provided for every traveler the RV is rated to carry, which matters if you're road-tripping with kids. Wi-Fi varies; some hosts include a mobile hotspot. Each listing on RVezy shows a full amenity list, so you can match the rig to your family RV trip Mercer Island plans.
nhtsa.gov/equipment/seat-beltsWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
You can customize your motorhome rental Mercer Island experience with helpful add-ons most hosts offer: linen and kitchen packages ($40 to $100), generator usage ($3 to $5 per hour), bike racks, camping chairs, propane fire pits, and even paddleboards or kayaks for Lake Washington. Pickup is usually at the host's location on the Eastside, but delivery to your home, a campground, or even SEA airport is common (fees scale with distance). Mileage policies typically run 100 to 150 free miles per day with overage at 35 to 50 cents per mile, and some hosts include unlimited mileage. Pro tip: ask your host about a late return window. Many will give you a free extra hour or two if their next booking allows.
mercerisland.gov/community/page/getting-aroundHow do payments and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure, handled entirely through RVezy, so you never hand cash to a host. You pay the booking total (rental, fees, and your chosen protection plan) upfront with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held around the time of pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value, and it's released after the trip if there's no damage or excess cleaning needed. To avoid issues, take dated photos of the RV inside and out at both pickup and drop-off, return with the fuel and tanks as agreed, and keep the rig tidy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or store an RV on Mercer Island before or after my trip?
Short-term RV parking on Mercer Island is doable with a little planning. City code allows vehicles, including RVs and trailers up to 27 feet long and 9 feet tall, to park on the public right-of-way alongside the registered owner's property for up to 72 hours under Mercer Island City Code 10.36.225 and 10.36.229. If you're renting and need a place to stage the RV before heading out, the easiest options are your own driveway, a friend's driveway, or having your host deliver the rig directly to your campground so you skip storage altogether. For longer storage, private facilities in Bellevue, Renton, and Issaquah (10 to 15 minutes off-island) offer covered and uncovered RV spots.
