Kenny was great to work with on delivery, setup, and pickup. All were completely as desired. The camper was great, roomy and completely stocked with all that we needed. Only thing we encountered is that there was no antenna access for the television and the wifi at the campground was not strong enough for steaming to the TV.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Columbus, WI

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Columbus, WI?

Good news: RV rental in Columbus, WI is one of the most affordable ways to explore south-central Wisconsin. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A coaches from $250 to $400 per night. Booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday) or during shoulder months like May and September often unlocks the lowest rates. Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Columbus, WI?

Great news for first-timers: your regular Wisconsin (or any U.S./Canadian) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Columbus. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or RV endorsement is required for the motorhomes and trailers listed on RVezy, even the larger Class A coaches. You'll just need to be 25 or older and complete the quick ID verification through the RVezy platform during checkout. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation confirms standard Class D licenses cover recreational vehicles for personal use. Pro tip: if you're towing a travel trailer for the first time, message your host before booking and they'll happily walk you through hitching during your pickup orientation.

What protection is included when I book an RV in Columbus, WI?

Every RV rental in Columbus, WI booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose your coverage level (not the host), which protects against most accidental damage to the vehicle while it is in your care. That means a flat tire on Highway 151, a small ding at Astico County Park, or a mechanical hiccup outside the Columbus Antique Mall will not derail your trip. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully before clicking Book, especially if you are planning a longer Wisconsin loop, so you can match the level of protection to your travel range and comfort.

What if my plans change? Can I cancel my Columbus RV rental?

Yes. RVezy has a clear cancellation policy set at the platform level (not by individual hosts), so you can book your Columbus RV rental with confidence. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, plus tiered refund options depending on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy will help you find a replacement rig or issue a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: book your Columbus RV trip earlier rather than later, you will lock in the best rigs for summer weekends around Madison and the Dells while still having flexibility to adjust if life happens. Full cancellation details are reviewed at checkout.

Can I bring my dog on a Columbus RV trip?

Absolutely — pet-friendly RV rental Columbus options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the 'Pet-Friendly' filter on the search page and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Once you arrive, your pup will love the area: Astico County Park has riverside walking trails along the Crawfish River, Fireman's Park has open green space for fetch, and the Glacial Drumlin State Trail just south of Columbus is a leash-friendly favorite for long walks. Pro tip: message the host with your dog's size and breed before booking, mention any shedding, and bring a portable kennel or seat cover. Most Columbus-area hosts genuinely love accommodating well-mannered pets.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Columbus, WI?

Yes. RV delivery in Columbus is one of the smartest moves for first-timers and families who do not want to drive a big rig through unfamiliar territory. Many RVezy hosts near Columbus deliver directly to spots like Astico County Park or a private driveway, then set up the awning, level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. You just show up with groceries and start your vacation. Use the Delivery filter to see who offers it, and check each host's delivery radius and fee (often a flat fee plus a per-mile rate). Pro tip: delivery is especially popular for trips to the Wisconsin Dells, about 50 miles northwest.

How far can I drive on a typical Columbus, WI RV rental?

You have plenty of road ahead of you. Most RVezy hosts in Columbus include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available at roughly $0.30 to $0.50 each, and some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer adventures. That is more than enough for the classic local loops: Wisconsin Dells is about 50 miles northwest, Devil's Lake State Park is around 45 miles west, Door County is about 175 miles northeast, and the Twin Cities sit around 270 miles to the west. Pro tip: if you are planning a multi-state Wisconsin RV trip, filter for unlimited miles upfront, it almost always saves money compared to paying overage on a per-mile package.

Where are the best campgrounds near Columbus, WI?

You'll have some excellent options for RV camping Columbus within a short drive. Astico County Park (about 12 miles south in Marshall) offers 70 electric sites along the Crawfish River, perfect for kayaking. Wolfie's Campground in nearby Sun Prairie has full-hookup, 50-amp pull-throughs and is open year-round. Crystal Lake Campground near Lodi (about 20 miles west) is a quiet, full-service favorite, and Lake Kegonsa State Park (around 30 miles south) is a Wisconsin DNR gem with shaded sites and beach access. Pro tip: weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day book up fast, so reserve through the Wisconsin State Park reservation system as soon as your dates are set, typically 11 months in advance.

When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Columbus, WI?

Late May through early October is the sweet spot for a Columbus RV trip, with daytime highs running 70°F to 85°F in summer and crisp, colorful 55°F to 70°F days through September and into mid-October. June brings green prairies and the Crawfish River paddling season, July and August are peak warmth for swimming and festivals, and late September pairs cooler nights with stunning Wisconsin fall foliage. Spring (April to mid-May) can be muddy but quiet, and winter rentals are available from select hosts for ice-fishing and snowmobiling adventures. Pro tip: target the last two weekends of September for the best mix of warm days, cool sleeping weather, fewer mosquitoes, and discounted shoulder-season rates.

I've never rented an RV before. Is Columbus a good place to start?

Columbus is honestly one of the easier places in Wisconsin to tackle your first time renting an RV. Traffic is light, roads are flat and straight, and you're surrounded by full-hookup campgrounds within 30 minutes in any direction. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, water system, propane, generator, and dump valves, so you leave confident. You can also message your host anytime during the trip with questions. Pro tip: for your shakedown weekend, book Wolfie's Campground or Astico County Park, just 15 to 20 minutes away — close enough to pop back for anything you forgot, but quiet enough to feel like a real getaway.

What happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?

You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If anything goes sideways on Interstate 39, US-151, or a country road outside Columbus, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know their rig best and can often troubleshoot in minutes. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and insurance paperwork at pickup and save them in your phone, that way you are ready to roll if you ever need to call for assistance.

Can I take my Columbus, WI RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes. An RV road trip from Columbus into neighboring states is welcome and popular, and most hosts allow travel throughout the continental U.S., so Minneapolis, Chicago, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and Iowa are all on the table. Cross-border travel into Canada may also be permitted depending on the host and insurance coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a classic 5-day loop from Columbus heads west to the Mississippi River bluffs at La Crosse, then north up Wisconsin Highway 35, about 600 round-trip miles of scenic driving.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validity

What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I expect?

Plan smart and the fuel bill won't surprise you. Class C motorhomes around Columbus typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Wisconsin gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often around $3.10 to $3.50 per gallon for regular unleaded. For a 4-day, 300-mile trip in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Kwik Trip on West James Street in Columbus before you head out — Kwik Trip consistently has Wisconsin's cleanest restrooms and most competitive prices, a local rite of passage.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Columbus, WI?

For Wisconsin State Park campgrounds like Lake Kegonsa, Devil's Lake, or Mirror Lake, reservations open 11 months in advance through the Wisconsin State Parks reservation system, and prime summer weekends often sell out the same day they open. For private parks like Crystal Lake Campground, 2 to 4 months ahead is usually safe for summer Saturdays. County parks like Astico can sometimes be snagged just a week or two out midweek. Pro tip: if your dream campground is full, set a calendar reminder to check Tuesday mornings, that is when cancellations from reserved-but-uncertain campers tend to free up sites, especially around Devil's Lake.

What are driving conditions like around Columbus, WI?

Driving an RV around Columbus is refreshingly easy. The terrain is gently rolling farmland, US-151 and Interstate 39/94 are wide, well-maintained four-lane highways, and downtown Columbus has plenty of long pull-through parking near Fireman's Park. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk (Wisconsin leads the U.S. in deer-vehicle collisions, so slow down on rural county roads), and stay alert for slow-moving farm equipment in spring and fall. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so check WisDOT's 511 system before driving. Pro tip: avoid US-151 near Madison during weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) and aim to roll into your campground before dark to make leveling and setup a breeze.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Columbus, WI?

Columbus-area campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Most private parks offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and camp stores stocked with firewood and propane. Wisconsin State Parks like Lake Kegonsa and Devil's Lake typically provide electric sites, potable water spigots, dump stations, and modern flush-toilet restrooms. Astico County Park has electric sites and a dump station on-site. Pro tip: a convenient public dump station and freshwater fill is available at the Pilot Travel Center in DeForest off Interstate 39 (Exit 126), about 15 minutes south of Columbus, perfect for a quick top-off before heading home.

What's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Columbus, WI?

You will be surprised how home-like modern rentals feel. Most motorhome rental Columbus options on RVezy include a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette and sofa that convert to extra sleeping space, roof air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for every passenger. Travel trailers and fifth wheels often add slide-outs for extra living space. Many include a generator, awning, and a TV with antenna or streaming setup. Wi-Fi varies, but most hosts can recommend a hotspot. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and bathroom type, and read the listing's amenity list carefully so you know exactly what is included before you book.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Columbus, WI RV rental?

Hosts in Columbus offer a great mix of extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generator use beyond included hours, bikes, kayaks, camp chairs, and outdoor grills. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting spot, and delivery is widely available to campgrounds within about 50 miles. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night with overage around $0.35 to $0.50 each. Pro tip: bundle bedding, a kitchen kit, and the generator package into your booking, it usually costs less than buying separately and saves a last-minute store run on your way out of town.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and transparent on RVezy. You pay the full rental amount (nightly rate, taxes, service fees, and your chosen protection plan) through the secure RVezy platform when you book, no cash and no awkward handoffs with the host. A refundable security deposit is also placed on hold before pickup; the amount varies by RV and is clearly shown on the listing, separate from your booking payment. As long as the rig comes back in the condition you received it, the hold is released a few days after your trip ends. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video at pickup and again at drop-off with the host present, it takes 90 seconds and is the single best way to avoid any deposit disputes after your Columbus RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Columbus, WI during winter?

Yes. Winter RV rentals are available from select Columbus-area hosts and can be a memorable way to experience Wisconsin's snowy season. Look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, and an enclosed underbelly so your water lines do not freeze when temperatures drop into the single digits (January averages roughly 12°F to 28°F). Ice-fishing on Lake Mendota and snowmobiling Wisconsin's extensive state trail system are just minutes away. Pro tip: ask your host for an extra propane tank and a small electric space heater, and plan to stay at campgrounds with shore power so your furnace can run all night without draining the battery.
