Campgrounds near Princeton, Wisconsin
Princeton sits in Green Lake County in central Wisconsin, on the Fox River just west of Green Lake, the deepest natural inland lake in the state. The area is a small-town base for RV travelers exploring lake country, with private resorts, city-run parks, and quieter woodland campgrounds all within a short drive of town.
Most RV options cluster around Green Lake and the chain of smaller lakes to the north. Lake Arrowhead Campground and Grand Valley Campground offer family-oriented sites in the surrounding countryside, while Green Lake Campground operates as a full-service resort with multiple pools, a 9-hole par-3 course, and on-site recreation. Hattie Sherwood Campground is a compact city park near the north shore of Green Lake with lake views and beach access.
Green Lake Conference Center-American Baptist Assembly rounds out the mix with lakeside grounds used for retreats and camping stays. Together these campgrounds put renters within easy reach of Princeton's antique district, the Fox River, and the swimming, boating, and fishing that define this part of Wisconsin.
Things to do near Princeton
Green Lake anchors most trip planning. Green Lake is Wisconsin's deepest inland lake, and public boat launches, marinas, and swim beaches ring the shoreline. Fishing for lake trout, walleye, smallmouth bass, and panfish is a major draw, and the Fox River through Princeton adds paddling and shore-fishing options.
On land, the City of Princeton hosts the long-running Princeton Flea Market on Saturdays during the warm months, drawing shoppers to the downtown antique district. Families staying at Green Lake Campground have access to four pools, a family pool, an adult-only pool, a splash park, and a sport pool, plus mini golf, a par-3 golf course, and a stocked pond.
Hattie Sherwood Campground offers a sandy swim beach, playground, and lake fishing steps from downtown Green Lake, and nearby trails, golf courses, and horseback riding round out day-trip options.

The Princeton camping season tracks Wisconsin's warm months. Most private and city campgrounds open in late April or May and close in October. Hattie Sherwood Campground is open May 1 through October 15, and other lake-area parks follow a similar window. Winter RV camping is essentially unavailable in this part of central Wisconsin.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm days, active lake use, and the highest demand for waterfront sites, so booking well ahead is important for weekends and holidays. The Princeton Flea Market season and Green Lake summer events also pull traffic into town.
Late spring and early fall are quieter alternatives. May and September deliver mild weather, fewer bugs than midsummer, and easier site availability, though nights can be cold. Fall color typically peaks in early to mid-October, overlapping with the end of the camping season and closing weekends at most parks.
How to book campgrounds near Princeton
Reservation systems vary by campground. Private resorts like Green Lake Campground, Lake Arrowhead Campground, and Grand Valley Campground take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and popular summer weekends often sell out weeks or months in advance.
Hattie Sherwood Campground is run by the City of Green Lake. Reservations are welcomed and recommended, a reservation may be modified or canceled until 14 days prior to arrival, and management reserves the right to reassign committed sites. Guests may stay for up to 9 consecutive days.
For RV renters, confirm site length, hookup type (20, 30, or 50 amp), and whether water and sewer are at the site before booking, as several area campgrounds offer electric-only sites with a shared dump station. No carry-in firewood is allowed at Hattie Sherwood; all firewood must be purchased on site, a common rule across Wisconsin campgrounds to limit invasive pests.
What to expect at Princeton-area campgrounds
Expect a mix of resort-style and simple lakeside camping. Green Lake Campground leans toward family resort with pools, mini golf, and organized activities. Lake Arrowhead Campground and Grand Valley Campground are more traditional wooded campgrounds, and Hattie Sherwood Campground is a compact city park with lake views.
Sites near Green Lake tend to be wooded and shaded, with mature hardwoods overhead. Some sites are not fully level, and parks are generally wooded and quiet, so bring leveling blocks and confirm site length for larger rigs. Cell coverage is generally usable but varies by carrier and site.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late May through August, especially near wetlands and the Fox River. Nights cool off quickly even in summer, so pack layers, and plan grocery and fuel stops in Princeton, Green Lake, or Berlin before settling in.
