Levi made it real easy to rent his trailer, as well as do the walk through at a separate time. This was my first time with an RV with a black tank, so I sprung for his "Trailer 101" extra. It was well worth it, as it made me confident of a "no mishap" first cleaning. The unit towed nicely, and was great for the rain. The insulation in the roof muffled the rain nicely. And the heater did a great job keeping the inside comfortable. Easy pick up and drop off location.

What does it cost to rent an RV in Davis, and how can I save?

An RV rental in Davis is one of the more affordable ways to explore Northern California. On RVezy, expect roughly $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers, $125 to $225 for Class C motorhomes, and $200+ for larger Class A coaches, with prices set directly by local hosts. What license do I need to rent an RV in Davis, California?

Great news for first-timers: a regular Class C California driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Davis, no commercial driver's license or special endorsement required, even for the larger Class A motorhomes you will see on the platform. You must be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and ID verification happens securely through the platform when you reserve. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit from your local auto club. Most renters are pleasantly surprised at how straightforward California's rules are, so you can focus on planning the fun stuff like a Lake Tahoe loop or a Napa wine run.

Is my Davis RV rental protected if something goes wrong on the trip?

Yes, and this is one of the best parts about booking through RVezy. Every RV rental in Davis comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your reservation. During checkout you choose your coverage level, which can cover accidental damage to the vehicle for real financial peace of mind on the road. Hosts do not pick your coverage, you do, so you control the level of protection that fits your trip. Pro tip: if you are a first-time renter heading into the Sierra Nevada or up to Lake Tahoe, upgrading coverage is a small price for big confidence.

What if I need to cancel my Davis RV rental?

Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), with a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, plus tiered refunds based on how far out you cancel from your trip start date. You will not see different policies on different listings because it is standardized across the platform. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so your trip stays on track. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later for the best Davis rigs, you lock in your dates and your protection plan while keeping flexibility through the grace window. Check the current policy details on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm.

Can I bring my dog on a Davis RV rental?

Absolutely, Davis is one of the most dog-friendly college towns in California, and plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Davis. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy when searching, then message the host about your pup's size and any cleaning fee. Once you're rolling, your dog will love Community Park's off-leash area, the Davis Bike Loop trails, and the UC Davis Arboretum's 3.5-mile creek-side path (leashed). For overnight trips, Lake Solano County Park near Winters welcomes leashed dogs at its RV sites, and Bothe-Napa Valley State Park allows pets in developed campsites. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, Davis summers regularly hit 95 to 100°F and your dog will thank you on those Arboretum walks.

Can the RV be delivered to me in Davis instead of picking it up?

Yes, RV delivery in Davis is a popular option on RVezy, especially for first-timers or anyone flying into Sacramento International Airport (SMF), about 20 minutes away. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer to your campground, hotel, or a friend's driveway in Davis, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer it, then message them with your destination. Common drop-offs include Lake Solano County Park, Sugar Barge RV Resort on the Delta, and campgrounds at Lake Berryessa. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you have never towed a trailer, you skip the stressful hitch-up entirely.

How far can I drive from Davis, and how do mileage policies work?

You've got serious road-trip range from Davis thanks to its central spot in the Sacramento Valley. Lake Tahoe is about 110 miles east (2 hours), Yosemite National Park 175 miles southeast (3.5 hours), San Francisco 75 miles southwest (90 minutes), Napa Valley 45 miles west (1 hour), and the Mendocino Coast roughly 180 miles northwest (4 hours). Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, some offer a daily allowance with a per-mile fee after, while others provide RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for longer Davis RV trips. The listing page shows it clearly before you book. Pro tip: if you're planning a one-way loop or a Tahoe-and-back trip in under five days, an unlimited-mileage listing usually beats paying overage fees on a tighter package.

Where are the best campgrounds near Davis for an RV trip?

You're spoiled for choice within an hour of Davis. The best campgrounds near Davis include Lake Solano County Park in Winters (25 minutes west, shaded riverside RV sites with electric hookups), Putah Canyon Recreation Area at Lake Berryessa (45 minutes, full lake views), Sugar Barge RV Resort in Bethel Island on the California Delta (1 hour south, full hookups and a marina), Sacramento West/Old Town KOA in West Sacramento (15 minutes east, full-hookup pull-throughs), and Bothe-Napa Valley State Park (1 hour southwest, redwoods and wine country). Reserve through ReserveCalifornia for state parks and the county's online system for Lake Solano. Pro tip: Lake Solano books up fast on summer weekends, snag a site 3 to 4 months ahead, or pivot to a midweek stay for instant availability.

When is the best time to take an RV trip from Davis?

Davis is a year-round RV destination, but the sweet spots are April through early June and September through October, when daytime highs run a perfect 70 to 85°F and evenings cool into the 50s thanks to the Delta Breeze. Summers (June to August) regularly hit 95 to 105°F in the Sacramento Valley, which is fine if you're heading up to Tahoe or the coast where it's 20 degrees cooler. Winters are mild (50 to 60°F days, 35 to 45°F nights) with occasional fog, perfect for wine-country trips and totally drivable. Pro tip: time your trip to UC Davis events like the Picnic Day in April or the California Honey Festival in May, then escape to Napa or Berryessa for the weekend, the best of both worlds.

I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?

Totally, and Davis is honestly one of the friendlier places in California to learn. The streets around UC Davis are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked outside of weekday rush hour, and I-80 and I-505 have generous lanes for easy highway driving. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, the propane system, slide-outs, dumping tanks, and connecting at the campground, so you're never left guessing. You can also message the host before booking with any questions. Pro tip: for your first time renting an RV, pick a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Davis under 25 feet, they drive almost like a big van and fit any state park site without stress.

What happens if I break down or have trouble on the road near Davis?

You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire, dead battery, lockout, or mechanical issue. The roadside team can dispatch service wherever you are, from a downtown Davis street to a remote Lake Berryessa pullout to a Highway 50 climb toward Tahoe. Your host is also your direct line for questions about the RV's quirks, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV's tire pressures, fuel type, and propane shutoff during the orientation, it saves time if you ever need to call for help.

Can I take my Davis RV rental on a longer road trip across state lines?

Yes, an RV road trip from Davis can cross into Oregon, Nevada, or Arizona, and many hosts welcome it as long as you message them in advance. Popular routes include Davis to Crater Lake, Oregon (around 425 miles north), Davis to the Grand Canyon (about 850 miles southeast), and the classic Davis-Reno-Tahoe loop just across the Nevada line. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: clear your route with the host at booking and confirm any mileage cap, then build in time for the gorgeous Highway 1 detour through Mendocino if you are heading north, it is worth the extra hours.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validity

What kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?

Realistic numbers help you plan. Class B campervans get about 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 mpg, Class A coaches 6 to 10 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but typically knock 3 to 5 mpg off its normal rating. Gas in the Davis area runs around $4.75 to $5.25 per gallon (California prices, sorry). For a 4-day, 400-mile Davis-to-Tahoe round trip in a Class C, budget roughly $200 in fuel plus $40 to $60 per night for campground hookups and $30 to $50 per day for groceries. Pro tip: fuel up at Costco off Second Street or the Pilot in Dunnigan (20 minutes north on I-5) for the cheapest prices in the region, you'll save $0.40 to $0.60 per gallon.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Davis?

Plan ahead and you'll get your pick. California State Parks (Bothe-Napa, Brannan Island, and others) open reservations 6 months in advance through ReserveCalifornia.com, and summer weekends sell out the moment the window opens. Federal sites like Lake Berryessa's Putah Canyon use Recreation.gov on the same 6-month rolling window. Yolo County's Lake Solano Park books through the county system about 3 months out and is the closest full-hookup option to UC Davis. Private parks like Sac-West KOA and Sugar Barge often have availability 2 to 4 weeks out, even in peak season. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the 6-month mark for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, those three sell out within minutes of opening.
reservecalifornia.com/

What are the local driving conditions like around Davis?

Davis itself is RV-friendly: flat, grid-style streets, almost no hills, and easy interstate access via I-80 (east-west) and I-505 (north). Watch for cyclists everywhere, this is the most bike-friendly city in America, so give wide berths in downtown and near campus. Heading to Tahoe, Highway 50 and I-80 climb to 7,200+ feet over Echo and Donner summits, where chain controls apply November through April; check Caltrans QuickMap before you go. Summer afternoon winds gust through the Delta and across the Yolo Causeway, so grip the wheel on that elevated stretch. Pro tip: avoid I-80 westbound on Friday afternoons (Bay Area exodus) and eastbound Sunday afternoons (Tahoe return), leave a few hours earlier or later for a stress-free RV camping trip near Davis.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

What amenities do campgrounds near Davis typically offer?

You'll find a full range. Private parks like Sac-West KOA and Sugar Barge RV Resort offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and propane refills. County parks like Lake Solano have electric and water hookups plus a central dump station. State parks (Bothe-Napa, Brannan Island) generally offer water spigots, flush toilets, and showers but no in-site sewer, you'll dump at the on-site station before leaving. Need to refill water or dump tanks day-of? Sac-West KOA in West Sacramento offers public dump service for around $15. Pro tip: fill your fresh-water tank before leaving Davis (your host or any RV park will help), it's lighter to drive empty but you'll appreciate full tanks if your first night is a no-hookup state park site.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=21434

What features and amenities come with a typical Davis RV rental?

Most RVs on RVezy in Davis come fully equipped for a comfortable trip. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds sleeping 4 to 8 total, a kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Class C and Class A motorhomes include roof A/C (essential in valley summers), a furnace for cool Sierra nights, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many listings add generators, solar panels, outdoor TVs, and bike racks (a must in bike-crazy Davis). Wi-Fi hotspots are sometimes included or available as an add-on. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and review the listing's photo and amenity list, then message the host to confirm specifics like whether linens and kitchen kits are included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Davis,California

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Davis RV rental?

Hosts in Davis offer extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons include generator packages ($25 to $50/day), bike racks, kayak and SUP racks, camping chairs and tables, linen and towel kits ($25 to $75 flat), kitchen kits, propane fire pits, and starter propane fills. Many hosts also offer dump-and-fill on return (skip the dump station chore for around $50) and pre-stocked groceries. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting point in Davis, Woodland, or Sacramento; delivery to your campground is widely available, especially within 30 to 50 miles. Pro tip: scan the full add-on list on each listing before booking, bundling extras with one host is almost always cheaper than buying separately, and a propane fire pit is gold for state parks during fire-restriction season.

How does payment and the security deposit work for a Davis RV rental?

Easy and transparent. When you book an RV rental in Davis on RVezy, you pay securely through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. Your total breaks down into the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, taxes, your selected protection plan, and any host add-ons like delivery, mileage, or a generator. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card separately from your booking payment, the amount is shown on the listing and held in case of damage or excessive cleaning. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the deposit is released after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with the host at pickup and drop-off, it is the easiest way to protect your deposit.

How do I handle summer heat on a Davis RV trip?

Davis summers are hot but very manageable with a few smart moves. Daytime highs run 90 to 105°F from late June through August, but the famous Delta Breeze cools evenings into the 60s, perfect for outdoor dinners. Make sure your rental's roof A/C is in great shape (ask the host) and plan to run on shore power at campgrounds with 30 or 50-amp hookups, dry-camping in 100°F heat is rough without a generator. Drive in the cooler morning hours, then settle in by mid-afternoon. Pro tip: trade Sacramento Valley heat for cooler escapes within 1 to 2 hours, Lake Tahoe (75°F highs), the Sonoma Coast (65 to 70°F), or Mendocino (60s and foggy), they're all easy day-or-overnight RV trips from Davis and feel like a different climate entirely.
