Our camper van rental experience was a pre retirement trial for my wife, our precious lil Yorkie & me. We are new to the van life and this was our first time driving & living out of a camper van. The trip exceeded our expectations on many levels from putting together a list of ideas & “to do’s” for our future custom camper van to the overall positive learning experience thanks to our incredibly insightful and gracious host. Scott was an exceptional host, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the operation of the van inside & out. During our trip, Scott would respond to our text questions promptly, which was very comforting to know he was there for us if needed.

2016 Airstream Class B
Scott was a phenomenal host and his Airstream was wonderful to travel in. He went over everything with us and made sure we were comfortable prior to setting off. He was flexible with arrival and departure times as well. The Airstream was very clean and as described. It even had a few extra features that we didn't anticipate. Very easy to maneuver, set up and live in. We will definitely look to see if either of Scott's rentals are available next time we travel!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Perfect Land Yacht! (Comfy quarters with none of the seasickness) Megan & Owen's was the RV we didn't know we needed! It was a great home away from home and made us the envy of our camping neighbors (especially when the rain showed up).  It was spacious and comfortable. There was good water pressure and temperature in the shower. The generator worked perfectly, keeping the trailer cool and the refrigerator cold!  The ambient lighting inside and out, along with the outdoor rug added a nice touch. The awning was perfect for us to sit outside and avoid the direct sun...and rain. The indoor/outdoor Bluetooth speakers were also nice. The convenience of control panels (for the lighting, awning, water, climate control and Bluetooth) were high tech enough for sophistication but low tech enough for us to manage. The RV was well-stocked with the necessities -- towels, linens,  dishes, soaps (bathroom and kitchen), toilet paper and even a fan -- lending to the feel of home. We didn't use the outdoor grill THIS time but look forward to using it next time. Owen was a great host and the booking process was seamless and straightforward, with clear communication and helpful tips provided every step of the way. He was very attentive to our questions before, during and after the rental. He dropped off the trailer, set everything up for us and picked it up promptly at our check out time. I can’t recommend this RV rental enough. If you're a seasoned camper or trying RVing for the first time, this is the way to go. We’re already planning our next trip!

Oscar was great! He walked me through everything and helped me get the trailer connected to the truck. The trailer was clean and everything we ran was functional (did not use the AC). Upon return the family was very responsive when I called when I dropped off the trailer. I would definitely rent from Oscar and family again!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Westernport, MD

How much does an RV rental in Westernport cost, and how can I save?

On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A coaches sit at the higher end. What license do I need to rent an RV in Westernport, MD?

Great news for first-time renters: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Westernport, MD. Maryland does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or trailers used recreationally. To book on RVezy, you'll need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform, which most guests finish in just a few minutes. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license. That's it, you're cleared to head into the Allegheny highlands for your Westernport RV trip.

What protection is included when I rent an RV in Westernport?

You're covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Westernport on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on Route 135 toward Deep Creek Lake with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits you during checkout (not the host). Coverage tiers vary in deductible and limits, so review them at booking. Pro tip: pick your protection tier based on the terrain you'll cover, the more remote the route, the more breathing room a higher tier provides.

What happens if I need to cancel my Westernport RV rental?

Booking is lower-risk than you might think. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, so you won't see different policies on different listings. There's a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and after that refunds depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy works with you on a refund or rebooking credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for peak fall foliage weekends, knowing the platform-wide policy gives you predictable flexibility if plans shift.

Can I bring my dog on an RV rental in Westernport?

Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental Westernport adventure is one of the best ways to travel with your dog. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see hosts who welcome four-legged guests (sometimes for a small cleaning fee). Once you're on the road, your pup will love Rocky Gap State Park (about 35 minutes north near Flintstone), which allows leashed dogs in designated pet-friendly loops, plus Jennings Randolph Lake just across the West Virginia line. Potomac State Forest, right outside Westernport, also welcomes leashed pets on trails. Pro tip: pack a tie-out stake and a collapsible water bowl, mountain campsites can be uneven and warm midday.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Westernport?

Yes, and it's a game-changer. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery Westernport guests can book directly, where the host drives the rig to your campsite, levels it, hooks up water and power, and walks you through every system before handing over the keys. Popular delivery destinations include Rocky Gap State Park, New Germany State Park, Big Run State Park, and Deep Creek Lake State Park. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host to confirm the destination and any mileage fee. Pro tip: delivery is perfect if it's your first time renting an RV, you skip towing the twisty climbs on US-220 and start your trip relaxed at the campsite.

How does mileage work, and how far can I realistically travel from Westernport?

You've got plenty of range to explore. Most RVezy hosts in Westernport include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, just filter or message hosts to find them. Westernport sits at a sweet spot for road trips: Deep Creek Lake is about 35 miles northwest, Cumberland and the C&O Canal are 30 miles east, Seneca Rocks in West Virginia is roughly 75 miles south, and Pittsburgh is around 130 miles northwest. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Westernport (say a loop through Shenandoah or the New River Gorge), filter for unlimited-mileage listings up front, it saves a lot of mental math later.

Where are the best campgrounds near Westernport to park my RV?

You're in one of Maryland's best-kept camping secrets. Top picks near Westernport include Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone (lakeside sites with electric hookups, swimming, and trails around Lake Habeeb), New Germany State Park near Grantsville (forested sites at higher elevation), Big Run State Park inside Savage River State Forest (rustic, creekside, very affordable), Deep Creek Lake State Park in Swanton (electric sites with RV length limits at some loops), and Robert W. Craig Campground at Jennings Randolph Lake just over the West Virginia line. For RV camping Westernport visitors looking for electric hookups close to the water, Rocky Gap is a strong choice. Pro tip: avoid approaching Jennings Randolph from Keyser, the road is narrow and steep for larger rigs.

When is the best time to rent an RV in Westernport, MD?

Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot. Westernport sits in the Allegheny Mountains at about 900 feet (with nearby camping at 2,000 to 2,500 feet), so summers are noticeably cooler than the rest of Maryland, highs are typically 75 to 82°F in July and August, dropping into the 50s at night. May and June bring wildflowers and rushing waterfalls, September delivers crisp 70°F days, and early-to-mid October explodes with one of the East Coast's best fall foliage displays. Winters bring snow and freezing temps, so most campgrounds close from November to March. Pro tip: book a mid-October weekend at Rocky Gap or New Germany for foliage that rivals New England, just reserve 3+ months ahead.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what I'm doing?

You'll be more ready than you think. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through propane, slide-outs, the water system, the generator, dumping tanks, and driving tips specific to their rig. You can also message your host through the platform before booking with any question, and many first-time renters do exactly that. For your Westernport RV trip, the host can flag local quirks like the steeper grades on MD-135 and US-220 or campground-specific arrival tips. Pro tip: take phone photos or a short video during the walkthrough, you'll thank yourself the first time you set up at New Germany State Park after sunset.
nps.gov/subjects/camping/rv-camping.htm

What if something breaks down during my Westernport RV trip?

You're never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something acts up inside the rig, your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app, most can troubleshoot a fussy water pump or finicky furnace in a quick call. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: cell service can be spotty in the Savage River State Forest and along Backbone Mountain, so save the roadside assistance number to your phone and download offline maps before leaving Westernport.

Can I take the RV across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, interstate travel is welcomed and easy. Westernport sits at the meeting point of Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, so crossing into neighboring states is the norm, not the exception. Popular routes include Cumberland and the C&O Canal (about 30 miles east), Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley in West Virginia (about 60 miles south), Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania (about 50 miles north), and Shenandoah National Park (about 150 miles southeast). Cross-border travel to Canada depends on the host and insurance approval, so message the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: the Great Allegheny Passage is within easy reach, making for a memorable RV road trip from Westernport.

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for gas?

Budgeting fuel for your Westernport RV trip is straightforward. Travel trailers don't burn extra fuel themselves but reduce your tow vehicle's MPG (expect 10 to 14 MPG). Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches hover around 6 to 10 MPG. Western Maryland's mountain grades on US-220 and I-68 will pull those numbers down a bit. Gas prices in Allegany and Garrett counties tend to run a touch below the Maryland average. Pro tip: fill up in Keyser, WV (5 miles south) where fuel is often noticeably cheaper than on the Maryland side, just plan one stop there at the start and end of your loop.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Westernport?

The earlier the better, but you have options. Maryland State Park campgrounds (Rocky Gap, New Germany, Deep Creek Lake, Big Run) accept reservations up to 12 months in advance through the Maryland Park Service reservation system at ParkReservations.Maryland.gov. Summer weekends and the entire month of October (peak foliage) sell out fastest, often 3 to 6 months ahead. Jennings Randolph Lake's Robert W. Craig Campground books through Recreation.gov, also up to 6 months out. Pro tip: if you strike out on a Friday-Saturday at Rocky Gap, look at Tuesday-Thursday arrivals or check New Germany and Big Run, they're quieter and almost always have something open, even in peak season.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/

What are local driving conditions like around Westernport?

Driving around Westernport is scenic and very manageable with a little awareness. The town sits in the Georges Creek Valley between mountain ridges, so expect climbs and descents on MD-135, MD-36, and US-220, with grades up to 8% in spots. Roads are well-maintained, traffic is light outside of Cumberland, and I-68 (the National Freeway) gives you a fast east-west route with truck-friendly grades. Winter (December to March) can bring snow, ice, and occasional road closures over Backbone Mountain. Pro tip: use engine braking on the descent from Frostburg into Westernport on MD-36, and avoid the narrow shortcut from Keyser to Jennings Randolph Lake if you're in anything bigger than a 25-foot Class C.
chart.maryland.gov/

What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Westernport?

Expect a good mix of services, but check before you book. Rocky Gap State Park offers electric hookups (30/50 amp) at most sites, with a centralized dump station and potable water fills, no individual water/sewer at sites. New Germany State Park has electric at some sites; Big Run is rustic (no hookups, pit toilets). Deep Creek Lake State Park has electric loops and a dump station. Jennings Randolph's Robert W. Craig Campground offers electric hookups, restrooms with showers, and a dump station. Pro tip: for where to park an RV in Westernport between trips or to dump tanks, the City of Cumberland and several Garrett County campgrounds offer public dump stations, your host can point you to the closest one.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/western/rockygap-camping.aspx

What's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Westernport?

More comfort than most first-timers expect. A typical motorhome rental Westernport listing comes with a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a convertible dinette, air conditioning, furnace, fresh/grey/black water tanks, propane, and seatbelted travel seating. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, an awning, and a generator for off-grid use. Campervan rental Westernport options (Class B) are more compact but still include a bed, mini kitchen, and often a wet bath. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a hotspot. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and amenities like generator and outdoor shower, especially useful at Big Run and dispersed sites in Potomac State Forest where hookups don't exist.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Westernport,%20Maryland

What add-ons, pickup logistics, and mileage policies should I know about?

Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons on RVezy listings include linen and kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, generators, propane fire pits, bike racks, kayaks, and pet packages, typically $25 to $100 each. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Westernport, Lonaconing, Frostburg, or nearby Keyser, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per day; extra miles run $0.25 to $0.50 each. Use the Instant Book filter to skip the approval wait. Pro tip: if you're heading to Deep Creek Lake or Seneca Rocks, request delivery, the host handles the mountain driving so you can start your family RV trip Westernport-style relaxed instead of white-knuckled.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Westernport,%20Maryland

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and protected. You pay through RVezy's secure platform (credit or debit card) at the time of booking, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig, and released after the trip assuming no damage or policy violations. Trip totals on each listing clearly show the nightly rate, taxes, RVezy service fee, and any add-ons before you confirm. Pro tip: do a thorough walk-around with your host at pickup and drop-off, and take date-stamped photos of the exterior, tires, awning, and interior. It's the single best way to ensure a smooth, fast security deposit return after your Westernport RV trip wraps up.

How should I prepare for cool nights and shoulder-season trips in Westernport?

A little prep turns chilly mountain nights into the best part of the trip. Westernport's elevation and nearby campgrounds (some above 2,400 feet) mean temperatures can dip into the 30s in April, May, September, and October, even when daytime is gorgeous. Look for RVezy listings with a propane furnace, heated holding tanks, and 30-amp shore power, all standard on most Class C motorhomes. Rocky Gap and Deep Creek Lake State Park both offer electric hookups so you can run a small space heater. Pro tip: book a foliage-week trip in mid-October, pack a flannel and fire-starter, and reserve a site at New Germany State Park, the mix of red maples, yellow birches, and frosty mornings is unforgettable.
