Campgrounds and RV parks near Oostburg, WI

The main draw is Lake Michigan. Kohler-Andrae State Park is known for majestic sand dunes, miles of golden beach, Lake Michigan water, whispering pines, and abundant wildlife. The Sanderling Nature Center at the north end of the park houses interactive exhibits on natural history and native flora and fauna, and kids can earn a Wisconsin Explorers patch. South of town, Harrington Beach State Park covers 715 acres and features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, restored wetland ponds, and a scenic limestone quarry lake, with camping, sunbathing, picnicking, hiking, bird watching, fishing, and monthly public viewings at the observatory. The mile-long beach frames Lake Michigan alongside a former limestone quarry-turned-lake. Inland, the Kettle Moraine State Forest offers hiking and mountain biking, and the Old Plank Road Trail is a popular 17-mile path that stretches from the City of Sheboygan to the village of Greenbush. Motorsport fans head to Elkhart Lake's Road America for race weekends and public karting.

The prime RV window runs from mid-May through mid-October. Beach conditions, full campground services, and stable weather line up in June, July, and August. Weekends in July and August book heavily at both state parks, and holiday weekends fill first. Bugs peak in early summer near wetlands and wooded loops. Shoulder seasons are strong for anyone who wants quieter sites. Late September and October bring cool nights, changing hardwoods along the Kettle Moraine, and lower demand. Harrington Beach's family campground is open from the first Wednesday in May into October, and during the warm weather season showers, flush toilets, and family shower rooms are available. Plymouth Rock Camping Resort operates seasonally from spring through mid-October. Winter camping is possible but limited. Kohler-Andrae's campground is open all year, and during the warm weather season showers, flush toilet and laundry facilities are available in the family campground. Family campsites 3, 15, 19, 22, 23, 28, 32, 33 and Group sites A and B are plowed for winter camping. Water and shower buildings shut down once temperatures drop.

State park sites are wooded and spread through paved loops. Each Kohler-Andrae campsite has a campfire ring and a picnic table, accommodates a limit of six people or one family plus two guests, and is limited to one wheeled camping unit and two vehicles parked on the paved drive. Expect vault or flush toilets depending on the loop, and plan on generator or battery use since campsites do not have water or sewer hookups, but a trailer dump station and a freshwater fill-up station are available in the park. Big-rig drivers should confirm site length in advance. Kohler-Andrae's campground sits behind the back dune along Lake Michigan and is very popular given its proximity to Milwaukee and Chicago, so electric-hookup sites should be reserved well ahead. Private resorts feel different. Plymouth Rock accommodates RVs with full electric, water, and sewer hookups and adds amenities including pools, mini golf, and outdoor activities. Sites near Road America draw noticeable noise from racing events, particularly on weekends.
