Camping near Man, West Virginia
Man sits in Logan County in southern West Virginia, along the Guyandotte River and at the doorstep of the Hatfield-McCoy Trails, one of the largest off-highway vehicle networks in the country. The Rockhouse Trail System connects directly to Man as an ATV-friendly town, meaning permitted machines can travel designated streets to reach fuel, food, and lodging. Most travelers who base an RV here are coming to ride.
Campground options range from purpose-built ATV parks with direct trail access to a traditional state park campground. Rockhouse RV Park sits about a mile from the Rockhouse Trailhead, Devil Anse ATV Resort, LLC and Twin Hollow Campground and Cabins target the ATV crowd with cabins and sites, and Paradise Island of Christian, WV rounds out the private options. Chief Logan State Park, a short drive north, offers a quieter campground with full and partial hookups inside a 4,000-acre park.
Expect narrow mountain roads, coal-country towns, and forested ridges rather than manicured resort scenery. Cell coverage is spotty in the hollows.
Things to do near Man
The main draw is the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. The Rockhouse, Devil Anse, and Buffalo Mountain systems interconnect and together total more than 300 miles of marked, difficulty-rated trails, open year-round during daylight hours. A paid trail permit is required for every rider and passenger, and a DOT or SNELL approved helmet plus eye protection are mandatory.
Non-riders have options too. Chief Logan State Park offers roughly 18 miles of hiking trails, a swimming pool with a waterslide, mini-golf, a wildlife exhibit with native species, a museum with rotating exhibits, and the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater, which stages outdoor performances in summer including The Aracoma Story.
History sits close to the surface here. The region carries the legacy of the Hatfield-McCoy feud, the Matewan Massacre, and the Battle of Blair Mountain, with interpretive stops woven through the surrounding towns.

Southern West Virginia has a humid subtropical climate with warm, humid summers and cold, wet winters. Rainfall is spread across the year, and summer often brings heavy afternoon thunderstorms that can leave trail sections muddy for a day or two. Peak riding season runs from spring through fall, with ridge color usually peaking in mid to late October.
Summer weekends and organized ATV events fill private ATV-park sites early, so booking well in advance is standard for June through October. Chief Logan State Park's campground is busiest in the same window, when the pool, amphitheater, and picnic areas are all active.
Winter riding is possible because the Hatfield-McCoy Trails stay open every day of the year, but expect cold rain, snow, ice, and mud. Chief Logan State Park's campground typically operates from March through November, while Rockhouse RV Park advertises year-round operation and offers long-term rates from November through February. Confirm winter hookups and bathhouse availability directly with the operator before arriving.
How to book a site
Private campgrounds around Man, including Rockhouse RV Park, Twin Hollow Campground and Cabins, Devil Anse ATV Resort, LLC, and Paradise Island of Christian, WV, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For holiday weekends and major ATV events, book several months out; single weekends in shoulder season are usually easier.
Chief Logan State Park uses the West Virginia State Parks reservation system through CampLife, and sites can be booked up to 12 months in advance. Reservations are also available by phone or at the campground office.
A separate Hatfield-McCoy trail permit is required to ride and is sold online, at trailhead facilities, at the trails welcome center, or through more than 180 authorized vendors. Buying it before the trip saves time at the trailhead.
What to expect on the ground
The landscape is steep, wooded Appalachian ridgeline cut by narrow hollows. Access roads into private campgrounds can be tight, winding, and graded; larger motorhomes and long trailers should confirm site length and turning access before booking. Chief Logan State Park's campground has 26 sites, with 14 offering full hookups and 12 with water and electric only, served by a centrally located bathhouse with hot showers.
Most private parks cater specifically to ATV and UTV travelers, so expect trailer parking, wash areas, and neighbors coming and going with machines. Trailhead facilities keep daylight hours, and trails close at dark.
Cell service is inconsistent in the hollows and on the trails. Download offline trail maps, carry a paper backup, and plan fuel stops in advance. Groceries and full-service stores are limited in Man itself; larger supply runs are easier in Logan or Williamson.

nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Man, WV?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your Man, WV RV trip budget, so plan smart. Class C motorhomes typically get 8-10 mpg, travel trailers pulled by a half-ton truck land around 10-13 mpg, and campervans can reach 16-20 mpg. West Virginia gas prices usually sit slightly below the national average, and you'll find the best fill-up rates at the Sheetz in Logan or Go-Mart in Chapmanville rather than smaller stations along Route 10. For a typical 3-night trip running the Rockhouse, Devil Anse, and Buffalo Mountain trails, budget $120-$200 in fuel. Top off before turning onto the smaller mountain roads, stations get sparse fast.

Private parks like Rockhouse RV Park, Ashland Resort, and Twin Hollow take direct bookings on their websites. wvstateparks.com/park/chief-logan-state-park/What are local driving conditions like around Man, WV?

Stick to these for any rig over 25 feet and avoid the narrow secondary hollers like Buffalo Creek Road during peak coal-truck hours (typically 6-9 AM and 3-6 PM weekdays). Cell signal drops in the valleys, so download offline maps before heading out. Winter occasionally brings ice, but main routes are plowed promptly.
