Campgrounds and RV parks near Ocosta, WA

The defining activity here is the beach. Outdoor recreation includes beachcombing, swimming, surf fishing, clamming, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking, and storm watching is popular in the cooler months. Kite flying and whale watching are common along the open sand. Razor clamming is the signature draw. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife manages harvest beaches along this coast, including the Twin Harbors zone from Willapa Bay north to the south jetty at the mouth of Grays Harbor, and all diggers 16 or older must have an applicable fishing license to take razor clams on any beach. Westport, just up the road, offers charter fishing, a working marina, the Westport Light State Park lighthouse walk, and cold-water surf breaks. Short trails through dunes at both state parks lead directly to the open beach.

Summer is the peak RV season on this stretch of coast. Days are mild and relatively dry, campgrounds run at full staffing, and reservations are tight on weekends. Peak season for Washington State Parks runs May 15 through September 15, which sets the reservation rhythm at both Twin Harbors and Grayland Beach. Fall and winter bring Pacific storms, heavy rain, and a different rhythm. Grayland Beach experiences seasonal flooding that may affect roughly fifty campsites during the shoulder season from November 1 through April 15, and those sites are offered first-come, first-served during that period. Razor clam digs are commonly scheduled in this window, with the best low tides for digging falling in afternoon and evening hours from fall through mid-March, then shifting to morning tides in spring. Spring is variable, with rain, wind, and occasional sunny stretches. State park campsites stay open year-round, but at Twin Harbors camping is first-come, first-served from September 15 through April 1, so reservation rules differ from summer.

Sites vary in size. Twin Harbors has hiker/biker, standard and full-hookup sites with bathrooms and showers; hookup sites are small and close together, with a maximum site length of 35 feet, and larger rigs can have difficulty maneuvering. Grayland Beach campsites are large, paved driveways that accommodate larger RVs, with a maximum site length of 60 feet at limited sites. Facilities at both state parks include flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, and a dump station. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. Cell coverage varies by carrier and is generally weaker inside the tree-covered loops than out near the beach. Coastal hazards are real. Watch tides closely when digging or driving on the sand, follow posted beach safety guidance, and avoid signed snowy plover nesting areas in the dunes.
