Campgrounds and RV parks near Westfield, WI

Fishing and paddling drive most trips. Public boat launches on area lakes allow canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, and Buffalo Lake Camping Resort puts guests directly on Buffalo Lake, a wide Fox River flowage popular with anglers. Kilby Lake Campground and Lake of the Woods Campground offer smaller, quieter water for families with young kids. Wisconsin Dells is a straightforward day trip from any of the campgrounds listed, with indoor and outdoor water parks, go-karts, and boat tours on the Wisconsin River. Closer to town, outdoor options include hunting for deer and turkey, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ATV or UTV routes. Golfers can play Thal Acres, an eighteen-hole public course that has operated in Westfield for about sixty years. The Marquette County Fair takes place in July each year and is worth timing a trip around.

The camping season for private parks in the Westfield area generally runs from late April or early May through mid-October, tracking Wisconsin's frost-free window. Buffalo Lake Camping Resort, Crooked River Campground, and the other private grounds nearby follow this pattern, though a few keep limited sites open into November for hunters. June through August is peak. Weekends around the Fourth of July and Labor Day fill months out, and Dells-adjacent traffic pushes demand higher than the local population would suggest. September delivers the best value: warm days, cool nights, thinner crowds, and strong walleye fishing on nearby flowages. Fall color usually peaks in the first two weeks of October. Winter shuts down almost all RV camping in the region. Frozen hookups, unplowed access roads, and closed shower buildings are the norm. Renters who want a winter Wisconsin trip should look at state properties instead. Not all state properties offer camping during non-summer months, camping seasons vary by property, and during winter some campsites may be plowed as staffing allows.

Most Westfield-area campgrounds are family-oriented private resorts rather than rustic state sites. Expect full hookups (water, electric, sewer) on the majority of RV pads, a camp store with basics and firewood, a swimming pool or lake beach, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities in summer. Sites are generally level gravel or grass, with mature trees providing partial shade. Cell coverage is reliable near Interstate 39 and thins in the more wooded lots between lakes. Big-rig access is fine for most parks off the highway, but some interior roads near Montello are narrow and winding. At Wisconsin state properties, a family campsite is typically limited to a parent or parents with dependent children plus not more than two guests, or a group of not more than six persons; designated group sites allow more occupants. Bring insect repellent. Mosquitoes and biting flies are heavy near the wetlands from late May through July, and ticks are active spring through fall.
