Campgrounds and RV parks near Roche Harbor, WA

Roche Harbor sits on the northwest tip of San Juan Island, a former lime-works company town that is now a marina village with restaurants, a historic hotel, and a chapel. Reaching it with an RV requires a Washington State Ferries crossing from Anacortes to Friday Harbor, then a drive of roughly twenty minutes north on Roche Harbor Road. Camping options on San Juan Island itself are limited, which makes Lakedale Resort the closest full-service base for RV travelers. Lakedale offers the only RV sites with hookups on the island, set on 82 acres with three spring-fed lakes about four miles south of Roche Harbor. Across the water on Orcas Island, West Beach Resort provides waterfront RV sites and tent camping on a west-facing pebble beach near Eastsound. North of the border, Gulf Islands National Park Reserve protects a chain of small islands in British Columbia. Its Prior Centennial campground on North Pender Island offers drive-in sites in a forested setting, RV-accessible but with no services. Travelers staging from the mainland often book Oceanside RV Resort in the Anacortes area before the ferry.

Two reservations matter for an RV trip to Roche Harbor: the campground and the ferry. Washington State Ferries strongly recommends vehicle reservations on the Anacortes to San Juan Islands route, with summer slots released in waves at two months, two weeks, and two days before each sailing. Walk-on passengers and bicycles do not need a reservation. Book the return leg separately, since round trips are not bundled. Lakedale Resort and West Beach Resort book directly through their own websites or by phone, with a deposit equal to the first night typically required at Lakedale. Gulf Islands National Park Reserve sites, including Prior Centennial, are reserved through the Parks Canada Reservation Service at reservation.pc.gc.ca or by phone. Summer dates open in late January and fill quickly for weekends.
