Campgrounds and RV parks near Despard, WV

Despard sits just east of Clarksburg in Harrison County, in the rolling hills of north-central West Virginia. The area works well as an RV base for exploring the Monongahela National Forest foothills, Tygart Valley, and the small towns strung along US 50 and I-79. Most RV travelers use Despard as a launch point rather than a destination, with drivable access to state parks, rivers, and lakes within roughly an hour. Close-in options include Fairmont Hills RV Park and Oakdale Village Mobile City, LLC, both suited to travelers who want full hookups and quick highway access. For a more traditional state-park experience, Tygart Lake State Park sits on a reservoir south of Grafton, and Audra State Park lines the Middle Fork River near Buckhannon. Kick Back N Camp rounds out the nearby private options, located near Belington and less than two miles from the Middle Fork River. Expect a mix of paved RV parks near town and wooded state-park loops within a short drive. Sites near the water fill first, especially on summer weekends, so book those early.

Booking rules differ between state parks and private RV parks. West Virginia State Parks accept reservations online at wvstateparks.com or by phone at 1-833-WV-PARKS, with campsites reservable up to twelve months in advance on a rolling basis. That window matters for holiday weekends at Tygart Lake and Audra, where riverside and lakeside sites go first. Private parks such as Fairmont Hills RV Park, Oakdale Village Mobile City, LLC, and Kick Back N Camp typically take direct bookings by phone or through their own websites. Call ahead to confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and pull-through availability, especially for larger Class A or fifth-wheel rentals. For summer holidays, plan to reserve state-park sites several months out; private parks often have more short-notice flexibility.
