Camping near Milton, West Virginia
Milton sits along I-64 in Cabell County, roughly halfway between Huntington and Charleston. The town is a practical base for RV travellers heading into southwestern West Virginia, with quick interstate access, full-service grocery and fuel stops, and short drives to lake, river, and mountain campgrounds.
Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday is located in Milton, about 20 minutes from Huntington and 30 minutes from Charleston, and it works well as a first-night stop or a longer stay. Beech Fork State Park sits south of Huntington and Barboursville in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains around Beech Fork Lake, and it offers the largest concentration of public campsites in the area with 275 sites across four campground areas.
Farther out, Little Coal River Campground and Cabin near Julian gives riders access to Hatfield-McCoy ATV trails, Chief Logan State Park anchors the southern coalfields four miles north of Logan, and the seasonal Mothman Festival Campground in Point Pleasant covers the September festival crowd.
Things to do around Milton
Beech Fork Lake is a managed warmwater fishery stocked by the WVDNR, with bass, bluegill, and other sport fish drawing anglers to the shoreline and boat ramps. The park adds a swimming pool complex, a paved fitness trail, roughly 27 miles of trails across about 20 routes, and playgrounds suited to families with kids on bikes.
Chief Logan State Park sits four miles north of Logan in the heart of West Virginia's southern coalfields and is located within close proximity to the Hatfield-McCoy ATV trails. Little Coal River Campground and Cabin is another common staging point for ATV riders working the same trail network.
In town, Milton is known for Blenko Glass tours and the Milton Flea Market. Point Pleasant, about an hour north, adds the Mothman Museum and Ohio River waterfront.

The main camping season runs mid-spring through late fall. At Beech Fork State Park, Old Orchard Campground is open year-round with full hookups, while Moxley Branch and Four Coves run mid-April through mid-October, so shoulder-season RV travellers should plan around Old Orchard for winter stays. Four Coves and Lakeview are 30-amp electric only, and Old Orchard offers 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service with water and sewer.
Summer brings warm, humid weather and the busiest bookings, particularly on holiday weekends. At the Huntington / Fox Fire KOA, designated holidays include Memorial Day weekend, Independence Day weekend, Labor Day weekend, and all weekends in October for Spooktacular events, and those dates fill first.
Fall is peak leaf-peeping in the Appalachians, with cool nights and lower humidity. The Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant is held on the third weekend of September, so any campground within an hour of Point Pleasant, including the Mothman Festival Campground, books out well in advance for that weekend.
How to book campgrounds near Milton
West Virginia State Parks use a central reservation system. Campsites at Beech Fork may be reserved online, by phone, or at the campground office up to one year in advance, with lakefront and full-hookup sites tending to go first. Weekend stays generally require a two-night minimum on Friday and Saturday. Chief Logan State Park accepts reservations for its 26 sites through the same system.
Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday books directly through KOA. Holiday reservations may not be changed, and holiday reservation cancellations are non-refundable, so lock in dates only when plans are firm.
Private parks such as Little Coal River Campground and Cabin and Mothman Festival Campground take reservations directly through the operator by phone or website.
What to expect on the ground
Expect Appalachian foothill terrain, mixed hardwood forest, and narrow approach roads on some park entrances. Creek-side sites can flood during heavy rains while ridge-top sites stay cooler but involve navigating tighter mountain roads, so larger rigs should confirm site length before booking.
Hookup levels vary. Chief Logan State Park's campground offers 26 units, 14 with full water, sewer, and electric hookups and 12 with electric and water only, and hot showers are available at a centrally located bathhouse. At Beech Fork, only Old Orchard has full hookups; the other campgrounds are electric or non-electric. Cell service is limited in some of the state park areas, so download maps and reservations in advance.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Milton%2C%20West%20VirginiaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Milton, West Virginia?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Milton for any motorhome or trailer under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every rig on RVezy. West Virginia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RV use. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there's no extra DMV trip. Visiting from another country? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club before you fly in. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how simple the paperwork really is.

Booking an RV rental in Milton is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and every reservation includes a grace-period window where you can cancel for a full refund shortly after booking. Beyond that, refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. If your host cancels, RVezy refunds you or provides credits so you are not left stranded. Because the policy is handled at the platform level, you will not see different policies on different listings. Pro tip: book early to lock in your favorite rig, knowing flexibility is built in.

Just filter for Delivery on RVezy and check each listing for the delivery radius and per-mile fee. Pro tip: delivery is especially smart for the WV Pumpkin Festival in October when parking gets tight, your host handles the tricky setup so you can walk straight into the fun.

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so it helps to plan ahead. Most Class C motorhomes around Milton get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers towed by a truck average 10 to 14 MPG, and campervans can hit 16 to 20 MPG. West Virginia gas prices tend to run slightly below the national average, and there are convenient fill-ups right off I-64 at the Milton (Exit 28) and Barboursville (Exit 20) exits. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $100 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: top off at Sheetz or Speedway in Barboursville before heading east, prices climb noticeably once you get into the mountains toward New River Gorge.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Milton?
For peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day, plus the WV Pumpkin Festival weekend in early October), book campgrounds 3 to 6 months ahead. The Huntington/Fox Fire KOA and Jim's RV Park can sometimes be booked 4 to 8 weeks out for shoulder season. Outside summer, even 1 to 2 weeks ahead often works. Pro tip: if you strike out on Beech Fork, set a cancellation alert, sites open up regularly as plans change and you can grab a lakeside spot at the last minute.
wvstateparks.com/What are driving conditions like around Milton, WV?

US Route 60 is the main local artery and handles big rigs easily. Once you head east toward Charleston or south toward New River Gorge, expect curvier mountain roads with some 6 to 7 percent grades, take it slow and use lower gears on descents. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially on rural stretches near Beech Fork. Winter occasionally brings ice on bridges. Pro tip: avoid the narrow back roads through Cabell County hollows in a Class A or large fifth wheel, stick to I-64, US-60, and state highways for an easy, low-stress drive.

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. Pro tip: book at least a week ahead so the hold posts and clears smoothly before your trip starts.
