Camping near Accoville, West Virginia
Accoville sits in Logan County in the heart of southern West Virginia's coalfields, within easy reach of the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System. The Hatfield-McCoy network spans over 1,000 miles of trails across ten trail systems in southern West Virginia and is one of the largest off-highway vehicle trail systems in the world. Most RV parks in this corridor cater to riders, with trail-side hookups, permit sales, and community connectors into ATV-friendly towns.
Campground options range from full-service RV resorts to state park sites. Rockhouse RV Park and Twin Hollow Campground and Cabins sit close to trail access, while Devil Anse ATV Resort, LLC and Paradise Island of Christian, WV serve riders coming off Devil Anse and Rockhouse trailheads. For a more traditional park experience, Chief Logan State Park offers a wooded campground a short drive north of Accoville.
The small towns of Gilbert and Man are ATV-friendly communities, so riders are allowed to operate dirt bikes, UTVs, and ATVs from daylight to dark within town limits, letting guests ride from campground to trail without trailering.
Things to do near Accoville
Off-road riding dominates the itinerary here. The Devil Anse Trail System links to the Rockhouse and Buffalo Mountain systems, totaling over 300 miles of connected trails. All Hatfield-McCoy trails are marked, rated for difficulty, and open 365 days a year, and a permit is required to ride. Permits can be purchased at any Hatfield-McCoy trailhead, the Welcome Center, or at more than 180 authorized vendor locations.
Non-riders have options too. Chief Logan State Park features a swimming pool, mini-golf, paved sporting courts, hiking trails, a museum, and an outdoor amphitheater with seasonal programming. Fishing, hiking, and creekside picnicking round out the family-friendly side of the trip.

The riding season effectively runs year-round, but conditions vary sharply. The Logan area experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters and a strong seasonal contrast. Rainfall is spread fairly evenly through the year, though summer brings heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms, and winters see regular snowfall.
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel. Temperatures are moderate, humidity drops, and the hardwood ridgelines show wildflowers in April and color in October. Summer brings peak crowds, especially around National Trailfest weekends, when cabins and RV sites fill weeks ahead.
Winter riding is possible on dry days but expect mud, ice on shaded switchbacks, and reduced services in nearby towns. Some private campgrounds in the region operate year-round, while state park facilities and services can be more limited outside the spring-through-fall window. Chief Logan's campground is generally most active from spring through fall.
How to book campgrounds near Accoville
Chief Logan State Park uses the West Virginia State Parks reservation system. Campsites may be reserved online, by phone, or at the campground office. All sites are reservable, and reservations can be booked up to 12 months in advance. Reservations require no less than two consecutive nights on Friday and Saturday, or one night Sunday through Thursday.
Private resorts like Twin Hollow Campground and Cabins, Rockhouse RV Park, and Devil Anse ATV Resort, LLC book directly through their own websites or by phone. Cabins typically require a deposit at booking, so guests should confirm cancellation policies before locking in dates. Hatfield-McCoy trail permits are separate from lodging and can be added at check-in at authorized vendor campgrounds, including Twin Hollow.
What to expect on the ground
Expect winding two-lane approaches through steep hollows. Cell coverage is patchy on the ridgelines, so plan to download maps in advance. Roads to trail-side resorts often climb narrow gravel switchbacks, so drivers of longer rigs should confirm access with the campground before arrival.
Sites are a mix. Twin Hollow offers primitive camping, water-and-electric sites, and full-hookup sites, plus mountaintop cabins in several styles and a three-bedroom house rental. Chief Logan's campground has 26 units, with 14 offering full water, sewer, and electric hookups and 12 offering electric and water only, with hot showers at a central bathhouse.
Dogs are welcome at most parks on leash, though cabins commonly restrict pets. Trail dust, mud, and ATV noise are part of the experience at riding resorts.
