Picnicking is the primary activity at Dutton Pines State Park, with tables and grills set beneath a stand of tall red and white pines. A covered shelter provides shade and protection from passing showers, making it a practical lunch stop for RV travelers heading through the Connecticut River valley.
Scott Farm, a historic heirloom apple orchard in nearby Dummerston, is a short drive from the park. Visitors can walk the orchard, taste dozens of heritage apple varieties in fall, and tour the 19th century farm buildings.
The West River Trail follows the former railbed along the West River between Brattleboro and South Londonderry. Sections near Brattleboro offer easy, mostly flat walking or cycling with river views, and trailhead parking accommodates smaller RVs and tow vehicles.
Fort Dummer State Park, just south of Brattleboro, offers hiking trails, an overlook of the Connecticut River valley, and a family-friendly campground. It is a good complement to a Dutton Pines stop for travelers wanting a longer hike or an overnight RV site.
Brattleboro is a walkable arts-focused town about 10 minutes south of the park, with galleries, cafes, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, and a lively farmers market in season. Larger public lots near the river can accommodate RVs for a short visit.
US Route 5 and Route 142 follow the Connecticut River through classic Vermont farmland and village scenery. The route is well suited to RV touring, with frequent pull-offs, covered bridges, and views across to New Hampshire.
Harris Hill in Brattleboro is one of the few ski jumps of its size in the United States and hosts an annual winter competition. Off-season visitors can view the structure and enjoy the surrounding area as a short side trip from the park.

Dutton Pines State Park, VT, United States
The park sits along US Route 5 in Dummerston, about 10 minutes north of Brattleboro and roughly 15 minutes from Interstate 91 via Exit 3 or Exit 4. From Boston, it is about a 2 hour drive; from Hartford, Connecticut, about 2 hours; and from Albany, New York, about 2 hours 15 minutes via Route 9. The approach on US Route 5 is straightforward for RVs, with no major tunnels or steep mountain passes, though rural New England roads can be narrow and winding off the main highway. The nearest airport suitable for fly-and-rent trips is Bradley International Airport near Hartford, with Manchester-Boston Regional and Boston Logan as larger alternatives.
