The HulkBuster was our first experience RV'ing vs tent camping. It was my husband, our 17 yo son, and our 20lb schauzer/poodle cross. We did a loop up to Lake Superior staying in provincial and national parks with lots of stops at roadside rests to stretch our legs.
Pros:
- Pier-Guy was super responsive and very helpful with our questions along the way
- The HB is well kitted out...like a high-end Air BnB complete with a French bread knife, oyster knife, and cocktail shaker (among many other treasures). Multiples of plates, bowls, and cups avoided needing to do dishes at every meal. Lots of other thoughtful touches from our hosts.
- Awesome powerful Primus stove - had the kettle singing in minutes.
- Solar panel kept us charged
- Every square inch of the place is cleverly used with little pockets, cubbies, and nets - and great lighting. So easy !
- Used less gas than I had expected... possibly because it's diesel.
- No AC while parked but the electric fans worked great and we were able to get a nice draft through the unit while sleeping. (Screens across the side and back made the airflow more like a tent and less like a vehicle.)
Good to know:
- We found the bed a bit short and the outside person had to wake the inside person to get out in the middle of the night.
- PG warned us that the top bunk probably wouldn't accommodate our 17 yo son. He was game to try but PG was right. The child likely needs to be 12 or less. We were ready with a tent and a sleeping hammock so we had no issues.
- The toilet is a port-a-potty style. Handy if you need to not leave the van but we didn't use it.
- There is no waste tank. The sink drains to the ground so that didn't work for us with the campground rules about dishwater disposal for bear control. But there is a dish tub in the sink that pops out easily so we washed up outside.
- The backup camera is a bit temperamental (seems to help if you put it in Park first). PG said he would look into it. That said the van has great visibility and mirrors so we had no issues.
All in all a very enjoyable introduction to RV'ing. Starting to plan our next trip !
