Campgrounds and RV parks near Dupont City, WV

Dupont City is an unincorporated community in Kanawha County, West Virginia, sitting along the Kanawha River corridor southeast of Charleston. The area functions as a practical base for RV travellers exploring the Kanawha Valley, the Elk River, and the wider southern West Virginia recreation belt that stretches toward New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. Campground options within an easy drive lean toward small, family-run parks rather than large resorts. Lazy K's Campground and Canoe Livery in Elkview spans over 70 acres along the Elk River, sits about 12 miles from Charleston, and lies minutes from Interstate 79, with full-hookup RV sites, cabins, and river access. Little Coal River Campground and Cabin, in Julian, provides riverfront full-hookup sites with 20/30/50-amp service and is a common base for riders using the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. For trips centred on the gorge, New River Campground Inc. and Rifrafters Campground sit closer to Fayetteville, while Statts Mills RV Park serves travellers heading north toward Jackson County. Charleston itself supplies groceries, propane, RV service, and interstate access via I-64, I-77, and I-79.

Private campgrounds near Dupont City typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Lazy K's Campground and Canoe Livery, Little Coal River Campground and Cabin, New River Campground Inc., Statts Mills RV Park, and Rifrafters Campground each manage their own inventory, so booking windows and cancellation policies differ by property. Weekends from Memorial Day through mid-October fill fastest, especially for full-hookup pull-through sites. Campgrounds inside New River Gorge National Park and Preserve are primitive with no drinking water, no hookups, and limited restroom facilities. There are no camping fees, reservations are not available, and all sites are first-come, first-served, so a back-up plan is recommended in busy months. Group camping areas require a Special Use Permit, obtained by calling the park permit office.
