April, May, and October are ideal for RV travel, offering warm Gulf water, lower humidity, and smaller crowds than peak summer. June through August brings hot, humid weather, afternoon thunderstorms, and the busiest campground demand, so reserve far in advance. Winter months stay mild and quiet, suiting snowbirds who tolerate cooler swim conditions. Shoulder seasons also reduce the chance of rip currents and beach flag restrictions.

The park's main beach features powdery white quartz sand and turquoise Gulf water consistently ranked among the best in the United States. Day-use parking accommodates vehicles with bathhouses, a boardwalk, and direct beach access.
Western Lake is a rare coastal dune lake suitable for kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing. A concessionaire rents paddlecraft on site, and the lake occasionally breaches to the Gulf, creating unique brackish habitat.
The Barrier Dune Nature Trail is a one-mile loop that winds through scrub oak, magnolia, and rolling dunes before reaching the beach. Interpretive signs explain the coastal dune lake ecosystem.
A paved four-mile loop trail connects the campground, Western Lake, and CR-30A's regional Timpoochee Trail. The route is mostly flat and suitable for all skill levels.
A boat ramp on Western Lake provides access for small watercraft and shoreline fishing. Anglers can target redfish, bass, and bream with a valid Florida fishing license.
The historic beach village of Grayton Beach sits just outside the park entrance, offering restaurants, art galleries, and shops within walking or biking distance. It provides a convenient dining option for campers.
The park's mix of salt marsh, dune lake, pine flatwoods, and beach habitat draws shorebirds, ospreys, herons, and migrating songbirds. Spring and fall migrations are particularly productive along the dune trails.

Grayton Beach State Park, FL, United States
The park sits on County Road 30A in South Walton, about 30 minutes east of Destin and roughly 45 minutes west of Panama City Beach via US-98. Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, with Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) also nearby. RVers should note narrow beach-town streets, low-hanging live oak canopies along 30A, and seasonal traffic congestion; larger rigs are better routed via US-98 before turning south to the park entrance. No tunnels or mountain passes apply, but watch for height-restricted parking at some 30A beach accesses.
