Spring, from March through May, offers mild temperatures, wildflowers, and comfortable lake conditions before the summer heat arrives. Fall, from late September through November, is another prime window, with warm days, cooler nights, and lower humidity. Summer brings peak crowds and hot, humid weather, so reservations fill quickly at both developed units. Winter is quieter and generally mild, which suits RV travelers who prefer shoulder-season camping.

The Isle du Bois Unit features a designated swim beach on Ray Roberts Lake with sandy shoreline and day-use picnic areas. RV parking is available at the day-use lots near the beach.
Ray Roberts Lake is known for largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and white bass fishing. Boat ramps at both Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch offer easy water access, and shoreline fishing is possible throughout the park.
The Greenbelt Corridor is a multi-use trail that follows the Elm Fork of the Trinity River between Ray Roberts Lake and Lewisville Lake. Trailheads on FM 455 provide parking for day-use visitors and connect hikers, cyclists, and equestrians to a long linear park.
Isle du Bois offers dedicated equestrian trails through post oak woodland and open prairie. Horse trailer parking is available, and riders bring their own stock.
Kayaks and canoes can launch from shoreline access points on Ray Roberts Lake and from the Greenbelt Corridor along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Calm coves on the lake are well suited to beginner paddlers.
The park lies within the Cross Timbers ecoregion and attracts waterfowl, raptors, and songbirds across its lake, woodland, and prairie habitats. Quiet early mornings from the campgrounds and day-use areas offer the best viewing.
The Johnson Branch Unit on the north shore has short nature trails winding through oak woodland and along the lakeshore. Trailhead parking is near the main campground loops.
Fantastic Trip! Highly Recommend! We just returned from a wonderful camping trip over the holiday, and we truly had a great time in this RV! It was the perfect home base for our family adventure. The RV was clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed for a memorable getaway. We really appreciate how quickly the renter responded to our questions and the overall condition of the unit. This RV provided an excellent experience, and we would absolutely rent from them again! Thank you so much for helping us make some great holiday memories!

The Isle du Bois Unit sits off FM 455 near Pilot Point, roughly an hour drive north of Dallas and about 30 minutes northeast of Denton. The Johnson Branch Unit is reached via FM 3002 off Interstate 35 near Valley View, about an hour and fifteen minutes north of Fort Worth. Routes are largely flat interstate and state highways with no major mountain grades, tunnels, or RV restrictions, though drivers should watch for low limbs on interior campground loops and narrow shoulders on some farm-to-market roads. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is the nearest major fly-and-rent hub, about 60 to 75 miles south of the park.
