Fishing drives most outdoor trips here. The North Platte River carries brown and rainbow trout, with public riverbank access maintained along town parks and at a PacifiCorp Public Access Area east of Glenrock that has a boat ramp and parking for floats and day fishing. Deer Creek holds trout in its canyon stretch south of town. Non-anglers head to Ayres Natural Bridge Park, about twenty minutes east, a free Converse County park with a creek-cut sandstone arch and a picnic area. In town, the Paleon Museum displays dinosaur bones and regional fossils, and the historic downtown around the Hotel Higgins is walkable. Glendo State Park, roughly an hour east, opens up powerboating, paddling, and walleye fishing for a longer day trip.

Glenrock sits at about 4,950 feet in a high-plains steppe climate, so seasons swing hard. Late May through September is the practical RV window. Daytime highs in June through August run in the low 80s°F, nights cool into the 50s°F, and afternoon thunderstorms are common, especially in July and August. Wind is a constant: plan for gusts that can rock awnings in any month of the year, and stake out canopies. Spring arrives slowly. Deer Creek RV Campground has added cement slabs and offers full hookups across its sites, and Platte River RV and Campground offers 30 and 50 amp service along with simpler river-side options suited to tents and smaller rigs. Rigs up to about 60 feet fit at the larger riverside parks. Cell coverage is reliable in Glenrock and along I-25 but drops quickly on backroads and at the Deer Creek canyon access points. Wind is the biggest day-to-day variable: secure slide toppers and awnings even on calm-looking mornings. Wildlife crosses through camp areas, including deer and antelope, so secure food and trash. Mosquitoes show up near the river in June and early July; bring repellent.
