Campgrounds and RV parks near Marlinton, WV

The 78-mile Greenbrier River Trail runs directly through Marlinton, drawing cyclists, walkers, and paddlers. Watoga State Park adds hiking, an 11-acre lake for fishing, and a swimming pool. The Highland Scenic Highway offers overlooks accessible by RV, and the Cranberry Glades Botanical Area lies within an easy drive. Snowshoe Mountain Resort operates lift-served mountain biking and downhill trails in summer and ski terrain from late November through early April. The Cass Scenic Railroad runs restored steam trains from Cass, and the Green Bank Observatory offers public tours inside the National Radio Quiet Zone, where radio transmissions are intentionally limited.

Watoga State Park campgrounds are open spring through fall, weather permitting, with Riverside typically running from early April into late December. Most Monongahela National Forest campgrounds and East Fork Campground follow a similar April through October window. Snowshoe Mountain Resort supports winter camping demand around ski season, which matters for RV travelers targeting the colder months. Summer is peak: sites at Watoga, Boyer Station, and Douthat State Park fill quickly, particularly around holiday weekends and in July. Fall brings strong leaf color through the Greenbrier corridor and along the Highland Scenic Highway, usually cresting in mid-October, and weekend sites remain in high demand. Winter narrows options sharply. Snowshoe Resort drives lodging demand from late November through early April, while most state park and national forest campgrounds are closed or limited. Spring can bring high water on the Greenbrier and its forks, and the low-water bridge into Douthat's White Oak Campground occasionally floods.

Sites in this region tend to be wooded, spacious, and shaded, with gravel or grass pads. Full hookups are common at private campgrounds like Boyer Station, while state park sites at Watoga's Riverside typically offer 30-amp electric only, with water fill and a dump station elsewhere in the park. Douthat's White Oak has 31 sites with water and 30-amp service, a dump station, and a maximum RV length of 40 feet. Cell service is unreliable across much of Pocahontas County, and radio transmissions are intentionally restricted around the Green Bank Observatory. RV travelers should download maps and reservation confirmations before arriving. Roads are winding and mountainous, and the low-water bridge into White Oak can be tight for larger rigs.
