Hiking dominates the Quilcene area. Olympic National Forest trails follow the Big Quilcene River and climb into the Buckhorn Wilderness, with shorter family options near the Falls View Canyon overlook just south of town on Highway 101. Hood Canal supports oyster and clam harvesting (with a current shellfish license and open-season check), kayaking, and saltwater fishing. Scenic Beach State Park offers 1,500 feet of shoreline and views across the canal to the Olympic Mountains, with native rhododendrons that peak in late spring.
