Campgrounds and RV parks near Sauk City, WI

The Wisconsin River is the main draw at Buddy's River Resort, with calm water suitable for canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and fishing, plus a boat launch on site. Paddlers commonly float toward Eagle Island, and a small beach works for families cooling off between trips. At Devil's Lake State Park, the 360-acre lake sits below 500-foot quartzite bluffs and offers two sandy swimming beaches on the north and south shores. Hiking is the signature activity: bluff trails climb past the park's characteristic quartzite outcrops, and the park sits on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Rentals for kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, and standup paddleboards are available on the lake, and rock climbing draws visitors to the East Rampart routes.

The main RV camping season in the Sauk City area runs mid-April through mid-October. Buddy's River Resort operates mid-April to mid-October, and at Devil's Lake State Park the Northern Lights campground is open mid-April through mid-October. Dump stations, shower buildings, and potable water inside the state park run during that same window, roughly April 15 to October 15. Summer weekends and holidays are the busiest stretch. Devil's Lake is the most-visited state park in Wisconsin, and popular electric sites, especially wooded ones at Northern Lights, book out months in advance. Reservations for summer dates should be locked in as early as the 11-month booking window allows. Quartzite campground stays open year-round for winter camping, but potable water, flush toilets, showers, and the dump station are shut down from roughly mid-October through mid-April, so cold-weather stays are effectively dry camping with vault toilets. Fall brings bluff-top color and lighter crowds after Labor Day, and the spring shoulder season offers the most availability once private campgrounds and the seasonal state park loops reopen.

Quartzite campground is the RV-friendly choice inside Devil's Lake State Park. Sites are open and grassy on the footprint of a former 9-hole golf course, offering the most maneuvering room for larger travel trailers and fifth wheels, with 75 electric sites, one shower building, two pit toilets, and a dump/fill station. Sites are back-in only and length varies. Northern Lights has 143 sites in a mix of open and hardwood-forest settings with 71 electric sites, four shower buildings with flush toilets, a dump station, and a playground near site 140. Sites can be tighter than Quartzite, so it suits smaller RVs better. Neither state park campground has sites within sight of the lake, and campers must register at the North Shore Visitor Center on arrival. At Buddy's River Resort, expect basic but clean facilities, token-operated showers, a camp store, and direct river access rather than resort-style amenities.
