Camping near Union Hill-Novelty Hill
Union Hill-Novelty Hill is an unincorporated community on the Sammamish Plateau in King County, east of Redmond and a short drive from Bellevue, Issaquah, and the Snoqualmie Valley. RV travelers use it as a quiet base for visiting Seattle metro attractions while staying close to Cascade foothills recreation. The area sits between Lake Sammamish to the south and the agricultural Snoqualmie River valley to the east, with Interstate 90 and State Route 520 providing the main access routes for larger rigs.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate market because King County has limited public campgrounds inside the urban growth boundary. Tall Chief RV Resort sits in Fall City to the southeast, offering wooded sites near Snoqualmie Falls. Vasa Park Resort fronts Lake Sammamish in Bellevue with beach access. Issaquah Village RV Park and Trailer Inns RV Park are utilitarian, full-hookup options close to I-90, and Blue Sky RV Park rounds out the cluster of nearby private options.
Most guests combine urban day trips with hikes at Tiger Mountain, Cougar Mountain, or along the Snoqualmie Valley Trail.
Things to do near Union Hill-Novelty Hill
Snoqualmie Falls is the most-visited attraction in the area, with a paved overlook and a lower trail to the river. Lake Sammamish State Park, just south in Issaquah, has swim beaches, boat launches, and miles of paved trail along the lake. The Burke-Gilman and East Lake Sammamish trails connect Redmond, Issaquah, and Bothell for cyclists.
Families often add the Cougar Mountain Zoo, Remlinger Farms in Carnation, and the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie. Tiger Mountain State Forest, Rattlesnake Ledge, and Mount Si offer day hikes within thirty minutes. Seattle attractions, including Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the Museum of Flight, are reachable in roughly thirty to forty-five minutes outside rush hour. Wineries and tasting rooms in Woodinville sit a short drive north.

July averages roughly ten hours of sunshine per day, making it the peak for beach and trail use.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with mild temperatures and more availability midweek. The area sees well over a hundred rainy days per year, with light snowfall possible from November through March at valley elevations. Snoqualmie Pass and higher Cascade trails can stay snowbound into May.
Late fall and winter bring steady rain rather than extreme cold. November is the wettest month, and several private parks remain open year-round for travelers willing to trade outdoor time for low crowds and easier reservations.

Booking and reservations
Most private parks near Union Hill-Novelty Hill take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Vasa Park Resort handles bookings through its own site, while Tall Chief RV Resort books through the Thousand Trails and Encore network with both nightly and member rates. Issaquah Village RV Park and Trailer Inns RV Park accept direct bookings and host a mix of overnight and longer-stay guests.
For public campgrounds in the broader region, Washington State Parks reservations open up to nine months in advance of the first date of a trip through washington.goingtocamp.com. Waterfront, full-hookup, and premium sites are often booked almost immediately for summer weekends and holidays, so set a reminder for the day your window opens.
What to expect at area campgrounds
Sites near Union Hill-Novelty Hill range from wooded resort-style layouts to urban parking-lot configurations close to I-90. Tall Chief RV Resort does not have individual sewer hookups; a scheduled honey-wagon service runs on set pump days, and an on-site dump station is available. Issaquah Village RV Park offers 56 full-hookup sites with 30/50 amp service, pull-throughs, room for slide-outs, and a 24-hour coin laundry.
Expect freeway noise at parks bordering I-90 and tight spacing at the urban options. Lakeside and forested sites trade hookups for setting. Cell service is generally strong across the plateau, and grocery, fuel, and propane are easy to reach in Issaquah, Redmond, and Sammamish. Book early for summer; midweek availability is much better than weekends.

Washington does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans booked through RVezy. Approved renters on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and your identity is verified securely through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my RV rental?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Union Hill-Novelty Hill comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real peace of mind without arranging separate coverage. You choose your level of coverage during checkout, not the host. If you get a flat on Highway 202 near Fall City or need a jump at a campground near Snoqualmie, one phone call dispatches help. That safety net is why so many first-timers feel confident booking their first Union Hill-Novelty Hill RV trip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy on every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out your trip is and circumstances like Cascade wildfire smoke or a sudden Snoqualmie Pass closure. Because the policy is managed by RVezy and not individual hosts, you'll get consistent treatment whether you're renting a campervan in Redmond or a fifth wheel headed for Mount Rainier. You can review the full policy in the RVezy Help Center before you book. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates, then relax knowing you have flexibility if life shifts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Union Hill-Novelty Hill?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Union Hill-Novelty Hill is easy to find. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Once you arrive, you have fantastic local options: Marymoor Park in Redmond has one of the largest off-leash dog areas in King County, and Tolt-MacDonald Park in Carnation allows leashed dogs on its riverside trails. Lake Sammamish State Park also welcomes pets on leash. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or size limits, and bring a towel since Pacific Northwest trails get muddy.
parks.wa.gov/know-before-you-go/park-rules/pets-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway?
Yes, RV delivery in Union Hill-Novelty Hill is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers nervous about driving a big rig through Redmond traffic. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV to your driveway, a nearby campground like Vasa Park Resort on Lake Sammamish, or Tolt-MacDonald Park in Carnation, then set it up and walk you through every system. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see which listings offer it and their delivery radius. Delivery fees typically scale with distance. Pro tip: book a delivered rig if you're heading to Snoqualmie Pass campgrounds without your own tow vehicle.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Union%20Hill-Novelty%20Hill%2C%20WashingtonHow far can I drive on a typical Union Hill-Novelty Hill RV trip?
You've got incredible range from Union Hill-Novelty Hill. Mount Rainier National Park's Sunrise entrance is about 95 miles south (roughly 2.5 hours), Olympic National Park's Hurricane Ridge is around 110 miles via the Edmonds-Kingston ferry, North Cascades National Park sits about 110 miles northeast, and Leavenworth's Bavarian village is 115 miles east over Stevens Pass. Many RVezy listings offer 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some hosts provide RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is a great pick for a multi-stop Washington loop. Pro tip: ask the host during booking about their mileage policy, since paying for extra miles up front is cheaper than overage fees later.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time-travel-informationWhere are the best campgrounds near Union Hill-Novelty Hill?
You're surrounded by excellent options for RV camping in Union Hill-Novelty Hill. Tolt-MacDonald Park in Carnation (about 10 miles east) has riverside RV sites along the Snoqualmie River with hookups, yurts, and cabins. Lake Pleasant RV Park in Bothell offers year-round full-hookup sites about 20 minutes away. Vasa Park Resort on Lake Sammamish in Bellevue has waterfront RV spots minutes from downtown. Lake Easton State Park, an hour east over Snoqualmie Pass, is a great gateway to the Cascades. Issaquah's Lake Sammamish State Park is also nearby for day use. Pro tip: book King County parks through their online reservation system and state parks through Washington State Parks up to nine months ahead for summer weekends.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/reservationsWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Union Hill-Novelty Hill?
The sweet spot is late June through mid-September, when Western Washington dries out and daytime temps in the Redmond area sit comfortably between 70 and 80°F with cool 50 to 60°F nights, perfect for campfires. July and August are the driest months and the best window for crossing Snoqualmie or Stevens Pass without weather worries. May, June, and September are smart shoulder-season picks: fewer crowds, lower rates, and lush green forests. Winter RV camping in Union Hill-Novelty Hill is absolutely doable too, with mild lowland temps (35 to 45°F) and snow-dusted mountains an hour away. Pro tip: book a heated, four-season rig for fall steelhead trips on the Snoqualmie River.
weather.gov/sew/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through driving tips, the propane and water systems, the awning, hookups, and dump procedures. From Union Hill-Novelty Hill, the roads east into the Snoqualmie Valley along Highway 202 and Novelty Hill Road are wide and rural, making them ideal for getting comfortable before any longer haul. Smaller campervan rental Union Hill-Novelty Hill options or Class B vans are also a low-stress way to start. Pro tip: practice a few right-hand turns and a parking-lot reverse at Redmond Town Center before hitting I-90, and you'll feel like a pro in an hour.
dol.wa.gov/driver-licenses-and-permits/new-drivers/safe-driving-tipsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat near Fall City, a dead battery at Lake Easton, or a mechanical issue cresting Snoqualmie Pass, one phone call dispatches help. The roadside team handles tows, tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Your host is also reachable as a first point of contact for quirks specific to their rig, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: take a quick phone photo of the RV's make, model, and license plate at pickup so you have everything ready if you ever need to call roadside, even from a spotty Cascades cell signal.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take an RV road trip from Union Hill-Novelty Hill into Canada?
Often yes, with a heads-up to your host first. Many RVezy hosts in the Union Hill-Novelty Hill area allow cross-border travel to British Columbia (Vancouver is about 145 miles north via I-5 and the Peace Arch crossing), but a few don't, and insurance arrangements differ. Message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm Canada is allowed. Mexico travel is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular RV road trips from Union Hill-Novelty Hill include the Olympic Peninsula loop, the North Cascades Highway (Hwy 20), the Mount Rainier circuit, and the Vancouver/Whistler run. Pro tip: bring your passport and arrive at the border before 9 a.m. to skip the worst lines.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Union Hill-Novelty Hill?
Easier to budget than you'd think. Most travel trailers and campervans get 12 to 18 miles per gallon, while larger Class A and Class C motorhome rentals near Union Hill-Novelty Hill average 7 to 10 mpg. Washington gas prices typically run higher than the national average, often $4.40 to $4.90 per gallon in the Redmond/Bellevue area. For a typical weekend loop to Mount Rainier (about 250 miles round trip), plan on roughly $90 to $160 in fuel for a Class C, or $50 to $80 for a campervan. Pro tip: fill up in Issaquah or North Bend before heading into the Cascades, since pump prices climb sharply at mountain-pass stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
For summer weekends, book early and you'll get exactly the site you want. Washington State Parks releases reservations on a nine-month rolling window through their official portal, and popular spots like Lake Easton, Wenatchee River, and Deception Pass fill within minutes of opening for July and August. King County parks (including Tolt-MacDonald) accept reservations a few months out. For shoulder-season or weekday trips, two to four weeks ahead is usually plenty. Pro tip: if you strike out at a state park, check Hipcamp and private parks like Lake Pleasant RV Park in Bothell or Vasa Park Resort in Bellevue, which often have last-minute openings even in peak season.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Union Hill-Novelty Hill?
Once you're east of I-405, driving gets noticeably easier. Union Hill-Novelty Hill sits on the rural plateau above Redmond, with rolling two-lane roads like Novelty Hill Road, Avondale, and Highway 202 that are RV-friendly. Avoid weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m.) on State Route 520 and I-405, where traffic backs up heavily. Heading east on I-90 to Snoqualmie Pass (about 3,022 feet), check WSDOT for chain or traction-tire requirements between November and March. Summer can bring occasional wildfire smoke from the Cascades. Pro tip: use the WSDOT mobile app for live pass cameras and travel times, especially before crossing Stevens Pass on Highway 2.
wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpassesWhat amenities do campgrounds near Union Hill-Novelty Hill offer?
You'll find a full range. Private parks like Lake Pleasant RV Park (Bothell) and Vasa Park Resort (Bellevue) offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, and showers. Washington State Parks such as Lake Sammamish and Lake Easton typically provide water and electric, with central dump stations rather than per-site sewer. Tolt-MacDonald Park in Carnation has electric hookups and potable water. For dumping and freshwater between trips, the Brown Bear Car Wash & RV Dump in Redmond and the dump station at Lake Sammamish State Park are reliable options. Pro tip: top off freshwater before leaving the Puget Sound lowlands, since some Cascade campgrounds shut their potable water seasonally.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/lake-sammamish-state-parkWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Union Hill-Novelty Hill?
More than you'd expect. A standard motorhome rental in Union Hill-Novelty Hill comes with sleeping for 4 to 8, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (furnace and roof A/C), and seatbelted seating for travel. Most hosts include cookware, dishes, linens, and towels, and many offer a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV, and a backup camera. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss in the Cascades, so plan to use your phone hotspot or download offline maps. Campervan rental Union Hill-Novelty Hill options are more compact but still include a bed, fridge, and small kitchen. Pro tip: review each listing's amenities list and add-ons before booking to match the rig to your trip style.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Plenty, and they make a family RV trip Union Hill-Novelty Hill much smoother. Common add-ons include linens and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor tables, propane fire pits, bike racks, generators, kayak/SUP racks, and kid/pet kits. Pickup is usually at the host's location around Redmond, Sammamish, Woodinville, or Carnation; many hosts also offer delivery to your home or campground. Mileage policies vary by listing (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some offering unlimited), and you'll see the exact policy and any add-on fees on the listing page before booking. Pro tip: bundle linens and a fire-pit rental for a quick stay at Tolt-MacDonald Park, where evenings get cool even in July.
redmond.gov/188/Parks-RecreationHow does payment and the security deposit work?
It's straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to a host. You'll pay your booking total (rental, fees, protection plan) by credit or debit card when you book. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup; the amount depends on the rig and the protection plan you chose at checkout. Assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff, noting tire condition, exterior dings, and generator hours, so any later questions are easy to resolve and your deposit returns quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park an RV overnight in the Union Hill-Novelty Hill area?
Yes, with the right spot. Overnight RV parking in residential Union Hill-Novelty Hill follows King County rules, so a driveway at your host's or a friend's home is fine, but street parking is limited and not ideal for big rigs. For overnight stays, head to a real campground: Vasa Park Resort (Bellevue), Lake Pleasant RV Park (Bothell), or Tolt-MacDonald Park (Carnation) are all within about 25 minutes. Washington safety rest areas along I-90 and I-5 permit free stops up to 8 hours, great for travel days. Pro tip: if you booked RV delivery, ask your host to set up at your campground so you skip the parking question entirely and start your trip relaxed.
