Late June through August offers the warmest weather, fully open campground services, and reliable river swimming. Early fall, especially late September into early October, brings cooler nights, lighter crowds, and peak foliage along the West River valley. Spring and fall whitewater release weekends on the West River are popular but can fill sites quickly, so reservations are recommended. The park is closed in winter, so RV travel is limited to the warm season.

Hamilton Falls Trail is a moderate hike of about 2.5 miles each way that follows Cobb Brook to one of the tallest waterfalls in Vermont, dropping roughly 125 feet over carved bedrock. The trail starts from the campground area and gains elevation gradually before steepening near the falls. Swimming and wading at the falls are prohibited due to fatal accidents, but viewpoints from above are spectacular.
The West River Trail is a flat, multi-use path on a former railbed running along the river through the park toward Ball Mountain Dam. It offers easy walking, running, and biking with frequent water views and good chances of spotting birds and beavers. The wide grade is manageable for most fitness levels and works well for families.
Scheduled spring and fall releases from Ball Mountain Dam create one of New England's classic whitewater runs through the park. Experienced kayakers and rafters use the park as a put-in and take-out staging area on release weekends. Spectators can watch from the riverbank near the day-use area.
The West River swimming hole next to the campground is a popular family spot during summer. Calm pools and gravel bars sit within a short walk of the day-use parking area. Conditions change with rainfall and dam releases, so swimmers should check current river levels before getting in.
The West River and feeder streams support trout and warmwater species accessible from the park's banks and trail. Anglers can fish from gravel bars near the campground or hike short distances along the river. A current Vermont fishing license is required.
Cobb Brook tumbles through ledges and pools on its way to the West River, with side paths off the Hamilton Falls route offering quiet picnic spots. The wooded gorge is shaded and cool even in midsummer. Wear sturdy footwear, as rocks near the water are slick.
Vermont State Parks interpreters lead seasonal nature programs at the campground amphitheater and day-use area during the summer. Talks cover local history, wildlife, and the river ecosystem. Schedules are posted at the contact station on arrival.

I recently had the pleasure of staying in Lien's camper van for a music festival in Vermont, and I can't emphasize enough how perfectly it met my needs. My four essential requirements for the stay— a clean environment, a comfortable bed, a bathroom, and quality coffee—were not only satisfied but exceeded in every aspect, transforming my experience into one of sheer comfort and enjoyment. In fact, I enjoyed my stay so much that I’ve already booked for next year's festivities! Lien proved to be an exceptional host, embodying warmth and hospitality throughout my stay. She communicated effectively and was always available to address any questions I had, ensuring I felt welcome and well-informed. Her clear instructions prior to my arrival made the check-in process seamless, and she generously took the time to provide a thorough tutorial on the van's systems, which truly enhanced my experience. Furthermore, Lien went above and beyond by supplying plenty of pillows, blankets, and fresh spring water, which added thoughtful touches to my stay. Her attention to detail made all the difference, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the festival atmosphere without any worries. I wholeheartedly recommend her camper van as the perfect 'home away from home' for solo travelers or couples alike. If you're looking for a convenient, comfortable, and fun place to stay, look no further! You won't be disappointed!

Jamaica State Park, VT, United States
The park is just outside the village of Jamaica on Vermont Route 30/100, about 35 miles northwest of Brattleboro (roughly 50 minutes) and about 90 miles northwest of Manchester, New Hampshire (about 2 hours). Access roads are paved two-lane state highways with several rolling grades and tight village turns through Townshend and Jamaica, so larger Class A coaches and long fifth wheels should drive at reduced speeds. There are no major tunnels or weight-restricted bridges on the main approach, but RVers coming from the west via Stratton Mountain should avoid steep secondary roads and stay on Route 30. The nearest commercial airport for a fly-and-rent trip is Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) in New Hampshire, with Albany International (ALB) and Hartford-Bradley (BDL) as larger alternatives.
