Campgrounds near Dellwood, Wisconsin
Dellwood sits in central Wisconsin's Adams County, within easy reach of Castle Rock Lake, the Wisconsin River, and the sandstone bluffs of the state's central sand country. The area offers a mix of state park camping, private lakefront resorts, and river-access RV parks, making it a practical base for families renting an RV for a weekend or a longer summer trip.
Buckhorn State Park covers more than 8,000 acres on a peninsula in the Castle Rock Flowage of the Wisconsin River, along with the connecting Yellow River, and it serves water enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, and nature lovers. Nearby, Roche-A-Cri State Park features a 300-foot rock outcropping with Native American petroglyphs and a wooden stairway to the top, along with more than 5 miles of hiking trails.
Private options round out the picture. Summer Hideaway RV Campground Resort LLC and Buckhorn Campground Resort serve travelers who want longer-stay amenities, and Point Bluff Resort sits on the banks of the Wisconsin River with riverside sites, electric and water hookups, restrooms, showers, and firewood sales.
Things to do near Dellwood
Water activities dominate the area. Castle Rock Lake supports boating, fishing, swimming, and paddling, with public launches inside Buckhorn State Park. Campers at Buckhorn can enjoy boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming from a marked sand-bottom beach, though the swim area has no lifeguards and children should be supervised.
On land, hiking and sightseeing are the main draws. Roche-A-Cri's petroglyphs are the only publicly accessible rock art site in Wisconsin, reached via more than 5 miles of trails and a wooden stairway to the top of the mound. Float trips, tubing, and paddling on the Wisconsin River are popular from Point Bluff Resort, which offers tubes, canoes, and kayaks and allows guests to launch directly from the campground.

The prime RV window in central Wisconsin runs from late May through early October. State park campgrounds open on different schedules: the family campground at Roche-A-Cri State Park runs from late spring through fall, while Buckhorn State Park keeps a handful of sites, including sites 8, 9, and 16, available year-round along Castle Rock Lake.
Summer brings warm days, active lakes, and heavy demand. Biting flies and mosquitoes tend to peak from mid to late summer, and many campers find that fall is more comfortable. September and October deliver cooler nights, oak-forest color, and quieter sites, making them a strong choice for RV renters who want to avoid crowds.
Winter closes most private resorts and limits state park amenities. Ice fishing continues on Castle Rock Lake, but showers and water systems are typically shut down, and access roads to rustic sites can be rough or snow-covered.

How to book campgrounds near Dellwood
Wisconsin state parks use a single reservation system operated by the Wisconsin DNR. Campsites at Buckhorn State Park and Roche-A-Cri State Park can be reserved online through the DNR portal or by calling 1-888-947-2757, up to 11 months before the arrival date. A Wisconsin State Park System vehicle admission pass is required for every vehicle in addition to the site fee.
Reservations are recommended because popular electric and waterfront sites fill on most summer weekends and holiday periods. Private resorts, including Summer Hideaway RV Campground Resort LLC, Buckhorn Campground Resort, and Point Bluff Resort, take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and peak-season weekends often sell out weeks or months ahead.
What to expect on-site near Dellwood
State park sites near Dellwood range from electric drive-in to rustic cart-in. Buckhorn has 69 family campsites plus a group camp, cart-in sites, and an accessible cabin, with a shower and toilet building and a dump station near the park office. Roche-A-Cri is more basic, with a small number of electric sites among mostly rustic sites, and its restrooms are pit toilets without running water or showers.
Private resorts along the Wisconsin River and Castle Rock Lake generally offer electric hookups, a central water source, dump stations, and river or beach access. Cell service is usable but not always strong. Firewood is commonly sold on-site, pets are typically welcome on leash, and sandy sites near the water may need leveling blocks.
