Camping near Bluffview, Wisconsin
Bluffview is a small census-designated place in the town of Sumpter, Sauk County, with a North Freedom mailing address. It sits within a short drive of Devil's Lake State Park, Wisconsin's most visited state park, and the tourist corridor around Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells. The area is known for 500-foot quartzite bluffs, a 360-acre lake, and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
RV renters use Bluffview as a base for both public and private campgrounds. Devil's Lake State Park has three regular campgrounds with a total of 423 sites, including Northern Lights and Quartzite. Private options within a short drive include Skillet Creek Campground, Green Valley Campground, and Merry Macs Campground, which handle overflow when the state park books out.
Baraboo, roughly seven miles from Bluffview, provides groceries, fuel, laundromats, and RV supplies. Wisconsin Dells adds waterparks and family attractions about fifteen miles north, making the region a practical fit for RV travelers who want state-park scenery and town services in the same trip.
Things to do around Bluffview
Devil's Lake State Park anchors most itineraries. The park has 29 miles of trails ranging from easy shoreline paths to strenuous bluff climbs, plus swimming beaches on the north and south shores, rental kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards on the 360-acre lake, and 1,600+ rock climbing routes on the East and West Bluffs.
Off-park attractions include Dr. Evermor's Forevertron, a large scrap-metal sculpture near Bluffview, and the Circus World Museum and downtown shops in Baraboo. Devil's Lake sits along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, offering long-distance hiking segments.
Families often combine campground stays with day trips to Wisconsin Dells waterparks, roughly fifteen miles north, or to nearby Mirror Lake and Rocky Arbor state parks for quieter hiking and paddling.

Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day weekend through mid-October. Securing a campsite at Devil's Lake State Park has become significantly more competitive, especially on weekends and holidays from May through October. Booking eleven months out is the standard approach for prime dates.
Spring brings green-up, wildflowers, and cooler bluff hiking, but late spring can coincide with a lake-fly hatch that does not bite but can make the shoreline unpleasant for a couple of weeks. Fall delivers hardwood color across the bluffs, lighter crowds after Labor Day, and comfortable hiking temperatures through October.
Winter shrinks the options. At Devil's Lake, Quartzite campground is open year-round, while the Northern Lights and Ice Age campgrounds typically close in October and reopen around April. Winter camping at Quartzite runs with limited water and vault toilets. Dump stations are closed in the offseason to prevent freeze damage, usually from mid-October through mid-April, so cold-weather RVers need to plan for self-contained operation.

How to book campgrounds near Bluffview
All campsites at Devil's Lake are reservable. There are no walk-up or first-come, first-served sites. Reservations can be made for the same day of arrival or up to 11 months in advance, online or by calling 1-888-947-2757. A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission pass is required for every motor vehicle during a camping stay.
Minimum-stay rules apply in peak season: a minimum 2-night stay is required for family campsites reserved before May 15 for stays between May 15 and October 31, and holiday weekends require a minimum 3-night stay. Group sites cannot be booked online and must be arranged by calling the park office.
Private campgrounds near Bluffview, including Skillet Creek Campground, Green Valley Campground, and Merry Macs Campground, book directly through their own websites or by phone and are worth checking when state-park dates are full.
What RV renters should expect
Devil's Lake campsites are not within sight of the lake. Each site includes a picnic table, a gravel or paved area for parking, room for at least one family tent, and a metal fire ring. Sites at Quartzite generally allow the most maneuverability for RVs and trailers among the three campgrounds at Devil's Lake, with mostly open, back-in sites. Northern Lights offers a mix of wooded and open sites with 71 electric sites and a playground near site 140.
Hookups are limited inside the state park. Sites are either electric or non-electric, and there are no full-hookup sites; dump and fill stations are free for use by registered campers in season.
Cell service can be poor or nonexistent in parts of the park. Wisconsin State Parks have a carry-in, carry-out policy on trash, though some dumpsters in the campgrounds are available for use. Baraboo, a short drive from the park entrance, covers restocks and laundry.
