Roy is a small rural city in Pierce County, Washington, located south of Tacoma and roughly an hour from Seattle. The town sits in the South Puget Sound region between Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Nisqually River valley, and the foothills approaching Mount Rainier. Its position makes it a practical base for RV travelers heading to Mount Rainier National Park, the state capital area around Olympia, and the lakes scattered across southern Pierce and northern Thurston counties. Riverbend Campground and Henleys Silver Lake Resort Campground are among the closest, while WA Land Yacht Harbor RV Park and Event Center, Rainbow RV Resort, and Camp Lakeview round out the nearby choices for travelers who want hookups, dump stations, and easy highway access. The surrounding area is rural and wooded, with working farms, ranch land, and pockets of second-growth forest. Expect quiet country roads, limited cell coverage in spots, and a short drive to grocery stores in Yelm, Spanaway, or Lacey.

Washington State Parks uses a single statewide reservation system at washington.goingtocamp.com, with phone bookings at 888-CAMPOUT. For Mount Rainier National Park campgrounds and wilderness permits, bookings go through Recreation.gov. Mount Rainier will not require timed-entry reservations for park entry in 2026, but a National Park or interagency pass is still needed to enter. Private RV parks and resorts near Roy take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, book as early as the booking window opens, and keep backup parks in mind.
