Campgrounds and RV parks near Mauston, WI

Mauston sits in Juneau County in central Wisconsin, just off Interstate 90/94 and roughly a half-hour drive north of the Wisconsin Dells. The area draws RV travelers because it combines easy interstate access with quick routes to Castle Rock Lake, the Wisconsin River, and thousands of acres of public land. Travelers heading north on I-90/94 from Madison typically exit at Mauston and follow State Highway 82 west to reach the lake and state park corridor. The closest anchor for public camping is Buckhorn State Park, a Wisconsin state park southeast of Necedah that occupies a peninsula on Castle Rock Lake, a reservoir formed at the confluence of the Wisconsin and Yellow rivers. Private options cluster along the same shoreline and county road corridor, including Buckhorn Campground Resort, Summer Hideaway RV Campground Resort LLC, Chapparal Campground And Resort, and Point Bluff Resort along the Wisconsin River. Together these campgrounds cover the full spectrum for RV renters: full-hookup private resorts with pools and Wi-Fi, and state park sites with electric hookups, a dump station, and direct water access.

Public sites at Buckhorn State Park are booked through the Wisconsin State Park System reservation portal. Reservations open up to 11 months before the arrival date, with new inventory released at 9 a.m. Central Time each morning. For family campsites, advance reservations booked before May 15 for stays between May 15 and October 31 require a minimum two-night stay, and a minimum three-night stay is required on holiday weekends. A Wisconsin state park vehicle admission sticker is required for every vehicle entering the park in addition to the campsite fee. Private resorts such as Buckhorn Campground Resort, Summer Hideaway RV Campground Resort LLC, Chapparal Campground And Resort, and Point Bluff Resort take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and typically require deposits for peak summer weekends.
