Rochon Sands Provincial Park is located 12 kilometres west of Stettler and 80 kilometres northeast of Red Deer, accessed via Highway 12 and secondary Highway 835. From Red Deer, take Highway 11 northeast, then Highway 12 west and Highway 835 north to the park entrance. From Stettler, the drive is approximately 30 kilometres via Highway 12 west and Highway 835 north. The nearest airport is Red Deer Regional Airport, roughly 80 kilometres away.
July and August offer the warmest and most stable weather, with daytime highs averaging 21 degrees Celsius, ideal for water recreation and outdoor activities. June and September are excellent shoulder months with pleasant temperatures near 18 to 19 degrees Celsius. May marks the season opening with spring conditions and lighter crowds as camping begins. The park closes mid-October through early May due to snow and cold conditions.

Rochon Sands Provincial Park features a sandy beach on Buffalo Lake, ideal for swimming and water recreation. The beach is directly adjacent to the campground, providing convenient access for RV campers.
Buffalo Lake offers opportunities for boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, and water skiing. The park includes a boat launch suitable for trailers, accommodating both powered and non-motorized watercraft.
Buffalo Lake supports fishing throughout the summer season with productive shallow bays. The park provides a fish cleaning station at the campground for convenient use.
The park maintains walking and hiking trails through surrounding forest and along the scenic shoreline of Buffalo Lake. Trails offer views of the lake and wildlife viewing opportunities.
Buffalo Lake and surrounding habitats attract numerous bird species including great blue herons, bald eagles, Canada geese, and various waterfowl. The area is recognized as an important birding location in central Alberta.
