Overview of campgrounds near Randolph
Randolph sits on the border of Dodge and Columbia counties in south-central Wisconsin, roughly a half-hour drive from Beaver Dam, Fond du Lac, and the western edge of the Horicon Marsh. The surrounding landscape is glacial farmland dotted with drumlins and small lakes, part of the Kettle Moraine and Ice Age geography that defines this corner of the state. RV renters use Randolph as a quiet base for wildlife-watching at Horicon, day trips to the Wisconsin Dells, and access to the Ice Age Trail corridor.
Most camping in the immediate area is at family-run private campgrounds rather than state parks. Silver Springs Campsites, Glacier Valley Campground, Shady Oaks Campground, Willow Mill Campsite LLC, and Grand Valley Campground are the closest options, each offering RV sites within a short drive of the village. Wisconsin State Park System campgrounds are reachable within about an hour for travelers who prefer public land.
The area suits families and slower-paced trips: short driving distances, plenty of lakes, and low-key small towns for supply runs.
Things to do near Randolph
Horicon Marsh anchors most trip plans. At more than 33,000 acres, Horicon Marsh is one of the largest freshwater marshes in the United States and is a critical rest stop for thousands of migrating ducks and Canada geese, and it is recognized as a Wetland of International Importance. Visitors can explore hiking trails through prairie, forest, and wetland habitats, including the mile-long Egret Trail with its floating boardwalk into the marsh, or follow the three-mile auto tour off Highway 49 for an easy driving loop.
A six-and-a-half-mile paddling trail runs through the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area, traveling downstream through the marsh and into the Rock River, with views of bald eagles, great blue herons, and other wetland birds. Anglers fish local lakes like Fox Lake and Beaver Dam Lake, while cyclists ride the Wild Goose State Trail along the marsh's west edge. Wisconsin Dells is about an hour west with waterparks and boat tours on the Wisconsin River.

Camping season in the Randolph area runs roughly from mid-April through mid-October, mirroring the pattern at many nearby private parks. Winters are long and cold: in Randolph, the summers are long, warm, and wet; the winters are freezing, snowy, and windy, and most private campgrounds close outside the frost-free months.
Spring brings the first big wildlife draw. Migrating waterfowl move through Horicon Marsh in large numbers, and the three-mile auto tour opens to vehicles March 16 and closes to vehicles the day before deer gun season in late November, weather conditions permitting. Summer is peak booking season, with warm days, afternoon thunderstorms, and busy weekends across the private campgrounds closest to Randolph.
Fall is arguably the marquee season: cooler nights, fewer mosquitoes, and another wave of ducks, geese, and sandhill cranes staging on the marsh before heading south. Fall migration on the refuge offers impressive numbers of Canada geese, ducks and sandhill cranes. Late-fall campers should watch closures tied to deer gun season on refuge and state wildlife-area roads.

Booking an RV site near Randolph
Private campgrounds around Randolph, including Silver Springs Campsites, Glacier Valley Campground, Shady Oaks Campground, Willow Mill Campsite LLC, and Grand Valley Campground, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Summer weekends and holiday periods fill first, so booking several weeks ahead is prudent, and longer stays typically need to be arranged directly with the operator.
For Wisconsin State Park System campgrounds within day-trip range, reservations run through the Wisconsin Going to Camp platform. Reservations can be made up to 11 months before the start date of your reservation, and campsite availability for the date 11 months away becomes available at 9 a.m. Central Time for both Internet and telephone customers. Standard campsites at all state parks, forests and recreation areas are completely reservable, and there are no non-reservable first-come, first-served standard campsites. A vehicle admission pass is required for any motor vehicles brought into the property.
What to expect
Expect a rural, agricultural setting: two-lane county highways, dairy farms, and small villages rather than resort-scale infrastructure. The private campgrounds closest to Randolph tend to be family-owned, with a mix of seasonal and transient RV sites, basic hookups, and simple amenities like camp stores, playgrounds, and swimming areas. Cell coverage is generally reliable but can be uneven near the marsh.
RV renters should plan grocery and fuel stops in Beaver Dam, Waupun, or Columbus, which have full-size supermarkets and truck-friendly stations. Larger big-box shopping is in Fond du Lac and Madison.
Insects are a real factor near wetlands from late spring through August, so bring repellent and screens. Horicon Marsh has approximately 5 miles of hiking trails through forest, prairie, and wetland habitats, and dogs are allowed on trails but must be on a leash.

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Randolph, WI. Wisconsin does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and travel trailers listed on RVezy, even for larger Class A rigs. You'll need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver, and ID verification happens right through the RVezy platform during booking, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Fall is genuinely magical here because Horicon Marsh hosts one of North America's largest Canada goose migrations from mid-September through October, with hundreds of thousands of birds staging on the marsh. Winter RV trips are possible at year-round Wisconsin DNR campgrounds, but expect lows well below freezing and plan for a winterized rig.
weather.gov/mkx/I have never driven an RV before. How will I know what to do?
First time renting an RV in Randolph? You are in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at your delivery location), walking you through driving, propane, water systems, the generator, slide-outs, and dump procedures so nothing feels like a mystery. You can also message your host directly through the listing before booking to ask anything, from how it handles in crosswinds to what is the easiest local route. Randolph's flat rural roads and the gentle drive up Highway 73 toward the Dells make this area especially friendly for first-timers. Add 24/7 roadside assistance and an RVezy support team behind you, and confidence comes built-in.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/safety-eng/safe-drivers/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are never alone out there. Every RV rental in Randolph, WI booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering common headaches like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something mechanical pops up, contact roadside assistance first, then loop in your host through RVezy in-app messaging. The RVezy support team is also available before, during, and after every trip to help sort logistics. Pro tip: snap a photo of your RV's VIN, plate, and propane setup at pickup and save your host's contact info offline, because cell coverage can dip in pockets of rural Dodge and Columbia counties.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, and Randolph is a great launchpad for a multi-state RV road trip from Randolph. Popular routes include the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (about 4 hours north), Chicago and Lake Michigan beaches (roughly 2.5 hours south), the Mississippi River Great River Road through Minnesota and Iowa (about 3 hours west), and Door County (around 2.5 hours northeast). Canada trips may be allowed depending on the host's insurance, so message the owner first to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. Once you have a green light, just make sure your passport is current for any cross-border adventures.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas costs should I budget for?
Most motorhomes you will rent in Randolph average between 8 and 12 miles per gallon, while smaller campervans can hit 15 to 20 mpg and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Wisconsin gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and you will find plenty of large fuel stations with RV-friendly pumps along I-39, I-90/94, and Highway 151. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Beaver Dam or Columbus before heading into the Dells, where tourist-area pumps tend to cost more per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
For the best campgrounds near Randolph, plan to reserve 3 to 5 months ahead for summer weekends and holidays, and 1 to 2 months ahead for shoulder season. Wisconsin DNR sites are 100% reservable up to 11 months in advance through wisconsin.goingtocamp.com (or by calling 1-888-947-2757), and popular parks like Devil's Lake and Mirror Lake fill quickly. Private parks like Yogi Bear's Jellystone in the Wisconsin Dells take reservations directly through their websites. Pro tip: set an availability alert through the DNR site for sold-out weekends because cancellations happen often, and you can scoop up a riverfront or electric site days before your trip.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat are the local driving conditions like around Randolph?
Driving an RV around Randolph is refreshingly easy. The area is dotted with flat farmland, gentle hills, and well-maintained two-lane highways like WI-73 and US-151, with very little traffic outside of weekend Dells crowds on I-90/94. Watch for occasional farm equipment on rural roads in spring and fall, and slow down for deer at dawn and dusk, especially near Horicon Marsh. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so most renters stick to May through October. Pro tip: if you are nervous about merging onto I-39 or navigating the Dells strip, ask your host about delivery, then enjoy your RV camping in Randolph without ever putting it in drive.
511wi.gov/What hookups and amenities should I expect at local campgrounds?
Most campgrounds near Randolph offer a great mix of amenities. Full-hookup sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer are common at private parks like Lake Arrowhead, Indian Trails, and Wilderness Campground. Wisconsin State Park sites typically offer electric-only hookups with shared water spigots and a centralized dump station included with your stay. Most parks have flush toilets, hot showers, dump stations, potable water fill, firewood for sale, and laundry. Cell service is solid in the Randolph area but can fade in deeper marsh and forest pockets. Pro tip: top up fresh water and dump tanks before leaving each park to keep your rig light and ready for the next stop on your Wisconsin loop.

RVs listed in Randolph come fully equipped for comfortable living. Expect a full kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink; a bathroom with toilet and shower; sleeping for anywhere from 2 to 10 depending on size; air conditioning, furnace, and propane appliances; and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts add bonuses like outdoor speakers, awnings, bike racks, Wi-Fi hotspots, smart TVs, and onboard generators. Each listing spells out exactly what is included, and you can filter by sleeps count and RV type to match your group. Pro tip: message hosts before booking to ask about extras like firewood bundles, kayaks, or a stocked starter kit (coffee, paper towels, dish soap) that make your first night a breeze.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/camping/faqWhat add-ons and pickup options do hosts typically offer?
Hosts in Randolph offer some great optional add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include generators ($25 to $50 per day), camping chairs and tables, propane fire pits, linens and bedding kits, bike racks, kayaks, dump station service ($30 to $75 flat), and pet cleaning fees if you are bringing a dog. Pickup and drop-off windows are typically scheduled with the host, and many offer delivery within 30 to 60 miles of Randolph for a per-mile fee. You will see add-on pricing and mileage policies right on the listing before you book. Pro tip: bundle generator rental with extra miles if you plan to boondock on national forest land farther north.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/camping/rulesHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in Randolph through RVezy, you pay online through the platform using a credit or debit card. The security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment as a temporary hold that your host requests before your trip, typically between $500 and $1,500 depending on the rig. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition it left, the hold is released after your trip ends. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at both pickup and drop-off, return the rig with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your contract requires it. Easy, transparent, and renter-friendly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat is a must-do local experience while RVing near Randolph?
Do not leave the area without a sunrise visit to Horicon National Wildlife Refuge, just 25 minutes east of Randolph. At more than 33,000 acres it is the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States, and during fall migration up to 200,000 Canada geese stage here on a single day, an experience locals plan their whole September around. Drive the 3-mile auto tour route off Highway 49 (open mid-March through late November), walk the Egret Trail floating boardwalk, and bring binoculars. Insider tip: pair your visit with a stop at Marsh Haven Nature Center for elevated viewing, then grab a Wisconsin fish fry in nearby Waupun on the way back to your campsite. It is the kind of moment that turns a Randolph RV trip into a story.
