Campgrounds near Arena, Wisconsin
Arena sits on the Lower Wisconsin River in Iowa County, within the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin. The village is a practical base for RV travelers because it puts several state parks, private river resorts, and the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway within a short drive. Madison lies roughly an hour to the east, and Spring Green is minutes to the west.
The closest public option is Tower Hill State Park, a small campground tucked into wooded bluffs above the Wisconsin River near Spring Green, with non-electric sites, vault toilets, and seasonal drinking water. For RV travelers who need hookups, Blue Mound State Park offers electrical hookups (30-amp and 50-amp), water hookups, a dump station, toilets, and showers, making it comfortable for RVs of all sizes including big rigs with pull-through sites available, and Governor Dodge has 269 standard campsites in Twin Valley and Cox Hollow campgrounds, with electrical hookups at 80 sites, showers in the Twin Valley and Cox Hollow restroom buildings, and trailer dumping stations in both campgrounds.
On the private side, Wisconsin Riverside Resort, Inc. and Buddy's River Resort both sit on the Wisconsin River and cater to families with hookup RV sites and river access.
Things to do near Arena
The Wisconsin River is the region's main draw. Wisconsin Riverside Resort offers canoe, tube and kayak trips on the Wisconsin River, a swim pool and splash pad, and Liza's Lagoon, a swimming pond complete with slide, trampoline, and other fun inflatables. Buddy's River Resort offers river access for fishing, boating, kayaking, and tubing.
Inland, the state parks anchor the hiking and biking. Governor Dodge State Park covers 5,350 acres of nature with two lakes, a waterfall, bluffs, and valleys, offering hiking, swimming, fishing, and horseback riding. Blue Mound has over 20 miles of trails winding through scenic terrain and connects directly to the Military Ridge State Trail, a popular multi-use path stretching across southwestern Wisconsin. Tower Hill State Park adds bluff trails, a historic shot tower, and a canoe landing on the Wisconsin River.

The RV season here is short. Most area campgrounds run from mid-April through mid-October. Private resorts follow this window: Wisconsin Riverside Resort's campground season is April 15 to October 15 (weather depending), and it accepts reservations one year in advance of the current date. Buddy's River Resort operates on a similar warm-season schedule.
State park water systems shut off well before winter. Water systems including shower buildings and flush toilets may not be running until May 15, and campgrounds may or may not be plowed in case of snow, so shoulder-season trips need onboard freshwater. A few state parks stay open in some form all winter: the Blue Mound campground is open year-round and offers 78 wooded sites, 12 bike/hike-in sites and a rustic accessible cabin, though only two electrical sites are plowed in the winter, and more than 30 campsites in the Twin Valley campground are available for winter campers, with a few of those sites plowed. Summer weekends fill fastest, and fall brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and color along the river bluffs before facilities close.

How to book campgrounds near Arena
Wisconsin state parks share one reservation system. Camping reservations can be made for the same day of arrival or up to 11 months before the planned occupancy date, and sites are reserved online through wisconsin.goingtocamp.com. This applies to Tower Hill State Park, Blue Mound State Park, and Twin Valley at Governor Dodge State Park. All motor vehicles stopping in state parks, forests or recreation areas must have a vehicle admission pass, which is separate from the site fee.
Private campgrounds book directly. Wisconsin Riverside Resort takes reservations up to a year out through its website, and current campers can make reservations 1 year in advance for the same site and same date or weekend of the following year, so prime riverfront sites turn over quickly. Buddy's River Resort books by phone or through its website.
What to expect
Expect a mix of rustic state park camping and full-service private resorts. Tower Hill is the smallest and most primitive, with non-electric sites, vault toilets, seasonal drinking water, and a fire ring and picnic table at each site. It suits smaller rigs and self-sufficient campers. Blue Mound and Twin Valley at Governor Dodge handle larger RVs, with showers, dump stations, and a share of electric sites; Twin Valley accommodates rigs up to 50 feet, with 5 pull-throughs and 78 electric-only sites at 30 amp. Bugs are a factor along the river, so screens and repellent belong in the rig. Cell coverage is generally usable but not universal in the bluffs and valleys, and quiet hours are enforced across the state park campgrounds.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Arena, WI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Arena, WI?
Rent an RV in Arena for less you might expect, especially compared to renting in big tourist hubs. On RVezy, a camper van or small travel trailer typically starts around $90 to $140 per night, while Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $295 per night, and larger Class A rigs trend higher. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can sort by price and look for weekly discounts that many Wisconsin owners offer. For a cheap RV rental Arena getaway, book midweek in May or September, when nightly rates and Lower Wisconsin State Riverway campsites are easier to grab. Pro tip: filter by Delivery to skip a tow vehicle and still hit Spring Green and Taliesin without driving the rig yourself.
travelwisconsin.com/south-central/iowa-county/arenaDo I need a special license to drive an RV rental in Arena, WI?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need for an RV rental in Arena, Wisconsin. The State of Wisconsin does not require a commercial driver's license or any special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, even larger Class A models. You will need to be at least 25 years old to book through RVezy and pass a quick ID verification on the platform, which takes just a few minutes. Visiting from overseas? Pair your home country license with an International Driving Permit, available for around $20 from your local auto club. Most first-time renters tell us the licensing piece was easier than they expected, so you can focus on planning that Wisconsin River sandbar stop.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/license-drvs/how-to-apply/rv-mtrhome.aspxWhat protection is included with my Arena RV rental?
Every RV rental in Arena, WI booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 14 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip, which means a stone chip on the way to Devil's Lake or a minor scrape at the Tower Hill State Park canoe landing won't blow up your budget. RVezy offers multiple protection tiers so you can choose the coverage level that fits your trip at checkout. Roadside assistance is bundled in, covering things like flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, and towing. Pro tip: review the included roadside benefits and your plan's deductible before you leave the driveway so you know exactly who to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my RV rental in Arena?
Booking is lower risk than you might think. RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental Wisconsin trip, and there's a money-back grace period right after you confirm so you can lock in plans without panic. After that, your refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will refund your booking or help you rebook so your trip stays on track. Your booking confirmation and the RVezy Help Center always show the most up-to-date cancellation terms for your reservation. Pro tip: book early to lock in the rig you want at Taliesin or American Players Theatre weekends, knowing the grace period has your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Arena RV trip?
Absolutely, and Arena is a great spot for it. Many RVezy hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental Arena travelers love, so just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see listings that welcome dogs (some hosts charge a small cleaning fee, which is shown up front). Once you arrive, the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway sandbars are dog paradise for leashed splashing on quiet stretches, and Tower Hill State Park allows leashed pets on its wooded trails. Governor Dodge State Park, about 25 minutes south, has a designated pet swim area on Cox Hollow Lake. Pro tip: pack a towel bin by the door, because river-mud paws are part of the Driftless Region experience.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Arena?
Yes, RV delivery Arena is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many RVezy hosts in the Madison and Spring Green area will deliver the rig directly to your campsite at Tower Hill State Park, Wisconsin Riverside Resort, or Blue Mound State Park, level it, hook it up to shore power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery is also perfect if you're flying into Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) in Madison, about 35 minutes east of Arena. Use the Delivery filter when you search to see hosts who offer this service and any per-mile fee. Pro tip: ask the host to demo the awning and water heater so you're set on night one.
travelwisconsin.com/south-central/iowa-county/arenaHow far can I drive on a typical Arena RV rental?
Plenty far to see the best of southern Wisconsin. Most RVezy hosts in the Arena area include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), with additional miles available at a clear per-mile rate, and some listings offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage if you want zero math on the road. From Arena, you're only 35 miles to Madison, 45 miles to Wisconsin Dells, 60 miles to Devil's Lake State Park, and about 110 miles to La Crosse along the Mississippi. Pro tip: if you're planning a bigger loop, message the host before booking and ask about a flat-rate mileage add-on for the week; many hosts in this region are happy to bundle it.
fhwa.dot.gov/policyinformation/travel_monitoring/tvt.cfmWhere should I camp during my Arena RV trip?
You're in one of Wisconsin's best camping corridors. Top picks for RV camping Arena travelers love include Tower Hill State Park (4 miles east, quiet wooded sites along the Wisconsin River), Wisconsin Riverside Resort in Spring Green (full hookups, mini golf, on the river), Blue Mound State Park (20 minutes south, the highest point in southern Wisconsin with electric sites), Governor Dodge State Park (full of hiking and two lakes, about 25 minutes southwest), and Lake of the Woods Campground near Wisconsin Dells for a more resort feel. Reserve Wisconsin state park sites up to 11 months in advance through the DNR reservation system at wisconsinstateparks.reserveamerica.com. Pro tip: book Tower Hill Friday-Saturday by March if you want a July or August weekend.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/towerhillWhen is the best time to take an Arena RV trip?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an Arena RV trip, with daytime highs from 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the Wisconsin River sandbars at their best. June kicks off the American Players Theatre season in Spring Green, July and August bring warm river floats (water temps in the mid-70s), and late September into early October explodes with Driftless Region fall color, often peaking the first two weeks of October. Winters here are genuinely cold, with January averages in the teens and snow on the ground, so most hosts pause bookings November through March. Pro tip: shoulder-season trips in May or late September give you cheaper rates, no mosquitoes, and quiet campgrounds.
weather.gov/mkx/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay?
You'll do great, especially in a low-stress area like Arena. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, water systems, slide-outs, propane, and dump procedures, and they're a text away during your trip if anything feels off. Highway 14 through Arena is a wide, flat two-lane that's friendly for first-time drivers, and you can ease into it before tackling anything bigger. Many first time renting an RV guests choose a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for easier handling. Pro tip: do a 10-minute parking-lot loop with your host before leaving, practice a right turn and a backup, and you'll feel confident hitting the road for Spring Green or House on the Rock.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rvsWhat happens if I have a problem on the road?
You're never on your own. Every Arena RV rental on RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, battery jumps, lockouts, and towing if something more serious happens. Cell service is solid along Highway 14, US-18, and I-90/I-94, the main routes you'll use around Arena, Madison, and the Dells. Beyond roadside, the RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip, and your host is usually a quick text away for quirks specific to their rig (like which switch runs the inverter). Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap a photo of your rig's VIN and license plate, that's the first thing they'll ask for.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhere can I go on an RV road trip from Arena?
Arena is a perfect launchpad. Popular routes for an RV road trip from Arena include the Great River Road north along the Mississippi to La Crosse and Trempealeau (about 2 hours), the Door County peninsula loop via Green Bay (4 hours each way, world-class cherry country and Lake Michigan shoreline), Wisconsin Dells for waterparks and Mirror Lake State Park (45 minutes), the Apostle Islands and Bayfield on Lake Superior (about 5.5 hours north), and a cross-state run to Chicago, Illinois (3 hours southeast). Crossing state lines into Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, or Michigan is generally allowed on RVezy bookings, just confirm with your host. Travel into Mexico is not permitted. Pro tip: a 5- to 7-night loop through La Crosse and back through the Dells is the classic Wisconsin RV trip.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/travel/road/default.aspxWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and your fuel budget will feel very manageable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A or fifth wheels usually land between 6 and 10 mpg. As of 2026, Wisconsin gas prices generally track near the national average, with regular unleaded around $3.10 to $3.50 per gallon at the Kwik Trips along Highway 14 (which are everywhere in this region and famously cheap). For a typical 300-mile Arena-to-Dells-to-Devil's-Lake loop in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: Kwik Trip stations in Arena, Mazomanie, and Spring Green have easy RV pull-throughs and clean restrooms, making them a no-stress fill-up stop.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Arena?
Sooner than you think, but it's very doable. Wisconsin State Parks open reservations up to 11 months in advance through the DNR's ReserveAmerica system, and the best campgrounds near Arena, like Tower Hill, Governor Dodge, Blue Mound, and Devil's Lake, often fill summer weekends (especially around July 4 and Labor Day) within weeks of opening. For private parks like Wisconsin Riverside Resort or Lake of the Woods, aim for 3 to 4 months ahead for peak weekends, less for weekdays. Pro tip: if a state park weekend is booked solid, grab a Sunday-Thursday stay instead, you'll often get a premium riverside loop site at Tower Hill with zero crowds and the same scenery.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/camping/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Arena?
Driving around Arena is about as RV-friendly as Wisconsin gets. Highway 14, the main artery through town, is a wide two-lane state highway with gentle grades through the Wisconsin River valley, and US-18/151 to Madison is a divided four-lane the whole way. The Driftless Region has rolling hills rather than steep mountain passes, so you won't be white-knuckling any climbs. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk (Iowa County has one of the higher deer-vehicle counts in the state), occasional Amish buggies on county roads south toward Hollandale, and winter ice from November through March. Pro tip: avoid downtown Madison and the State Street area in a large rig, instead, park at the Alliant Energy Center on the south side and ride in.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/travel/road/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Arena?
You'll find a great mix. Wisconsin State Parks near Arena, including Tower Hill, Blue Mound, and Governor Dodge, offer electric hookups (20/30/50 amp at many sites), potable water fill stations, vault or flush toilets, hot showers at most, and dump stations included with your stay. Private parks like Wisconsin Riverside Resort in Spring Green add full hookups (water, sewer, 50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, and a camp store. Cell signal is generally strong on Verizon and AT&T throughout the area. Pro tip: top off fresh water at Tower Hill's spigot before checking in if you're heading on to a primitive site, and the Mazomanie BP on Highway 14 has a public dump station available for a small fee on your way out of town.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/towerhillWhat's included inside a typical Arena RV rental?
More than you'd guess, and that's part of the magic. A typical motorhome rental Arena listing on RVezy comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4 to 8 people, climate control (furnace and roof A/C), and seatbelted travel seating that matches the sleeping count. Many rigs include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspots, starter cookware, bedding, and outdoor chairs, and Class A and C units often have an onboard generator for boondocking on a Wisconsin River sandbar. Each listing page shows exactly what's included with photos and a checklist. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps 6+ if you're doing a family RV trip Arena style with kids and grandparents, you'll get bunk-bed Class C models perfect for the job.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Arena%2C%20WisconsinCan I add things like a generator, bikes, or kitchen kit?
Yes, and the add-ons are part of what makes RVezy bookings so flexible. Hosts in the Arena and Spring Green area commonly offer extras like portable generators, bike racks and bikes (great for the 400 State Trail in Reedsburg/Elroy), kitchen and linen packages, outdoor grills, kayaks, and even camp setup kits with chairs and a firewood bundle. You'll see all add-ons and prices listed on each RV's page before you book. For pickup and dropoff, most Arena-area hosts meet you at their home base or offer delivery to your campground for a per-mile fee. Pro tip: bundle the kitchen kit and linens on your first trip, unpacking at Tower Hill at dusk is so much easier when everything's already in the rig.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Arena%2C%20WisconsinHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, so you'll never hand cash or a check to your host. When you book your RV rental in Arena, you'll pay your trip total by credit or debit card through the secure RVezy platform, with the booking total clearly itemized (nightly rate, fees, taxes, any add-ons). A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before pickup; the exact amount is shown on the listing and typically ranges from $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig. Assuming the RV comes back in the same condition with no extra mileage or generator hours, the hold is released within a few days. Pro tip: take a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, it's the easiest way to keep your deposit return drama-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Arena RV rental in winter, and is it set up for the cold?
Winter rentals are possible and can be magical in the Driftless Region, but availability is limited. Some RVezy hosts near Arena keep their rigs open November through March for ice fishing trips on Lake Wisconsin, snowshoeing at Governor Dodge, or holiday family gatherings; just filter your dates and you'll see what's available. Look for listings that mention heated and enclosed holding tanks, a four-season package, or shore-power-only operation, since overnight lows here can drop below zero Fahrenheit in January. Many winter renters plug into a campground 50-amp pedestal or a host's driveway hookup rather than relying on the freshwater tank. Pro tip: ask the host for their cold-weather checklist, antifreeze in the P-traps and a skirted underbelly turn a snowy weekend at Devil's Lake into a cozy adventure.
