Campgrounds and RV parks near Waupun, WI

Waupun sits at the northwest edge of Horicon Marsh in east-central Wisconsin, straddling the Dodge and Fond du Lac county line. The city serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the marsh, which at more than 33,000 acres is one of the largest freshwater marshes in the United States and a critical stopover for migrating waterfowl. The northern two-thirds of the marsh is managed as the federal Horicon National Wildlife Refuge, while the southern third is the state-managed Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Campground options within a short drive cover a range of styles. Fairgrounds RV Park offers a straightforward, extended-stay-friendly setup close to town, while The Playful Goose Campground of the Horicon Marsh sits on 156 acres along the Rock River with full hookups and direct marsh access. Shady Oaks Campground lies to the northwest near Markesan, and Hattie Sherwood Campground overlooks the north shore of Green Lake. Breezy Hill Campground rounds out the options to the east toward Fond du Lac. Most parks accommodate both tent and RV rigs, though hookup levels and site sizes vary.

Reservation systems vary by operator. The Playful Goose Campground takes bookings directly through its own website and office phone. Hattie Sherwood Campground, run by the City of Green Lake, accepts phone and email reservations and also lists inventory through third-party platforms; it caps stays at nine consecutive days and allows modifications or cancellations up to 14 days before arrival. County-managed parks in Dodge and Fond du Lac counties typically book through their county parks departments rather than a state system. Wisconsin State Park sites in the wider region use the state DNR reservation portal. For summer weekends, especially those tied to holidays or the fall goose migration, book eight weeks or more ahead. Confirm rig length, hookup type (20, 30, or 50 amp), and whether firewood must be purchased on site, which is standard practice in Wisconsin and required at Hattie Sherwood to limit pest transport.
