Campgrounds near Taholah
Taholah sits at the mouth of the Quinault River on the Pacific coast of Washington, on the Quinault Indian Reservation in Grays Harbor County. State Route 109 ends in the village, with Moclips about nine miles south and Hoquiam roughly forty-one miles south. The reservation beach lands have been closed to the general public since 1969, so RV travelers base themselves at campgrounds along the SR 109 corridor between Taholah and Ocean Shores and visit Taholah as a day stop.
The closest established campground is Pacific Beach State Park, a small oceanfront park with electric utility sites, standard sites, and two yurts. South of there along SR 109, The Driftwood RV Resort and Campground, Echoes of The Sea, Copalis Beach Resort-Sunrise Resorts, and Tidelands Resort offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, and walk-on beach access.
This stretch is part of Washington's open-coast camping zone: wide sandy beaches, marine fog, frequent rain, and razor clam digs that draw heavy weekend crowds in fall, winter, and spring.
Things to do near Taholah
The main draw is the beach itself. Visitors comb the surf line for sand dollars and driftwood, fly kites, surf-fish for perch and salmon, and watch for bald eagles and gray whales offshore. Razor clam digging is the signature seasonal activity, with WDFW-managed openers at nearby Copalis and Mocrocks beaches.
For a forest day trip, drive inland to the Quinault Rain Forest on the south shore of Lake Quinault, where loop trails and waterfall hikes wind through old-growth Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. Olympic National Park's Pacific coast strip is reachable to the north via US 101.
In Taholah itself, the Quinault Nation museum displays an extensive basket collection, carvings, and cultural artifacts. The annual Chief Taholah Days commemoration, held the first week of July, includes a parade, canoe races, salmon bake, and fireworks.

Summer, roughly late June through early September, is the driest and warmest window on this stretch of coast. Highs sit in the upper 60s Fahrenheit, mornings start foggy and clear by midday, and rainfall drops sharply compared with the rest of the year. This is also peak booking season: Pacific Beach State Park and the SR 109 RV resorts fill on weekends and around the Fourth of July, so sites should be reserved months in advance.
Fall and winter shift to a different rhythm. Storms arrive off the Pacific, rain is steady and heavy, and wind gusts on the open beach can be severe. The trade-off is razor clam season, which typically runs from early October into early May on tide series approved by WDFW, with final approval usually confirmed a week or less ahead based on marine toxin testing.
Spring brings gradually lengthening daylight, lighter crowds outside of clam-dig weekends, and active bird migration along the coast.
Booking an RV site near Taholah
Pacific Beach State Park uses the Washington State Parks reservation system. Sites are reservable year-round and can be booked up to nine months in advance of the arrival date, either online through the state parks website or by phone at 888-CAMPOUT. The campground is small and fills quickly for summer weekends and razor clam openers, so booking early is essential. A Discover Pass is required for day-use vehicle access at Washington State Parks.
Privately operated resorts along SR 109, including The Driftwood RV Resort and Campground, Echoes of The Sea, Copalis Beach Resort-Sunrise Resorts, and Tidelands Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Clam-dig weekends, holiday weekends, and July through Labor Day are the tightest dates.
What to expect on a Taholah RV trip
Pack for wet, windy weather even in summer. The Olympic Peninsula coast is among the wettest places in the contiguous United States, fog is common, and beach winds whip up sand and salt spray. Bring rain gear, layers, and tie-downs for awnings and outdoor gear.
At Pacific Beach State Park, utility sites are electric-only with a shared dump station and fresh-water fill for RV holding tanks. Wood-burning campfires are not allowed in the campsites, though portable propane fire pits are permitted, and beach fires are allowed at least 100 feet from dunes and vegetation. Sites are close together with limited natural screening.
Reservation beaches within the Quinault Indian Nation are currently closed to the public and no access permits are being issued, so plan beach time south of the Quinault River. Cell service is patchy north of Pacific Beach.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Taholah, WA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Taholah, WA?
RV rental in Taholah, WA is approachable for such a remote stretch of the Olympic Peninsula coast. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs run $250 to $400 depending on season, age, and amenities. Booking midweek and traveling in the shoulder months of late September or May can shave 20 to 30 percent off summer rates. For a cheap RV rental Taholah trip, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts who include a starter kit or kitchen package so you are not buying extras on arrival. Pro tip: pair your booking with the free Quinault Rainforest Loop Drive for a high-value, low-cost adventure.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Taholah,%20WashingtonDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Taholah?
Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Taholah, WA. Washington State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, including Class A motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels available on RVezy. You just need to be 25 or older (the standard RVezy approved driver age) and upload a clear photo of your license during booking so RVezy can verify your ID. Visiting from outside the U.S.? An International Driving Permit paired with your home-country license works perfectly. Most first-timers are surprised how simple the process is, leaving more time to daydream about salmon dinners on the Quinault River.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Taholah?
Every RV rental in Taholah, WA booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 101 with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level during checkout, not the host, which means you decide how much financial cushion feels right for your Olympic Peninsula adventure. Coverage helps protect against most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and roadside assistance is bundled in at every tier. Pro tip: cell service gets thin north of Moclips, so save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave Aberdeen and you are fully set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Taholah RV rental?
You can book your Taholah RV trip with confidence, because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy that applies to every reservation. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, with additional refund tiers depending on how far in advance of your trip start you cancel, reassuring on a coast where Pacific storms occasionally reroute plans. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook. Full, current details are kept on the RVezy Help Center and in your booking confirmation. The takeaway: locking in that rainforest weekend now is genuinely low risk, so you can grab the best dates before peak summer fills up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Taholah?
Absolutely. A pet-friendly RV rental Taholah trip is one of the most popular reasons travelers come here, since dogs love the wide beaches and forest trails as much as their humans do. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see motorhomes and travel trailers from hosts who welcome four-legged guests. Once you arrive, leashed dogs are allowed at Pacific Beach State Park, on the Quinault Rain Forest Nature Trail, and on most Olympic National Forest roads around Lake Quinault. Note that Olympic National Park trails are largely pet-free, so plan beach and forest-service walks instead. Pro tip: pack an old towel for sandy paws after a romp on the wild Pacific shoreline north of Moclips.
nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Taholah?
Yes, RV delivery Taholah is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you would rather skip driving a big rig down narrow Moclips Highway. Many RVezy hosts in Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Ocean Shores, and Pacific Beach offer delivery and setup directly to campgrounds like Pacific Beach State Park, Ocean City State Park, or a private property near Taholah. They will level the RV, hook up water and power if available, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service and their per-mile fees. It is the easiest possible way to enjoy a motorhome rental Taholah experience without ever getting behind the wheel.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/pacific-beach-state-parkHow far can I drive on a Taholah RV trip, and how do mileage policies work?
Plenty of range to explore. Most RVezy hosts near Taholah include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many offer RV rental with unlimited mileage as an upgrade for longer loops. To put that in perspective, Taholah to Lake Quinault is about 25 miles, Taholah to Kalaloch is roughly 45 miles, Taholah to the Hoh Rain Forest is around 90 miles, and Taholah to Port Angeles is about 130 miles. A full Olympic Peninsula loop from Taholah back to Taholah runs roughly 330 miles. Check the listing's mileage section before booking, and if you are planning a bigger Taholah RV trip up to Neah Bay or out to Forks, message the host to add an unlimited package up front so there are no surprises at drop-off.
nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/driving-tour-of-olympic.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Taholah for RVs?
The best campgrounds near Taholah include Pacific Beach State Park (about 14 miles south, with utility sites and ocean access), Kalaloch Campground in Olympic National Park (about 45 miles north, RV-friendly sites with surf views), Willaby Campground on Lake Quinault (small RVs only, lakeside in old-growth rainforest), and Rain Forest Resort Village on South Shore Road (lakeside sites with 30-amp hookups, open year-round). For full hookups, Ocean City State Park and Copalis Beach RV resorts sit about 25 miles south. Pro tip: book Pacific Beach through Washington State Parks and Kalaloch through Recreation.gov as early as the booking window opens for summer weekends, they fill fast.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232464When is the best time to plan an RV rental in Taholah, WA?
Honestly, the sweet spot for RV camping Taholah is mid-July through mid-September, when daytime highs sit around 65 to 72°F, rain eases off, and the Pacific fog burns off by afternoon. May, June, and late September are quieter shoulder months with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s and the best campground availability. Winter is wild and wonderful: storm watching season from November through February draws regulars who love thundering surf, with daytime temps around 45°F and frequent rain (Taholah averages over 100 inches a year, the wettest stretch of the lower 48). Pro tip: pack layers and rain gear even in August, because coastal mornings can feel cool until the sun climbs over the rainforest.
weather.gov/sew/I'm a first-time renter. Is renting an RV in Taholah easy?
Yes, first time renting an RV near Taholah is genuinely beginner-friendly. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, generator, slide-outs, and dump valves, and you can message them anytime during your trip if a question pops up. The drive from Aberdeen up State Route 109 to Taholah is a paved, two-lane coastal road with light traffic and gentle curves, ideal for new RVers. If you would rather not drive at all, choose a host who offers delivery directly to Pacific Beach State Park or your private site. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop in the Ocean Shores Walmart parking lot before heading north and you will feel confident in 10 minutes.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/roads-bridges/state-routes/sr-109What if something breaks down during my Taholah RV trip?
You are never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Moclips Highway, a dead battery at Lake Quinault, or a propane question at midnight is just one phone call away. Your host is a direct lifeline too, since they know their rig best and can usually troubleshoot quirks by phone or text. RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip if you need to escalate. Pro tip: cell coverage gets patchy between Taholah and Queets, so screenshot your booking confirmation, host contact, and the roadside assistance number before you leave Aberdeen.

An RV road trip from Taholah gives you instant access to some of the most dramatic coastline in North America. Top routes include the Olympic Peninsula Loop (Taholah to Forks to Port Angeles to Olympia, about 330 miles); the Hoh Rain Forest run (90 miles north on US-101 to walk among 300-foot Sitka spruce); a Mount Rainier extension (about 190 miles east, where you can camp at Cougar Rock); and a coastal cruise south to Long Beach (about 95 miles via Aberdeen). Cross-border trips into Canada are sometimes allowed if your host's insurance permits, just message them first. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: catch the sunset at Ruby Beach 50 miles up the coast, it is unforgettable.
nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/driving-tour-of-olympic.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Taholah RV rental?
Plan smart and fuel costs stay manageable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 MPG, Class A rigs get 7 to 10 MPG, and a truck-towed travel trailer typically pulls 10 to 13 MPG depending on the tow vehicle. Washington gas prices around Aberdeen and Hoquiam usually run a bit above the U.S. national average. The closest fuel stations to Taholah are in Moclips (about 8 miles south) and Amanda Park near Lake Quinault (about 25 miles east), so top off whenever you see a pump. Pro tip: fuel up in Aberdeen before heading north, prices are reliably lower than along the coastal route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Taholah?
Plan ahead and you will land the dreamiest spots. Washington State Parks like Pacific Beach and Ocean City open reservations up to nine months in advance through their online portal, and Olympic National Park sites such as Kalaloch open six months out on Recreation.gov. For Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends, book the moment the window opens at 7 a.m. Pacific time. Willaby and Falls Creek on Lake Quinault, managed by the U.S. Forest Service, also book six months ahead on Recreation.gov. Midweek summer trips and shoulder-season weekends often have same-week openings if you are flexible. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly nine months before your target Saturday at Pacific Beach State Park, oceanfront utility sites disappear within minutes.
parks.wa.gov/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Taholah?
Driving to Taholah is calm and scenic, which makes it perfect for an RV rental in Washington. State Route 109 from Hoquiam to Taholah is a paved two-lane highway with wide shoulders, gentle curves, and very little truck traffic. The main things to watch for are coastal fog in the early morning, occasional elk crossings between Copalis and Moclips, and brisk crosswinds on the open beach stretches, easy to manage if you keep speeds around 45 to 50 mph in a tall rig. Inside the Quinault Indian Reservation, posted limits drop to 35 mph through Taholah village, so ease off the throttle. Pro tip: avoid the road at dusk in autumn when blacktail deer are most active near Pacific Beach.
wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mapWhat amenities and dump stations do campgrounds near Taholah offer?
You will find full-service options within a short drive. Pacific Beach State Park (14 miles south) has 32 utility sites with water and 30/50-amp electric plus a dump station. Ocean City State Park (25 miles south) offers 29 full-hookup sites and a dump station open year-round. Kalaloch Campground (45 miles north) has potable water and a dump station but no hookups. Rain Forest Resort Village on Lake Quinault has 30-amp electric and water at every site. For fresh water top-ups and propane refills, the Quinault Mercantile in Amanda Park is your closest stop. Pro tip: dump tanks before heading deep into the reservation since there are no public dump stations directly in Taholah, only down the coast.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/ocean-city-state-parkWhat features and amenities come standard in a Taholah RV rental?
More creature comforts than you might expect. A typical campervan rental Taholah or motorhome on RVezy comes with real beds (queen or king in larger rigs), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, hot and cold running water, a bathroom with shower and toilet, furnace and air conditioning, and dinette seating with seatbelts. Many also include a generator for boondocking on the coast, solar panels, outdoor speakers, and awnings for sunny afternoons. Wi-Fi hotspots are sometimes offered as an add-on, but expect spotty service north of Moclips regardless. Pro tip: filter for a generator-equipped rig if you plan to dry-camp at Kalaloch, where there are no electrical hookups but plenty of breathtaking ocean overlooks.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Taholah,%20WashingtonWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with a Taholah RV rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Taholah, WA include camp chairs and table kits, kitchen and linen packages, bike racks, generators, propane fire pits, and prepaid propane refills. Pet cleaning fees usually run $50 to $100 if you bring a dog. For pickup, you can grab the RV at the host's home base in Aberdeen, Hoquiam, or Ocean Shores, or pay a per-mile delivery fee to bring it straight to your campsite near Taholah. Most hosts price delivery between $2 and $4 per mile from their home base. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a starter propane tank into one package for a true turnkey arrival.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Taholah,%20WashingtonHow do payments and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully online. When you book your RV rental in Taholah, WA you pay through the secure RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig, and released back to you after drop-off as long as the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid deductions, take time-stamped photos at pickup and return, follow the host's mileage and generator-hour policies, and dump your tanks at Pacific Beach or Ocean City State Park before returning. Pro tip: keep gas receipts so you can prove the tank was refilled.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksShould I be ready for cold and wet weather on my Taholah RV trip?
Yes, and your RV will handle it beautifully. Taholah sits in one of the wettest temperate rainforests on Earth, so even summer evenings cool into the 50s°F and rain showers can pop up any month. Most RVezy rigs in this region come equipped with propane furnaces, insulated cabins, and heated holding tanks, perfect for storm-watching season from November through March when Pacific gales make the surf at nearby Kalaloch downright cinematic. Look for listings with shore-power capability so you can plug in at Pacific Beach State Park or Rain Forest Resort Village for unlimited electric heat. Pro tip: pack waterproof boots, a warm beanie, and a thermos, because watching winter waves crash from a cozy RV with hot cocoa in hand is a Pacific Northwest rite of passage.
