Campgrounds and RV parks near Sunday Lake, WA

Sunday Lake itself is best for low-key paddling and bank fishing. A public fishing access and walk-in boat launch sit on the north side of the lake, and largemouth bass, yellow perch, pumpkinseed sunfish, and brown bullhead are present. Kayaks, canoes, and electric-motor boats fit the rules; gas engines do not. Lake Goodwin, a few miles west, is the regional swim and ski lake and draws most of the summer crowd. Lake Goodwin Resort, Cedar Grove Shores RV Park, and Emerald Springs RV Park give lake-area bases for swimming, water skiing, and trout and bass fishing. Off-road riders can drive about 30 minutes north to Walker Valley ORV, where the working forest offers 36 miles of trails with single track for motorcycles and mountain bikes, double-track for ATVs, and 6 miles of 4x4 trails. Beach walks at Kayak Point and tulip fields in the Skagit Valley round out an itinerary.

Summer is the comfortable window. July and August bring the warmest, driest stretch, with an average August high near 72°F and an average low near 52°F. This is also peak demand for lake-area sites, and weekends at Lake Goodwin Resort and the surrounding parks book out well ahead. Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with cooler temperatures and steady rain. Bookings are easier, but campers should plan for wet ground and short daylight, especially in October and November. November is the wettest month, with rain falling on roughly 20 days and about 125 mm of precipitation. Winter is cold and wet rather than snowy at this elevation, though icy mornings happen. Nearby public parks reduce services off-season. At Wenberg County Park on Lake Goodwin, Loop 3 is closed from October 1st through the end of February and Loop 2 is closed from November 11th through the end of February. Winterization begins after Labor Day weekend, most water is shut off, and the restrooms and dump station are closed. Private RV parks generally stay open year-round with reduced amenities.

Expect a working rural landscape: farms, second-growth forest, county roads, and small-town services in Stanwood. Cell coverage is generally good along the I-5 corridor and at Lake Goodwin, and thinner once a rig moves east into the Cascade foothills. Site styles vary widely. Lake Goodwin Resort sits on the lake with full hookups, and the lakeshore parks lean toward longer-stay RV layouts with tighter spacing typical of older lake-area properties. Port Susan Camping Club is a gated, members-only community on roughly 700 acres of forest near Marine Drive. Mosquitoes can be active near the lakes in late spring. Bring layers even in summer: mornings off Puget Sound stay cool, and rain gear is useful in any season. Black bear and deer are present in the foothills, so secure food at primitive sites like Walker Valley.
