Mary and her team were nothing but a pleasure to rent from. They were very timely in their communication, the RV was in great condition, and they took their time to make sure I understood everything before our family departed on our trip. They were even very understanding and flexible with some of the last minute changes we had to make to our reservation. Checking out and returning the RV was super easy. I would definitely rent from them again!

Amazing experience amazing host. Trailer was exactly as described. Everything worked as it should and I have zero complaints. Myself, my girlfriend and our black lab Mable rented this trailer to take it camping up at Owens river to hangout and fish. We got some pretty high winds and rain the first day and some snow the second night. It’s dry camping up there so the generator they supplied was crucial and it worked great. Heater worked great, fridge and freezer get cold very fast and the water pressure and shower were perfect. The whole experience was great from the pick up to drop off and we will definitely be renting from them again!

That is Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park, a winter phenomenon that draws photographers and dreamers when skies stay clear and the fall is running. Arriving in your own RV means a warm kitchen, your own bed, and a flexible base for cold evenings after the walk back from the viewing area. Let the valley cliffs and the Merced River frame a trip you will talk about for years.

How far can I travel from Mammoth Lakes with my RV rental?

From Mammoth Lakes you can easily reach June Lake (about 25 minutes), Mono Lake (about 35 minutes), Bishop (about 45 minutes), and Yosemite Valley via Tioga Pass in roughly 2 to 2.5 hours when the pass is open in summer and fall. Daily mileage allowances vary by listing, with many hosts including 100 to 150 miles per day and some offering unlimited mileage as an option or add-on. Check the listing details or ask your host before booking if you're planning a longer Sierra loop. Tioga Pass (Highway 120) closes seasonally, so confirm conditions before planning a Yosemite route.

Where can I park an RV around Mammoth Lakes?

For RV camping in Mammoth Lakes, popular options include New Shady Rest Campground (forested, walking distance to town), Twin Lakes Campground in the Lakes Basin, and Mammoth Mountain RV Park (full hookups, open year-round). Most Inyo National Forest campgrounds are reservable on Recreation.gov and fill up quickly in summer. Overnight parking on public streets in the Town of Mammoth Lakes is not permitted, so plan to stay at a campground or RV park. Dispersed camping is available in parts of Inyo National Forest on a first-come, first-served basis with rules posted at access points.

When is the best time to visit Mammoth Lakes for an RV trip?

Mammoth Lakes is a year-round RV destination, with summer (late June through early September) offering warm days around 70 to 80°F and cool nights in the 40s, ideal for hiking and lake activities. Fall brings golden aspens and crisp air, while winter is snowy with highs often in the 30s to low 40s°F and frequent sub-freezing nights, so look for an RV equipped with a furnace and insulated tanks. Spring tends to be quieter with lower prices but variable weather and lingering snow at higher elevations. Most Forest Service campgrounds in the area open in late spring and close by mid-October.

Is Mammoth Lakes a good place for a first time renting an RV?

Yes, Mammoth Lakes is a great place for first time renting an RV. Many RVezy hosts offer delivery and setup right at your campground, plus a full walkthrough of how the RV works, so you don't have to drive a large vehicle on mountain roads if you'd prefer not to. Short, scenic drives to June Lake, Convict Lake, or Lake Mary are perfect for getting comfortable behind the wheel. You can message your host any time through RVezy and reach RVezy support if you have questions during your trip.

What happens if I have trouble with my RV during my Mammoth Lakes trip?

Every RVezy booking in Mammoth Lakes includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering issues like flat tires, battery jumps, lockouts, and towing when needed. If something comes up at Twin Lakes, on US-395 near Bishop, or anywhere on your route, you can call the roadside line for help day or night. Your host is also a direct resource for questions about how the RV works, and RVezy support is available if you need extra help. Save the roadside number from your booking confirmation before you head out, as cell service can be spotty in the High Sierra.

Can I take my RV rental from Mammoth Lakes across state lines?

Most RVezy hosts allow travel throughout California and into neighboring states such as Nevada, making trips to Lake Tahoe (roughly 3 hours north) very doable. Always confirm your route with your host before booking, since some listings have specific travel area limits or mileage caps. Travel into Mexico is not permitted under RVezy's insurance coverage. Popular regional routes from Mammoth Lakes include Yosemite, Death Valley, the Eastern Sierra, and Lake Tahoe.

How do I budget for fuel on my Mammoth Lakes RV trip?

Most motorhomes rented in Mammoth Lakes average around 8 to 12 mpg, and travel trailers towed by an SUV or truck see similar real-world numbers. Fuel in Mono County tends to run noticeably higher than the California average, so filling up in Bishop before heading up US-395 usually saves money. Plan your fuel stops in advance because gas stations are limited between Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, and Lee Vining. Checking current California gas prices before your trip helps you build a realistic daily fuel budget.

How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Mammoth Lakes?

For the best campgrounds near Mammoth Lakes, book as early as you can, especially for summer weekends and holidays, with 4 to 6 months ahead being ideal. Inyo National Forest campgrounds like New Shady Rest, Old Shady Rest, and Twin Lakes are reserved through Recreation.gov and typically open reservations six months in advance on a rolling window. Cancellations do happen, so checking Recreation.gov a few days before your trip can sometimes uncover last-minute openings. Dispersed camping in Inyo National Forest generally doesn't require reservations and is a good backup for flexible trips.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232016

What should I know about driving in and around Mammoth Lakes with an RV?

Driving an RV around Mammoth Lakes means scenic mountain roads with elevations above 7,000 feet, so plan for slower speeds, longer braking distances, and frequent pullouts to enjoy the view. US-395 is the main route in and out of town, and winter conditions can bring tire chain requirements, so check Caltrans QuickMap before traveling. Sherwin Grade south of town is steep but well-graded and manageable in most RVs. Downtown parking for larger rigs is limited, so plan to park at your campground, the Village day lots when permitted, or have the RV delivered directly to your site.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

What amenities can I expect at Mammoth Lakes area campgrounds?

Private RV parks near Mammoth Lakes, such as Mammoth Mountain RV Park, typically offer full hookups (water, sewer, electric), showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and a dump station. Inyo National Forest campgrounds like New Shady Rest and Twin Lakes generally have potable water, vault or flush toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings, but no hookups, so plan to use your RV's tanks. The Town of Mammoth Lakes operates a public RV dump and water fill station that is available seasonally for a small fee. Confirm hookups and dump access at each campground before booking so you can plan tank usage accordingly.

How does payment and the security deposit work with RVezy in Mammoth Lakes?

When you book an RV rental in Mammoth Lakes through RVezy, payment is processed securely through the RVezy platform rather than directly with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your rental payment and is released after your trip once the RV is returned in the agreed condition. To help your deposit be returned quickly, return the RV on time, cleaned as outlined in the listing, and with the agreed fuel and tank levels. Full details about the deposit and payment timing are available in the RVezy Help Center.
