Late May through early September is the prime window, when the reservoir is open to motorized boating, campground loops are fully operational, and daytime highs are warm enough for swimming. July and August bring the warmest water and the busiest weekends, so reservations should be made well in advance. Shoulder months of May and September are quieter and better for anglers, though nights can drop near freezing. Winters are cold and snowy, with limited access and most facilities closed.

Boating is the signature activity at East Canyon State Park, with a paved boat ramp and marina providing access to the long, narrow reservoir. The lake allows motorized boats, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and personal watercraft. Trailered boat parking with room for tow vehicles is available near the ramp.
East Canyon Reservoir is stocked by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and offers year-round fishing for rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and perch. Anglers fish from shore, boats, and float tubes, with the quieter north end popular for bass. A Utah fishing license is required.
A designated day-use area along the reservoir shoreline offers a spot for swimming, paddleboarding, and picnicking in summer. Pit toilets, shade shelters, and vehicle parking suitable for smaller RVs and tow vehicles are available. There are no lifeguards on duty.
A scenic drive south on SR-65 follows the Mormon Pioneer Trail corridor over Big Mountain Pass toward Emigration Canyon. Interpretive pullouts explain the pioneer crossing. The road is narrow and steep, so it is best tackled in a smaller vehicle rather than a large RV.
The sagebrush hills and reservoir margins host mule deer, elk, moose, waterfowl, and raptors such as osprey and bald eagles. Early morning and dusk from the campground loops or day-use areas offer the best viewing. Binoculars are recommended.
Calmer mornings on East Canyon Reservoir are ideal for kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. Non-motorized craft can launch from the beach day-use area or the main boat ramp. Watch for afternoon winds that funnel through the canyon.
When the reservoir freezes, typically in January and February, East Canyon becomes a popular ice fishing destination for rainbow trout and perch. Day-use access is maintained in winter, but the campground is closed. Always check ice thickness before heading out.
Great RV and super easy to work with. Responsive to any questions, pick up and drop off were smooth. Looking forward to renting from them the next time.

Rodrigo and Family were amazing! We came in to visit Family all the way from Australia and we’re looking for a reliable and reasonable Rv to rent to go to Yellowstone. The RV was super clean, easy to drive and well stocked with everything you need. We would highly recommend using them for any type of RV rental. Their communication skills were fantastic all the way through.

Jaden is super nice and easy to work with through the entire process. Our family loved our first RV trip to the Yellowstone and grand Teton.

Boots was a wonderful rental van and it was a perfect option for our trip. Jaden was very communicative and helpful with any/all questions we had. Would rent again if our travels bring us out this way!

East Canyon State Park, UT, United States
From Salt Lake City, the park is roughly a 45 to 60 minute drive (about 35 miles) via I-84 east to the Morgan exit, then south on SR-66 along the reservoir. From Park City it is about 30 miles north via SR-65 over Big Mountain Pass, a narrow, steep, twisty route with tight switchbacks that is not recommended for large motorhomes or long trailers, and that closes seasonally in winter. RV drivers should use the I-84 approach through Morgan instead. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), about 40 miles west.
