Campgrounds and RV parks near New Haven, WV

New Haven sits in Mason County along the Ohio River in western West Virginia, roughly nine miles upriver from Point Pleasant. The area is rural and hilly, with the river forming the state line and a cluster of Ohio state parks within an easy drive. RV travelers typically base here to combine river-valley camping with day trips into the Appalachian foothills of southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia. Options range from full-hookup private resorts to rustic state-park loops. Kountry Resort Campground sits across the river in Meigs County, Ohio, with full hookups and family amenities. Mothman Festival Campground at the Mason County Fairgrounds in Point Pleasant fills around the September festival weekend. Forked Run State Park, north of New Haven on the Ohio side, offers electric and non-electric sites on ridges above a small lake. Carthage Gap Campground near Coolville, Ohio, runs a seasonal full-hookup operation. Strouds Run State Park, near Athens, Ohio, adds a more remote, lake-and-forest setting about an hour inland.

Reservation systems vary by operator. Ohio state parks, including Forked Run State Park, take reservations up to six months in advance online through the Ohio State Parks reservation portal or by phone at (866) 644-6727. Strouds Run State Park is run by a concessionaire rather than the central state system; the campground takes its own reservations by phone and keeps standard sites first-come, first-served, with reservations recommended for cabins and the group camp. Private parks like Kountry Resort Campground and Carthage Gap Campground take direct bookings through their websites or by phone, and Carthage Gap operates seasonally from spring through late October. Mothman Festival Campground bookings open through the Mason County Fair organizers and sell out quickly for the September festival weekend, so reserve as early as possible if traveling for that event.
