Campgrounds and RV parks near Big Lakes County, AB

Big Lakes County sits on the northwest shore of Lesser Slave Lake in northern Alberta, with the town of High Prairie as its main service hub. The area is built around water: Lesser Slave Lake is one of the largest lakes in Alberta and supports northern pike, lake whitefish, walleye, and yellow perch, and Winagami Lake sits a short drive north. RV travelers have a mix of provincial park campgrounds and privately operated lakeside resorts to choose from. Hilliards Bay Provincial Park anchors the provincial-park offering on the lake's northwest shore, about a 35-minute drive from High Prairie. Shaws Point Lakeside Resort and Spruce Point Park Campground and Marina are private operations on Lesser Slave Lake aimed at families and anglers. Winagami Lake Provincial Park provides a smaller, quieter alternative inland north of High Prairie, and Four Seasons Wilderness Campground gives access to the Swan Hills region south of the lake. High Prairie supplies groceries, fuel, propane, and basic services, which makes it a practical staging point before heading to a site.

Provincial-park campgrounds in the area, including Hilliards Bay Provincial Park and Winagami Lake Provincial Park, are reserved through the Alberta Parks reservation system at reserve.albertaparks.ca. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance of the arrival date, and popular waterfront loops at Hilliards Bay can clear out within minutes of the booking window opening for July and August weekends. Shaws Point Lakeside Resort, Spruce Point Park Campground and Marina, and Four Seasons Wilderness Campground are booked directly through each operator's own website or by phone, not through Alberta Parks. For all properties, set a calendar reminder for the 90-day mark, have a backup site number ready, and book powered sites first since they sell out before unserviced loops.
