Late June through early October is generally the best window for RV travel in southern Vermont, with warm days, dry trails, and open back roads. Late September into the first week of October brings peak fall foliage and the region's busiest tourism period, so reservations at nearby campgrounds fill early. May and early June are quieter shoulder months but can be wet and buggy. Winters are cold and snowy, and many secondary park roads and rural campgrounds are closed.

These two state highways form a classic southern Vermont touring route linking Chester, Londonderry, and Ludlow. RV-friendly pullouts pass historic villages, country stores, and Green Mountain views.
Windsor County is home to several historic wooden covered bridges within a short drive of the park. Most have nearby gravel turnouts; very large rigs should park in town and walk in.
Okemo State Forest, a short drive north near Ludlow, offers hiking trails through hardwood forest and views toward the Green Mountains. Trailhead lots accommodate small to mid-size RVs.
Both parks are within roughly an hour's drive and provide developed campgrounds suitable for RV travelers. They include drive-in sites, restrooms, and access to the West River.
These southern Vermont rivers offer flatwater paddling and trout fishing in season. Public access points around Chester and Springfield have small parking areas; check turning room before entering with a trailer.
Chester's Stone Village and Main Street historic districts feature 19th-century New England architecture, shops, and cafes. RVs can park along the wide village green or at edge-of-town lots.
I recently had the pleasure of staying in Lien's camper van for a music festival in Vermont, and I can't emphasize enough how perfectly it met my needs. My four essential requirements for the stay— a clean environment, a comfortable bed, a bathroom, and quality coffee—were not only satisfied but exceeded in every aspect, transforming my experience into one of sheer comfort and enjoyment. In fact, I enjoyed my stay so much that I’ve already booked for next year's festivities! Lien proved to be an exceptional host, embodying warmth and hospitality throughout my stay. She communicated effectively and was always available to address any questions I had, ensuring I felt welcome and well-informed. Her clear instructions prior to my arrival made the check-in process seamless, and she generously took the time to provide a thorough tutorial on the van's systems, which truly enhanced my experience. Furthermore, Lien went above and beyond by supplying plenty of pillows, blankets, and fresh spring water, which added thoughtful touches to my stay. Her attention to detail made all the difference, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the festival atmosphere without any worries. I wholeheartedly recommend her camper van as the perfect 'home away from home' for solo travelers or couples alike. If you're looking for a convenient, comfortable, and fun place to stay, look no further! You won't be disappointed!

Muckross State Park, VT, United States
The park is in southern Vermont's Windsor County, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive from Springfield and Chester, about 1 hour 45 minutes from Manchester, New Hampshire, and around 2.5 hours from Boston via I-93 and I-89 or via I-91. RV drivers approaching from the south on I-91 should expect rolling grades and a few sharp exits onto narrow rural state highways such as VT-11 and VT-103, where shoulder width and overhead branches can be tight for taller rigs. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire is the most practical fly-and-rent option, with Burlington International Airport about 2.5 hours north as an alternative. Avoid posted seasonal Class 4 town roads, which are unmaintained and unsuitable for motorhomes and travel trailers.
