Sturgeon Lake is the centre of activity. Anglers target walleye, northern pike, perch, burbot, and whitefish in Sturgeon Lake. Williamson Provincial Park has a boat launch, washrooms, and a playground, with activities including swimming, birdwatching, fishing, boating, canoeing, and camping. Around Waskahigan, the Iosegun River offers kayaking and canoeing, fishing for Arctic grayling, walleye, mountain whitefish and pike, and informal trails wind through the surrounding landscape.

The camping window in this part of Alberta is short. Early-season visitors should be aware that, due to below average seasonal temperatures, potable water is sometimes not available and non-potable water from campground taps should only be used to put out fires, so plan to bring your own water. Winter visitors come for ice fishing and cross-country skiing rather than serviced camping.

Expect boreal forest sites with mixed-wood cover, gravel pads, and variable cell coverage. Williamson's campground has 67 sites, 31 of which include the option for electrical hookups, and amenities include multiple water collection points, showers, toilet blocks, firewood and easy access to the beach, plus a dump station, and the campground is pet friendly. Young's Point has over 100 powered and un-serviced campsites, with firewood, water, showers, and sewage disposal available seasonally. Waskahigan is more rustic: it is a riverside campground on the edge of a mixed boreal forest, with a picnic shelter, firepits and pit/vault toilets. Shaws Point Lakeside Resort is a large private operation on Sturgeon Lake with marina slips and boat launches. Bears, moose, and deer move through these areas, so use bear-safe food storage and review park advisories before arrival.
