Camping near Rocky Point, Washington
Rocky Point is a small community on the Kitsap Peninsula in western Washington, surrounded by Puget Sound shoreline and second-growth Douglas fir forest. The location places RV travelers within a short drive of Bremerton, Port Orchard, and the ferry connections to Seattle and Bainbridge Island, making it a practical base for exploring the central Sound.
Camping options in the surrounding area span Washington State Parks, Department of Natural Resources forest sites, and private RV parks. Illahee State Park sits on the shores of Port Orchard Bay just east of Bremerton, while Manchester State Park sits near Port Orchard on Rich Passage and has over 3,400 feet of saltwater shoreline. Green Mountain Horse Camp serves the Green Mountain State Forest to the west, and private options including Cedar Glen RV Park and Eagle Tree RV Park round out the choices for travelers needing hookups.
Most public campgrounds in the area accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs, though site length limits vary and full hookups are uncommon at the state parks.
Things to do near Rocky Point
Saltwater recreation drives most trips. Illahee State Park sits on the shores of Port Orchard Bay and includes a boat ramp, drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station, with crabbing, fishing, and scuba diving among the common activities. Kayaking and paddling are common on Port Orchard Bay and Rich Passage, and Manchester State Park offers more than 3,400 feet of saltwater shoreline along wooded hiking trails.
On land, Green Mountain Horse Camp offers access to 13 miles of trails used for horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, and camping, with views toward the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound on clear days. History-minded visitors can tour the preserved torpedo warehouse and gun-battery remnants at Manchester, or visit Illahee's memorial featuring two large naval guns donated from the U.S.S. West Virginia.

Summer is the peak window. Weather is warm and dry from late June through August, and reservations at Manchester State Park are available April 1 through October 31, with sites operating first-come, first-served during the winter months. Illahee has year-round camping, and all sites are reservable, with first-come, first-served available if a site is not reserved.
Spring and fall bring cool, wet weather but smaller crowds. Green Mountain Horse Camp is open for camping on weekends only, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and campsites can accommodate up to a 25-foot trailer, though size may vary by site. Day-use fishing sites in the area are open for fishing from April 15 to October 30, and vehicle access to some DNR sites is not available year-round.
Winter is the quietest season. Some loops and amenities at state parks close or run on reduced hours under the Washington State Parks winter schedule, and weather is consistently wet. RVers should verify hookup and dump-station availability before traveling in the off-season.

How to book a campsite
Washington State Parks campsites at Illahee and Manchester are reserved online at the state parks website or by calling (888) 226-7688. Reservations can be booked up to 9 months in advance, and summer weekends at both parks fill quickly once the booking window opens.
DNR campgrounds, including Green Mountain Horse Camp, are first-come, first-served at no additional cost with the purchase of a Discover Pass. A Discover Pass is also required for vehicle access at Washington state parks. Private RV parks such as Cedar Glen RV Park and Eagle Tree RV Park handle their own bookings directly. For all options, calling ahead is the most reliable way to confirm rig length limits, hookup type, and seasonal availability.
What to expect on the ground
Sites at Illahee and Manchester sit in dense second-growth forest, which provides shade and screening but can mean tight maneuvering for larger rigs. The maximum campsite length at Illahee is 40 feet with limited availability, and Manchester has standard and partial hookup sites, with all sites usable for tents or RVs depending on site size. Illahee provides drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station, and Manchester has restrooms with showers in each loop along with a dump station near the entrance.
Cell service is generally usable across the Kitsap Peninsula but can drop in forested loops. Grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are available in Bremerton, Silverdale, and Port Orchard. Black bears, raccoons, and deer are present, so food should be stored securely. Quiet hours at DNR campgrounds are 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Rocky Point, WA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Rocky Point, WA?
RV rental in Rocky Point is more affordable than many travelers expect, especially compared to renting in Seattle proper. On RVezy, travel trailers near Rocky Point typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervan rentals run about $150 to $225, and Class C motorhome rentals usually land between $175 and $275 nightly. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can find cheap RV rental Rocky Point options by booking midweek, traveling in the shoulder seasons (April or late September), or filtering for travel trailers if you already have a tow vehicle. Kitsap Peninsula listings are often less expensive than identical rigs across the water in Seattle, so booking on this side of Puget Sound stretches your budget further.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rocky%20Point%2C%20WashingtonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Rocky Point, Washington?
Great news: a regular Washington driver's license (or your home state or country equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Rocky Point. The Washington Department of Licensing does not require a special endorsement or commercial driver's license for personal RVs, including Class A motorhomes and large fifth wheels. To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older and complete ID verification during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit from your local auto club. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how straightforward the requirements are for a Kitsap Peninsula RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Rocky Point protected if something goes wrong?
Yes. Every RV rental in Rocky Point booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road feeling confident. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip, which means a minor scrape at Scenic Beach State Park or a parking-lot ding in Silverdale will not derail your vacation. During checkout you choose from different coverage tiers based on how much peace of mind you want, with higher tiers offering lower deductibles. Each tier is purpose-built for peer-to-peer RV rentals and handles the situations renters most commonly encounter. Pick your tier, pack the cooler, and enjoy the Hood Canal views.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Rocky Point RV trip plans change?
Booking is low risk. RVezy applies a clear, consistent cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after you book so you are not locked in the moment you confirm. Refund amounts after the grace period depend on how far in advance you cancel. Hosts do not set the cancellation terms; RVezy manages the policy consistently across every listing, so you see the same fair process whether you are renting a campervan in Bremerton or a Class C near Silverdale. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy helps you with a refund or rebooking credit, and the support team is available before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Rocky Point?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Rocky Point options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see every listing where the host welcomes dogs (and sometimes cats) along for the adventure. The Kitsap Peninsula is genuinely dog-friendly: Illahee State Park, Scenic Beach State Park, and Manchester State Park all allow leashed pets on trails and beaches, and the off-leash area at Bandix Dog Park in Poulsbo is a local favorite for stretching paws between drives. Some hosts charge a small pet fee or cleaning add-on, which you'll see clearly before booking. Pro tip: message the host to mention your pet's size, and they'll often share their favorite local trails.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/activities/pets-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or house in Rocky Point?
Yes, RV delivery Rocky Point is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many Kitsap Peninsula hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campsite at Illahee State Park, Kitsap Memorial State Park, or even your driveway in Bremerton, Silverdale, or Poulsbo. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, along with their delivery radius and fees (usually a flat rate plus per-mile cost). It's the easiest way to enjoy a Rocky Point RV trip without ever getting behind the wheel of a big rig.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/illahee-state-parkHow far can I drive on my Rocky Point RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of range to explore. Most Rocky Point RV rentals on RVezy include 100 to 150 free miles per night, which is more than enough for a typical Kitsap Peninsula loop. Many hosts also offer RV rental with unlimited mileage as an add-on or for longer bookings, perfect if you're planning a bigger Washington loop. For reference from Rocky Point: Olympic National Park's Hurricane Ridge is about 75 miles, Mount Rainier is roughly 110 miles, Leavenworth sits around 175 miles east, and Mount St. Helens is about 165 miles south. Each listing shows the mileage policy and overage rate up front, so you can pick the rig that matches your itinerary without any surprises.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time-travel/travel-timesWhere are the best campgrounds near Rocky Point, WA?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Rocky Point are all within a short drive: Illahee State Park (about 7 miles east in Bremerton) offers wooded sites near Puget Sound; Scenic Beach State Park (around 14 miles northwest in Seabeck) delivers Hood Canal sunsets with Olympic Mountain views; Manchester State Park (roughly 15 miles southeast in Port Orchard) has forested sites that fit many larger rigs; Kitsap Memorial State Park (about 20 miles north near Poulsbo) offers full-hookup and standard sites along the Hood Canal; and Belfair State Park (about 25 miles south) sits on a long stretch of saltwater shoreline. Reserve through Washington State Parks for the busiest weekends.
washington.goingtocamp.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Rocky Point?
Late June through early September is prime time for RV camping near Rocky Point, with daytime highs typically in the 70s, long daylight hours, and the famously dry Kitsap Peninsula summer (the area sits in the Olympic rain shadow and gets noticeably less rain than Seattle). May and September are the local insider's secret: temperatures often in the 60s, smaller crowds, and lower nightly rates. Fall through spring brings cool, wet weather (highs in the 40s to mid 50s, lows in the 30s to mid 40s), but it is also when you can have state park campgrounds nearly to yourself. Many Rocky Point hosts rent year-round, so off-season storm-watching trips along Hood Canal are absolutely doable.
weather.gov/sew/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Rocky Point?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, propane, water systems, and dump valves, and they're a text away during your trip. Rocky Point is a forgiving place to learn: the surrounding roads on the Kitsap Peninsula (State Route 3, Kitsap Way, and Highway 16) are wide, well-maintained, and far less hectic than Seattle traffic. Start with a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Rocky Point if you're nervous about size, and consider delivery so the host parks and levels the rig for you. By day two, you'll feel like a pro.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/highway-rest-areas/safety-tipsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire during my RV trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is just one phone call away whether you are on Highway 101 along the Hood Canal, climbing toward Hurricane Ridge, or stuck with a flat in a Silverdale parking lot. Roadside support handles common issues like jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also a direct resource for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after the trip. Save both numbers in your phone at pickup and you will have total peace of mind on your Kitsap Peninsula adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental on a road trip from Rocky Point into Canada or Oregon?
Most RVezy hosts in Washington allow interstate travel, so an RV road trip from Rocky Point into Oregon (Astoria is about 175 miles, Portland around 200 miles) is usually no problem with a quick message to your host. Crossing into British Columbia is sometimes allowed too, depending on the host's insurance, so confirm before booking if Vancouver Island or Whistler is on your list. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance coverage limits. Popular routes from Rocky Point include the Olympic Peninsula loop via Highway 101, the North Cascades Highway, and the Pacific Coast down through Long Beach, WA. Message the host from the listing page to confirm your route before booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy should I expect, and what does gas cost in the Rocky Point area?
Budget smart and you'll have plenty left for clam chowder in Poulsbo. Expect roughly 8 to 10 mpg for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 15 to 20 mpg for a campervan, and 12 to 16 mpg for a truck towing a travel trailer. Washington gas prices typically run higher than the national average; around Rocky Point, regular unleaded usually lands between $4.20 and $4.80 per gallon, with diesel a bit higher. Fill up in Bremerton or Silverdale before heading toward the Olympic Peninsula, where prices climb at remote stations along Highway 101. Pro tip: use GasBuddy near Gorst on Highway 16 for the cheapest fuel on the Kitsap Peninsula.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Rocky Point?
For peak summer weekends (mid-June through Labor Day), reserve Washington State Parks sites the moment they open through the official Washington State Parks reservation system. Popular spots like Kitsap Memorial, Scenic Beach, and Manchester State Park can fill quickly for July and August Fridays and Saturdays. For weekday stays or shoulder-season trips in May, September, or October, you can usually book 2 to 4 weeks ahead and still grab a great site. Private RV parks on the Kitsap Peninsula typically have more flexible availability. Local insider tip: Sunday and Monday nights at the state parks are often wide open even in midsummer.
washington.goingtocamp.com/What are driving conditions like around Rocky Point and the Kitsap Peninsula?
Driving an RV around Rocky Point is genuinely pleasant. Kitsap Way and State Route 3 are wide, two-to-four-lane roads built for plenty of truck and military traffic from Naval Base Kitsap, so big rigs fit comfortably. Watch for the Hood Canal Bridge on Highway 104: it's a floating retractable bridge with occasional openings for naval vessels, and high winds can briefly close it. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge on Highway 16 has a small toll for eastbound travel that's billed automatically. Ferries from Bremerton and Bainbridge Island accept RVs but charge by length, so check Washington State Ferries fares in advance. Winter brings rain rather than heavy snow at sea level, and roads are well-plowed even when occasional flurries hit.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time-travel/traffic-camerasWhat amenities do campgrounds near Rocky Point typically offer, and where can I dump and fill water?
Local campgrounds are well set up for RVs. Kitsap Memorial State Park offers full-hookup sites (water, electric, sewer) along with standard sites, while Illahee, Scenic Beach, and Manchester State Parks have standard sites with potable water spigots, flush toilets, and hot showers, plus dump stations available at most parks. Private parks on the Kitsap Peninsula typically offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, and laundry. For dumping between trips, state park dump stations are usually free for registered campers or a small fee for day users. Pro tip: fill your fresh tank at your pickup location since hose pressure and water quality are most reliable there.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks-and-trails/kitsap-memorial-state-parkWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Rocky Point?
You'll be impressed at how turnkey these rigs are. Most motorhome rental Rocky Point listings come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes), bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a generator or solar setup for off-grid camping at spots like Scenic Beach, plus an outdoor awning for those warm Hood Canal afternoons. TVs, Bluetooth stereos, and Wi-Fi hotspots are common in newer Class C and Class B campervan rental Rocky Point listings. Each RVezy listing has a full amenities checklist, so you can filter for exactly what you want (bike rack, kayak racks, and pet-friendly setups are popular Kitsap upgrades).
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are popular for Rocky Point RV rentals?
Hosts on the Kitsap Peninsula offer some great add-ons to make your trip easier. Common extras include linen and kitchen kits ($25 to $75), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour), camp chairs and outdoor mats, bike or kayak racks (huge for Hood Canal paddling), portable Wi-Fi hotspots, and propane top-offs. For pickup logistics, you can either meet the host at their location near Rocky Point/Bremerton or request delivery directly to a campground or your home. Mileage policies vary by listing (typically 100 to 150 free miles per night with $0.30 to $0.45 per overage mile), and many hosts offer discounted weekly rates for 7+ night bookings. Filter listings on RVezy by what matters most to you and book Instant Book listings for immediate confirmation.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/recreational-vehiclesHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Rocky Point?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and fully online: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps your transaction protected. You will see the total cost (nightly rate, fees, taxes, any add-ons) clearly broken out before you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, typically a few days before the trip, and released after a successful return. The deposit amount varies by RV and is shown on each listing. To avoid issues: do a thorough walk-around with your host at pickup, take photos and video of the rig inside and out, return it with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump tanks where required.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a family RV trip from Rocky Point a good idea, and what are the top destinations to visit?
A family RV trip Rocky Point is one of the best ways to see the Pacific Northwest, especially because you're perfectly positioned for short drives to legendary destinations. Top road trip ideas from Rocky Point: Olympic National Park (Hurricane Ridge is about 75 miles for alpine views and easy family hikes), Mount Rainier National Park (around 110 miles to Paradise's wildflower meadows), Long Beach Peninsula (about 165 miles south for 28 miles of drivable beach), Leavenworth's Bavarian-themed village (around 175 miles east), and Mount St. Helens (about 165 miles south for the Johnston Ridge Observatory). Closer to home, the Suquamish Museum and Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island are easy half-day trips. Book early, pack layers, and you're set.
